Good morning from Greece.
Same hear, I searched for similar cases in Catalina and tried the Disk Repair Tool using Command + R with no success.
My download was half way through before stopping and ever since I'm keep receiving this message.

I didn't even attempt to do any updates and this has caused my Mac Pro to run GLACIALLY slow.

I rebooted and every app took several minutes to just load.

As soon as I unplug my ethernet cable, everything launches and works at normal speed.

Plug the ethernet back in and BAM, the whole machine is incredibly slow.

I even see the seconds on my system clock freeze for a few seconds.

This is tanking machines that aren't even trying to run an update.

I will say that this happened to me too and I was able to "process of elimination" my way to the antivirus software I was running. As soon as I got into CleanMyMac X and uninstalled it there everything was smooth as butter.

Still getting the error message when trying to install though.

my guess is it's a certificate verification issue with apple servers. like the app launching issue, installers are all downloaded but can't be verified. or something.
Exactly. The certificate status server (ocsp.apple.com) is down. Applications will eventually launch after 30 seconds or so when the connection times out.

Honestly apple software has gone to complete **** over the years. I don't get why people are tolerating this, no other giant tech is like this. Google, microsoft, amazon etc....
LOL! Google literally releases software still in beta all the time.

What a shame.

I just waked my BRAND NEW MBP 16 and discovered that none of my apps is willing to launch! My BT mouse is not responding and OS is slow as a snail 😂
Fortunately, I'm an IT guy and get the idea that BigSur update is somehow involved. In another case - I would consider that my SSD is dying.

Slow OS fix - just turned off any auto-update option in the system. Worked for me.

Not that I don't agree with you on Apple software distribution not being great recently. But this did make me laugh, have you ever owned Windows? lol

There is no evidence at this time, that shows that Apple is at fault. Save the Apple roasting for when you have facts on your side.
If it doesn't work. Its Apple's fault. If it was just one person, then fine. If it's literally every other person its a significant issue.
