Hello Good People,
Just got Mojave installed on my MacBook Pro.8.3

Did anyone have any success with getting the Map.app to work. When I open mine the screen appears black.

Any newer tips for dimmer the screen?

Did something significant change between b8 and b10? Yesterday, when I tried b8 on an iMac 11,2 (core i3, 8 GB, 250 GB SSD, HD 5670), it KPed after applying the video patch. Today, I tried beta 10 and two odd things happened.
1. I went to get a cup of coffee while waiting for the install to the cleanly erased SSD to complete and when I got back, the 11,2 had rebooted automatically and was at the full setup screen for MacOS BEFORE I had applied the post-install!!!! The video was a little glitchy, but I could setup and sign in no problem.
2. I then rebooted from the b10 installer and ran the post-install with the legacy video patch and the iMac is now booted and the HD5670 video seems to be at least partially accelerated-I am watching MacBreak Weekly while I type this and no video problems at all.
Nice job guys.

Update: Maps displays a black screen with blue location dot and the +/- buttons are glitchy flashing black/white, so some acceleration is missing, but the Mac is usable for email, browsing, etc.
Update2: Facetime/iSight camera is working as well

Apple Maps and Photos both need a metal capable GPU to fully work. Your MacBookPro8,3 has no such GPU and cannot be upgraded, too.

Even worse, it has a AMD Radeon HD 6770M, which is listed as unsupported GPU for OpenGL acceleration with Mojave and Catalina. You may try to disable the 6770M. Search the net how to achieve this. And check the first post on the first page of this thread for a "support" list and some details about (missing) features.

Funny enough I was looking to see how that Map.app looked. And just think how my world was interrupted a couple months ago having gone from my trusted Snow Leopard setup to Lion, than a week later to Maverick where everything worked until one day the copy paste bug arrived and forced my hand after a few days. Mojave had the dark mode and I really wanted to give it a go. I will give this Mojave a go and see if its worth it for my computing needs.

Are you getting any specific error message on the App Store?

Resetting PRAM is very safe and won't create problems with your internal SSD. But before you try that I would try to explicitly log out of the App Store and log out of iCloud, etc.

I've had some odd App Store errors here and there, and usually signing out and back in fixes things for me.

No, the Mac App Store does not show any specific error message, it shows the download circle that rotates but does not download, perhaps in the multiple console error messages or in some plist the reason for the failure to download is reported?

But does resetting the PRAM not reactivate SIP? The user @McZobel does not specify whether SIP is disabled / enabled before and after the PRAM reset. On my Mac mini Late 2009, on an external HD, I also installed macOS Sierra (Patched) first and then updated it to macOS High Sierra (Patched) and therefore I must have SIP disabled, but also with Mojave (Patched) it is always required disabled SIP?

Anyway, as a workaround, I have successfully tried this one that I recently found (and which I think is about a Mac mini supported by Mojave) and which allowed me to download the apps I already purchased:

While running App Store go to Activity Monitor app and force kill appstoreagent process.
Starting download/update again everythig works as expected, but until quit App Store, then problem apear again.

But I continue my research to find a definitive solution.

Had the same problem the other day, trying to update Whatsapp desktop version - endless spinning thing, no error message. I found the same solution - kill appstoreagent - and it then worked.

I don't think resetting PRAM/NVRAM reactivates SIP, at least it doesn't for me. Not sure if the SIP Patch (post-install) has anything to do with it.

Excellent find about downloading from the app store. I was having the same issue with the spinning animation but the app would never download. Force quitting the appstoreagent worked and I was finally able to download from the appstore.

I want to use macOS Extractor v1.45 to install Mojave on an old 2008 white plastic Macbook and some 2007 MacPros at my university. However, I seem to fail at almost the very first hurdle. The webinstaller tells me

The installation failed.

There was an error obtaining data from file "https://dl.osxhackers.net/OSXH/Resources/macOS%Extractor.pkg,"which is needed to install the software. Check your internet connection and try again, or contact the software manufacturer for assistance.

