macOS Golden Gate 27.0 Beta 1 - What's New?

Often, when people post about WiFi or network access, it turns out they were using third party tools to block access, such as Little Snitch, which are so embedded in the OS that they always break on major new releases.

Yeah, I’m currently trying to erradicate Little Snitch and ProtonVPN. They don’t like it.

Edit: If you uninstall the apps, they leave some extensions behind. If you go to Settings -> General -> Login items & Extensions -> Extensions, you don't have the option to remove the leftover extensions.

UNLESS: You click on the "By Category" sorting option. Then, if you go to the "Network Extensions" section, there is a small three dots icon that allows you to remove the extension.

So how can I enable the new Siri on Mac in the EU? Is it enough to switch the Siri language to English? Or do I also need to switch the system language?

It's too soon to worry about installer size yet.

So Far - OK 👍 Rosetta installed and working. Only issue I ran into - Lunar wont run.

The macOS 27 release notes state that Rosetta "is not automatically restored after upgrading to macOS 27". I suppose you have to reinstall it afterwards.

The release notes also state that encrypted HFS+ (CoreStorage) is deprecated and won't be supported "in a future version of macOS". It recommends migrating to encrypted APFS. Not a feature of macOS 27, but something to keep in mind.

Middling bug fix: Opening the Notes app to a locked note now unlocks with TouchID.

For all of MacOS 26 (and maybe even 25), if I opened the Notes app and the highlighted note was one which was locked, I had to either type the password, or click to another note and back to the locked one before TouchID would work.

Also seeing the same. Was unable to download using `softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer` (it gave some kind of gatekeeper error), and was unable to install using the InstallAssistant.pkg package downloaded directly from Apple (Got some kind of "Failed to personalize software update" error).

I'm guessing they're all stemming from the same issue...but I just don't know what that issue is.

AirPlay from the Music app on my MacBook Pro M5 is being wonky. The song will be playing to either a Sonos or Bose AirPlay speaker and even though the song is still playing and the time is moving on the Music app, the sound cuts out from the speakers. If I move the slider in the song time back or forward, sound resumes but will cut out again shortly after. I feel like this happened last year too but I can't recall when or if it was during the beta testing. It was fine previously on 26.5.1 and previous to that during MacOS 26.

Edit to add: No issues AirPlaying from the Music app on my iPhone also running the iOS 27 beta to the same speakers.

Oddly enough, I thought the Finder icon was the only nice update to the default icons in Big Sur–Sequoia. I strongly disliked Tahoe’s Finder icon, but this is a surprisingly nice compromise!

Looks like I got a Dynamic Island in addition to the notch in the menu bar:

Thought it was a problem with iStat Menus at first, but quitting it doesn't fix that. Restarting also didn't help.

Oh well, at least I don't need a MacBook Ultra for the Dynamic Island then!

There are dividers between icons in the toolbars but when cursor hovers over them they vanish. It looks careless and flickery.

The CPU and GPU history panels in Activity Monitor have curved corners that almost cut through the graph UI that doesn’t have curved corners.

The claim by the woman in the WWDC video that they went and cleaned up everything is BS or just a sign of not caring enough.

Animations faster and noticeably more responsive.

The now playing bar in Quicktime squishes and bounces in response to your clicks when being dragged, not seen that kind of design anywhere else in the OS yet but fun detail

This fixed it for me. I was in reduced security mode.

Apple Silicon Secure Enclave Disagreement


Sometimes, the local Secure Enclave (which holds your Mac's security keys) gets out of sync with what the beta installer expects. You can force the system to re-verify ownership and security policies:


1 Boot your Mac into Recovery Mode (shut down, then press and hold the Power button).


2 Go to Utilities in the top menu bar and open Startup Security Utility.


3 Ensure your drive is set to Full Security. If it is already on Full Security, toggling it to Reduced Security, rebooting, and then toggling it back to Full Security can force the Secure Enclave to refresh its cryptographic state.
