Well I am in the UK and am listening to Tougher than the Rest by Bruce Springsteen, and it seems to be downloading for me at the moment...

Downloaded the twitter link and set it aside; I'll check the MD5 of it later.

Enabled VPN to the land down under, and it started; says I have about 6 hours remaining (300 mb connection)

Was so excited to download with my gigabit connection.... here I am routing it through Australia

It's suddenly downloading fine on all 3 of my Macs here in the UK - no VPN or clearing caches - I just clicked the button again - expecting the same error - and it's downloading :)
Same downloading really fast in UK now full 350mbps ISP speed.

Spoke too soon, it is still downloading in UK but slower speeds. About 1 MB/s.

Tried to re-download using no VPN (in Belgium), didn't work. Switched on my VPN to a Belgian server, and now it started re-downloading somewhere it had dropped previously. Let's see how this ends...

Install is complete.

Even after finishing complete download I was facing An error occurred while installing the selected updates. error.
Executing following command fixed it for me.
sudo softwareupdate --reset-ignored

PS: Didn't use any VPN

Finally...someone giving extra info thanks. Mine was stuck being unable to install and guarantee that is because it didn't fully complete the download - even though the system said it did.

I ran that command, clicked update (No VPN and I'm in UK) and it has started straight up from 3GB download. This proves that it had only downloaded that much before. I'm confident that if this completes it will now install but I will updated.

It says it will take 22 minutes to complete and is flying through the download.

Guessing that sudo command only works if you're in the middle of the download. Didn't work for me but my 12.18GB downloaded hours ago, just haven't been able to actually install.

My machine can no longer run any 3rd party programs after a restart after several installation failed notices during download.
I had the exact same thing occur. All Apple apps opened with no problems but every single 3rd party app would just bounce in the dock and never open. It continued for over an hour. WTF?!