I can go directly to the url (without the comma) noted in the error, and download the first package file the webinstaller wants to use, but I don't know what steps the webinstaller would run after running macOS Extractor.pkg.

Has anyone come across this? Would anyone know how to fix it?

Sorry, I meant to ask about the SIP Disabler Patch. That, surely, makes sure SIP is disabled - as per the conventional wisdom for running unsupported machines. But I don't know how it works or what it actually does or when it does it.

Mine's disabled:

System Integrity Protection status: disabled.

cMP2,1, late '07 may not run on Mojave. MB s/b ok. better if formatted APFS and install is made with @dosdude1 Mojave patcher v.1.3.7 USB from here: http://dosdude1.com/mojave/

Mac Pro 3.1 here running Lion, El Capitan, Sierra, High Sierra, Mojave and Catalina, APFS ROM patch installed no problems whatsoever ever.
Be brave little soldier.

Mine about the same with Snow Leopard and Mavericks, instead of HS and Catalina. But have run all the way up to Big Slurp. Don't need any OS that is 64bit exclusive, but tried them saw nothing really exciting, so I dumped them. But my main, I have several trying to fix the issues and get a good install, Mōjāv 10.14.6 Partition using SilentKnight is showing the FW is out of date how do I fix that. I do have several visible EFI Partitions in the Boot Manager. And as above ran the OSs and ROM patches that make all kinds of wonderful things happen. Some not so wonderful . . .

I have been trying anything and everything in anyway using DD1s 1.3.7 Patcher and all has been great. Now my biggest problem is the Mōjāv 2020-005-6/Safari install mess has made my machine a huge problem. After and trying to do everything everyone has suggested my machine is a mess to fix the install mess, including Mr Mac. I started having severe problems with Outlook 2011. One indicator that I still have the "Apple Issues" is I can not create additional Users. Which using a second user to try Outlook is an indicator for the problems I am having with Office 2011. Well can't make another user.

So back to square 18G103 (over the top of my current "better" install) from 18G8022;
Then SecUpd2020-007;
Then Secupd2021-001 and 002 and see what happens with Office. Only because I have been using it since the turn of the century.
But I need to move to a new WD Black in d0s2 to be my main OS from here out. Only, I can't install Office on the new drive in a new slot. This is something new since Office 2011. I own 3 copies. They won't install. So . . . into the 🔥

Than I had an idea to install a fresh version of Mojave on an external USB drive, and guess what!

Maps are working, no more black screen!
I took it a step farther and installed Mojave on an external SSD drive and the same success.
Not only does the Map.app work but also the screen dimming buttons.

Does this mean we have a extension limitation and not so much a hardware limit in this case?

So the the Map.app and dimming buttons work when installing Mojave on an external HD on these two MacBook Pro models
MacBook Pro 8,3
MacBook Po 6,1

When in Dark Mode I am also successfully seeing the Transparency effect.
VLC.app works and plays .mp4 and .avi files with no issues.

Could this mean someone with more knowledge could fashion an extension or something to get the Map.app working along with the screen dimming when using an internal drive?

Sounds like a flawed install on the internal drive. You can re-install Mojave over the existing potentially flawed internal drive install, safely. The installer in use produces good installs on the ext. drives, so it's proven. 😎

You own a metal GPU and you definitely need no legacy video patch.
Only one TB port works with this card and external displays and about special patches for the iMac 2011 you used the wrong thread. Check the first link in my signature.
You most likely want/need to reinstall Mojave to get rid of the legacy video patch.

Check out the link I already mentioned. There you will find a way to do it.

Reinstalling the macOS keeps all private data and all personal settings (network, password, etc.).

It is the most easy way to get a clean macOS installation tested by Apple a million times in test farms.

Why should one want to start manually messing with kernel extensions?

UPDATE: Was able to reinstall these patches and everything seems to be working but not the Screen Dimming buttons.
