An ARM version of Windows won't really be as valuable as you might think it is.

I should've clarified. If I install macOS Big Sur on my Intel-based Mac, will I be able to use Apple's built-in virtualization software to install Windows?

Or, is the virtualization software strictly for running ARM-based software?

Just shy the 20 years Jobs promised.

Yup! SJ...man, what a visionary....

Ugh. The iOSification of MacOS is complete.

Also, strange that they didn't share any benchmarks comparing their chip with Intel chips.
Yeah, I was disappointed to see the 'look' of where macOS is headed. I get the desire to unify the aesthetic of all apple OSes but...man. Feels like the soul of the mac is slowly draining. I don't want to stare at a giant ipad when using my mac!

That's an interesting question, but I think my answer probably doesn't really change. VMware Fusion and the non-App Store Parallels Desktop use their own virtualization technologies which should continue to work, with updates, and the App Store Parallels should also work to run Intel software.

Agreed, definitely looking at a Razer Blade Stealth 13 + Arch Linux for my new machine.

With Catalina still being the new MacOS "Vista" I cannot not feel excited about a new MacOS version without addressing Catalina's problems first.
Lots of iGag features but I bet you still can't resume a failed file transfer of multiple files in the Finder.
Actually, I think we now have a reasonable explanation for the smelly mess that is Catalina: Apple has had all their A-team on Big Sur for the past 2 years. I'm super excited!

Yup. That was my 1st thought too....They resisted and they resisted but ultimately, the iOS pull was just too much. Apple just had a hard time keeping iOS and macOS separated. Now, with the internal silicon all being merged, I guess Apple finally decided now was a good time as any to complete to iOS-ification of macOS. If the internal is the same, why not make the external design language the same too?

Look at that light grey text on the left as well as the top menu; trying to focus even momentarily on the faint, wispy text hurts my eyes and gives me headache strain. I cringe more and more with each increase in minimalism in the iOS/OS since iOS7.

Nobody else feels pain/discomfort with such fragile, translucent interface aspects?

Praying that “reduce translucency” and “increase contrast” remain as options going forward.

Because they don't want to spoil talking about A14 yet? .. will give better benchs compared to giving today A12Z benchs.

So my late 2013 MacBook Pro is now the oldest supported MacBook Pro. Looks like this will be the last update which still supports it - my Mac mini has been stranded in High Sierra for a couple of years now but it is a mid 2011 - so a new MacBook Pro may be on the shopping list next year leaving the quandary of intel or ARM. I guess by then we’ll have some better idea of the differences in price and performance across the ranges.

Does anybody know what Macs are supported?

My iMac isn't supported, I'm pissed. Here are the Macs that are supported:

MacBook
2015 and later

MacBook Air
2013 and later

MacBook Pro
Late 2013 and later

Mac mini
2014 and later

iMac
2014 and later

iMac Pro
2017 and later
(all models)

Mac Pro
2013 and later

I'm amazed that my late 2012 mac mini with quad core i7 isn't supported but a dual core mac mini from 2014 is, the only reason I can imagine this to be the case is the graphics. But how big of a graphics jump could it have been.

yes office is supported since day one for arm I’m a beta tester on fast ring and it works all ready!!! Anyway let us know when dev profile for Mac OS gets uploaded thx
