Hackintosh users will steal it and that will cause issues for you with iMessage, Facetime, etc... that are tied to hardware.
This is absolutely false. There is no reason to edit your serial on a genuine Apple. Only Hackintoshers need to edit out their serial number. A hackintosh needs an unused serial number. They don't take the serial from genuine Apple computers. I am not sure how this rumor ever got started.

I'm sorry, but everyone on this forum that says that Apple is trash or stupid is just stupid themselves. Thousands of people are trying to download the 12GB Update, so of course the Apple servers are crashing. One must be very stupid to think that they have the capacity for every single user to download the Update at launch simultaneously. Just wait a few days, the issues will be either fixed by Apple directly or there won't even be need for that since traffic cools down and the servers will work just fine again.
I am using MacOS since Yosemite, and since then it always worked fine, never crashed and never lagged. Just be patient and stop being so stupid and giving Apple bad credit just for your inability to wait a bit...gosh
The problem is, many Apple services are also failing. No one seems to be able to get Big Sur, Apple Pay supposedly has problems, and developer downloads have been pulled.

So, while you certainly have a positive outlook, the fact is, Apple is effed up right now. It is NOT demand Big Sur causing it.

If you completed the download it still won't install. Those that haven't it seems to work. I have two machines and one is going the other with the completed download gives an error.

Well, unless I'm reading it wrong you can see it pull from Akamai CDN in the logs, at least in some capacity...

"TCP_DENIED from a62-252-168-238.deploy.akamaitechnologies.com (AkamaiGHost/10.2.0.2-31441410) (-)";
Interesting. This is returned as part of the response headers from the Apple server. So maybe the Apple servers use Akamai as upstream?

I know I fell for it.

Again wondering if someone knows where the installer is stored...I can't find it. It used to be in Applications, but its not there and I can't find it in Alfred searching "macOS Big Sur" or any other installer name for that matter
I found it in my Bar/Doc. I downloaded it from the Apple App app. I tried installing it with the install button on the Preferences Panel and got error messages like everyone is reporting here. I went looking for the download everywhere, couldn’t find it. Planned to try tomorrow. Then I noticed the Big Sur Installer in my Bar/Doc. I ran it and the install went great. I’m now running it, and not terribly pleased so far. Things are pale, some Apps don’t work yet. It’s a mixed bag. Be careful what you wish for 🧐

Okay never mind. swcdn.apple.com resolves to an Akamai IP address. So you might be absolutely right.

Did you get fired every time you made a mistake?
No, and it’s not about that. This is an American company where people are very poorly protected by employment laws, compared to Europe for example. This is not a bug in a piece of software, this is what you’d call the mother of all major incidents, and trust me, after one like this, people get very uncomfortable phone calls. They had to pull iOS and TVOS updates, had to restore iMessage and Apple Card. It’s a big one. In 7 years I have not had issues with any updates or seen this level of an outage.

I found these lines in my system.log.

trying to reason with apple fanboy...

Same issue in Italy. Until yesterday I had installed Big Sur Beta and today I restored Catalina from apple recovery for new final update. After installation from recovery apple I found Mojave and not Catalina. Today Apple not good.

Hackintosh users steal things by definition, maybe that's how?

Yep, seems that Akamai is a (if not the) culprit in this inability to install Big Sur.

I have the same issue. *insert the same screenshot here. But it is kinda interesting, that some Big Sur optimized applications appeard as updated in my Appstore, like Keynote and the others... Something is happening now, maybe?

Apple this morning released macOS Big Sur to the public, and since the software went live, it has had extremely long download times that have prevented many from being able to install it.

macos-software-update-issue.jpg

Even those who have made progress through the download have run into problems where the software downloading process is suddenly interrupted and must be restarted. Others have reported being able to download the update and then having the installation fail. Apple's site appears to be having some major issues due to the number of people attempting to download the update at once.

In addition to these Big Sur download problems, Apple's developer site is also down at this time, and as a result, some third-party apps are unable to be opened up at this time.

An error occurred while installing the selected updates

It's not clear what's causing the problem. It could be that the macOS Big Sur downloads are failing due to a developer site issue or the developer site could be failing under the strain of macOS Big Sur demand, but it is clear that those hoping to get the new software should hold off until things are more stable.

Apple's System Status page is listing an issue with macOS Software Updates and says that the problem is "currently being investigated."

So do I have to delete a download cache somewhere and start over once this is all fixed? Mine has shown that since 10:30 this morning.
