I've never seen a full System Upgrade appear in the Update section which is for macOS app updates and system point updates.
Saw the same while updating a 13,2 iMac. I asked Gemini wassup wif dat? Here's the reply:

Apple has indeed changed the "Software Update" behavior in late 2025. With the release of macOS 26 Tahoe, the interface has become much more aggressive. The "nagging" isn't just a design flaw; Apple now "stages" the Tahoe upgrade files in the background even if you only click the "More Info" link for Sequoia updates.

I got the suggestion to run this in Terminal. I do not know if it will help (as with so much AI assistance) or whether it can harm, but here is what it offered:
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate MajorOSUpdateNotification -bool FALSE

Additionally it gave commands to see if updates had already been downloaded and staged. None of this should be necessary. It is Apple acting like the Borg: "You will be assimilated (to Tahoe)." The pre-selected checkbox for Tahoe in the additional updates available window is really a bit much.

Thanks for the feedback. I think that command just stops or at one time just stopped the notifications. Just going to have keep an eye on things more. Cheers.

I think surely the best option with software update is just leaving it on Sequoia beta? I mean my MacBook doesn't see Tahoe as an option ?

Hello all, quick question. The last time I updated was sometime in May 2025 on 2.4.0…I noticed there’s another update to 15.7.2 and I updated to 2.4.1 to prepare for the download. I started the update , OCLP opened then closed down. Is that supposed to happen? I’m used to updating and then OCLP with a pop up message stating “you’re updating would you like OCLP to update metal libs”? Or something like that…I have an 11,4 2015 MacBook Pro
Any help or ideas on this?

Hoping someone could help me out. I have a iMac 27" Mid 2011 on High Sierra. I installed OCLP 2.4.1 and installed Seqouia to the main drive from the USB installer. After installing it boots up to the Mac OS Installer and it looks like a login screen. I see my icon and user name, I can move the mouse, but there is nowhere to enter a password or continue past this point. How can I fix this and advanced past this screen to finish the install? Appreciate the help!

Have you tried shutting down, then restarting and pressing the option key before the "bong" sounds? It should bring up the EFI boot option, click it and then select the boot drive as normal.

Whats the hardware setup look like? Pre 2011 you likely need to use wired usb keyboard/mouse to get past that point

Hey guys, thought I would let everyone know that I'm starting to address my unsupported hardware situation. Starting the year off with a new iPad Air 13" M3 through Verizon, so I have Cellular, as well as WiFi. I prefer desktops for serious work, but for daily tasks like email, and watching / reading, etc I decided to go with the iPad as it can be a laptop, or tablet which is what I like for a mobile device, and it's much closer to a desktop experience over an iPhone.

They also had the M5 Pro, but for now, it would have cost too much for what I actually do on a daily basis. So I thought this would be a good balance between a computer, and tablet upgrade in one purchase. I'm still hopeful Apple will bring a larger iMac to the Apple Silicon line up, at which time I may do that upgrade. However, looking at this objectively, the more important things would be for security for sensitive tasks like banking, and practical such as having an up to date device. Plus with the way Apple is changing macOS, I'd much rather have those changes on a table / laptop hybrid vs a desktop because it makes more sense for how I use my computer(s), and what I expect from each device.

So, it turns out the issue is because of FileVault enabled on the drive. With it on, FileVault introduces a pre-WindowServer boot stage where the graphics wont load and get stuck. So, I ran the OS install again but with Sonoma because apparently Sonoma still has some drivers that support iMac 2011 and I was able to enter the FileVault password here to continue the installation. After install, I turned off FileVault, then I ran the Seqouia installer. It skips that boot stage and actually completes the install so I can get in and run root patches. Now have working Seqouia and didn't lose anything but was quite the workaround.

Is there any chance that this OCLP-related issue with Homebrew will be fixed…?

For example, on OCLP’d Macs, it prevents app updates through Homebrew to succeed (with a Swift runtime error): tried this in Updatest (currently, the best successor to the discontinued MacUpdater), with success on Apple Silicon but failure on Intel + OCLP. Homebrew is also quite slow, with OCLP (but that’s of course the lesser problem)…

Changing Shell from bash to zsh will not save.
I have been running bash and not zsh in the terminal using Ventura through to Sequoia using OCLP/OC. I wanted to test something in zsh but when running chsh -s /bin/zsh it will not change. The tile bar remains as bash as does the bash prompt. It also does not change by modifying the shell change via the GUI.

When using echo $SHELL after the change it returns this /bin/zsh - even as it remains in bash after restarting the terminal

I have exited the terminal - quit the terminal - restarted and still no change.

Is there a hidden attribute which needs editing in a plist somewhere? I checked in /Users/Shared/.com.dortania.opencore-legacy-patcher.plist but didn't see anything.

Can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks

Out of curiosity, what are your default login settings in terminal preferences?

Thank you - Shell set to Command (complete path) :/bin/bash
Toggled to Default login shell then chsh -s /bin/zsh now it is saved.

FYI Sequoia 15.7.4 RC2 (24G508) became available today OTA and is running fine here on a supported MM8,1

I don't recall exactly how big of a delta it was, I believe > 2GB. The previous, RC1, build number was 24G503, so plus 5 builds.

Will try it on an unsupported rMBP10,1 tomorrow.

rMBP10,1 2012 updated from Sequoia 15.7.4 RC1 to RC2 (24G508) + OCLP 2.4.1

The OTA "Restart Now" phase hung, forced a restart which came up still on the older version. Got a notification from macOS with the option to update! Never seen that before. So I took it and it restarted and updated, OCLP auto-prompted to reapply root patches, AOK, restarted fine. So far, so good.

Hey all, I was curious about something that I might try. What would be a good USB WiFi adapter be for macOS? The problem isn't the built in adapter, it works fine. The limitation is, VMs can't use location services from the built in WiFi adapter, so I would need to get a USB one that I could connect directly to my Sonoma VM as a USB device, so it would be available in that environment directly.

Ugreen USB WiFi Adapter AC1300
D‑Link AC1300 Wi‑Fi 5 USB Adapter
TP‑Link Archer T3U Plus Adapter

Check for MacOS drivers first. You might want to consider Ethernet to Wifi solution using a repeater/extender if you only look for a desktop solution.

Well, even as the host, I don't use WiFi for anything but location services, I use Ethernet for the actual connection to the network / internet. So as long as the adapter can detect networks around me, and report location to the VM, I will be good. So the VM would be the same as the host, wired connection for internet / network. WiFi for location only.
