macOS 15 Sequoia on Unsupported Macs Thread

Hi all,
Now all of a sudden, I cannot connect my iPhone6 to my iMacs anymore. The iMac doesn't see the iphone at all and doesn't charge it either when plugged in. Started with different cables and an official apple cable. I've done all reboots and resets as described on line. I've tried re-installing the post install root patch as well and the NVRAM/PRAM resets.

Anyone else got an idea what's going on? Help!?
 
Hey all, this isn't so much an unsupported Mac question as it is a newer macOS version than Monterey question. As You know, I put Sonoma in a VM, and it functions as needed, and expected. However, I have the pre subscription versions of Keynote, Pages, and Numbers. I have an open source program called "Latest" on both installs of macOS as it's a nice way to see all my apps at once, and which have updates at a glance. It shows Keynote having an update, but when I go to the app store, the button that would normally say Update, says Get, and it lists that it has in app purchases. So for those of use who have existing versions of the apps before Apple went subscription, how do we continue to install updates? Under Monterey, the updates are done, but Sonoma still shows them. This is something someone with a supported install would probably also have to deal with, so it's not specific to unsupported installs, and in my case, a VM is a supported install since it's in Fusion and running on a physical Mac.

Apple just updated those iWork apps - Keynote, Pages, and Numbers as well as iMovie. I saw the update notifications in App Store on my Sequoia install on my external drive and they updated without a problem (bug fixes).

I was thinking it should be the same here, and Sonoma should be supported. However, it treated the update as a different app instead of the typical update.

Edit: I got it, I went in through my purchases instead of through searching for the apps, and got the normal Update button. Apps are updating now.

There is an update for the older version of Keynote, Pages, and Numbers to 14.5. That is supposedly the last version of those apps. The Creator versions are different apps and are loaded separately according to the notifications that came up when I updated to 14.5. The newer versions are supposedly free to use with in app purchase/subscription for additional features. You need the 14.5 version to properly upgrade some saved files to the new version it seems.

For now I don't plan on loading the new versions. Depending on how things play out and what features are in app purchase/subscription I may just switch to some open source alternatives or just pay for something different at some point. I loathe subscriptions on apps like the plague.

Apple is slowly chipping away at all the reasons I prefer them to the alternatives.

… FYI, updating to OCLP 2.5.0 (nightly), on the MBP11,3, fixed the Microsoft Teams crash (but not for Motion and MainStage, which still crash). BTW, a strange glitch (also present before, with 2.4.1) is that if I build and install OpenCore, on my MBP11,3 with FileVault, with the default “Host Model” selected in the Settings, then on reboot it gives me a double login prompt; while if I select the exact model in the Settings, before building and installing OpenCore, then the MBP11,3 correctly requires only the initial login prompt: quite strange, indeed. Another glitch is that Startup Disk and Disk Utility now always require my password in order to be unlocked (was so also with 2.4.1), while previously it wasn’t needed (and shouldn’t be needed); and, finally, there is also this one (the root patches aren’t reported as already installed even if they are, and the root volume is seen as dirty):

Some quite strange glitches, in a few words (and I already reset NVRAM and SMC)…

… As for the new Apple Creator Studio, it’s also important to realize that its new Logic Pro and MainStage apps are Apple Silicon-only (M1+); while Pixelmator Pro requires macOS 26 Tahoe: so, on old Macs with Sequoia, if wanted one can install the Creator Studio versions of all apps, except those 3 (which must be of the previous kind, Universal and compatible with Sequoia).

I also use those funny looking inter dental pokey things for cleaning iPhone ports and other random tech cleaning. There are metal ones good for cleaning sticky dust off of fan blades, and the soft plastic type are great for iPhone ports.

I hadn't thought of those! Interesting idea. (Different sellers call them different things, like dental soft-picks, floss-picks, or brush-picks.)

I've now tried plugging the iPad into this machine (2015 iMac 27"15,1 Retina 32GB Sequoia15.7.3–OCLP2.4.1) and again, there's NO connection.
iPad and iPhones connect to all other Macs (see siganture, all running OCLP)
Only this machine won't take any USB connection from devices (including a WARCOM drawing tablet).
Has no issue with memory cards or USB Portable SSD.
Surely my USB ports aren't "fried" ?

I've noticed also that when he iPhone is left plugged in during a reboot cycle, it starts to charge but once the apple logo and progress bar under it appears, it stops charging.

Tried reinstalling OCLP 2.4.1 and rerunning all root patches, still no joy.
Should I update to OCLP 2.5.0 nightly?

Hello, it is possible to install an another OS, create a new volume with disk utility and choose this partition when you instal a new OS. To choose at boot, hold the option key.

Before you start any troubleshooting: check your system report for USB devices connected to the machine.

What makes you so certain it’s a software issue?

Guys, I want to say good bye. I eventually got a basic version MacMini M4. What a relief! My MBP 2012 is still a formidable coding laptop and serves as hub for all USB A connections. Both machines are connected through direct ethernet/wifi. Screen-sharing does the rest. This is the end for that machine.

Thanks to the developers that made this journey possible! All the best and thanks for your suggestions throughout the years. See you in other threads. 😉

Stop in once in awhile. You still have a few unsupported Macs. I also have an M4 mini, 26.2 suxs. 🥱

To those that leave us behind we will see you here when your new Mac becomes unsupported lol (joking enjoy the new tech .)
Did the latest 15.7.4 update all fine but is that it now? How many “15.7.4” updates are there before release? on a sad note my MacBook power supply has just died RIP 2014-2026 but my mid 2014 still strong I logged back into Big Sur and it became more obvious that I’m happy with my Mac just if it wasn’t for OCLP I may have had to give it up earlier as half the apps I use now don’t work anymore in Big Sur .

Same here. I’ll run this Mac Pro 5,1 until it finally gives up. Pro Tools Studio is still knocking out great tracks on these old Macs because the system is rock solid.


Funny thing is, Avid’s Carbon interface still has issues. For that kind of money, those problems should’ve been sorted out a long time ago.


Meanwhile, my Digi 003 with the Black Lion Audio mod has been absolutely solid for over a decade. Zero drama.

I have a 2015 27" imac (17.1) running Sequoia 15.7.3 using OCLP 2.4.1. All is working very well except connecting my iphone ios 26.2.1.
'System Report' shows it as connected to the USB but the finder (and apps like Photos do not see it.
I reverted the OCLP 'root patches' and, although the whole interface was extremely sluggish, the iphone connected, I was asked to trust the computer, and I could fire my mass of images into Photos.
I then reinstalled the root patches and the phone did not ask for trust and it is not seen again.
I have used many cables all directly attached to the imac and have tried unplugging and plugging in multiple times.
I have reset the 'Locations and Privacy' on the phone.
It seems that one (or more) of the root patches impedes the usual handshaking of the iMac and phone.
Does anyone know which one and can it be stopped from installing? Would this cause more problems than it would solve?
