What it doesn't fix is the excessively long USB drive mounting times. Just updated to the RC, and it's still taking 25-35 seconds per drive to mount. Since it does this in serial instead of parallel, that means it takes several minutes to boot the machine. Welcome to 2004!

Oh I definitely have problem 1. I keep Firefox to hand for whenever Safari decides to have one of it's lengthy pauses. I tried the Technology Preview to see if it helped, but it didn't.

I get it on My MacBook Pro 14 (Max, 64GB), but it doesn't show on my M1 Mini.

As ever, same advice. You never know.
Is it actually Safari though? If it pauses again disable and re enable WiFi and see if it works again.

Is there ANYTHING we can't blame on the "pandemic"?!

Come on.... I agree Mac OS is very complex and sure to have some bugs on release day. But if your software team is working from home instead of in the office, that's no excuse to do an inferior job! If they can't be trusted to test their code when some supervisor isn't looking over their shoulder in person, then they didn't hire the right people for the job.

It's definitely a management problem, but it has nothing to do with supervisors looking over people's shoulders, and it's not a matter of them hiring the wrong people as software developers.

People know about bugs that are being shipped. People know that the bugs being shipped an indication that there are bugs not yet known that are being shipped. People know that the impact of known bugs isn't well understood. They are being overruled. They are being set up to fail by a pace and software development process that is unrealistic and unsustainable.

Apple's software development has been surprisingly successful considering the scope of what they are doing, the way they roll-out substantial features across their platforms more-or-less at once. Even so, that is undercut by their software quality and that software quality its a product of a management problem.

And the Touch ID bug that affects my MacBook Air M1 and iMac M1 since updating to Monterey, is it fixed on 12.1? I cannot use the Touch ID anymore since it fails 90% of the times on both the machines and I have to use the passwords as in the old times... Can someone that tried the 12.1 RC confirm me if this is fixed or not?

I’m unsure if this is a bug and I really hope it is but as of downloading 12.1 RC my MBP Late 2019 is now reporting battery maintenance ? it just seems a bit soon to be needing a new battery in a device this new I’d have thought?

No plans to update. So far 12.0.1 has been stellar on my M1 MBA. Haven't had an OS this stable and smooth in ages.

Hi,

My issues are…

It’s slow, laggy. I’m using Safari, Photoshop and Mail most of the time for work, and all of them are slow.

Sometimes when typing it’s very laggy. And I’ve definitely got the trackpad bug.

I think I’ve got the battery training bug too, it doesn’t last as long as it did before.

Contacted support on Twitter and they were advising me to do all of these long winded steps but they wouldn’t dare admit that there’s nothing I can do and it’s due to this awful update?

The update on my phone isn’t the best either! As I’m typing this I feel like it’s typing slower, and Mail is terrible on the phone too!

macOS Monterey 12.1, which is set to be released to the public in the near future, addresses several significant bugs that Mac users have been complaining about for weeks.

According to Apple's release notes, it fixes a bug that could cause the trackpad to become unresponsive to taps or clicks. We reported on the Tap to Click bug earlier this month after receiving dozens of complaints from MacRumors readers who were seeing Tap to Click fail on a regular basis.

On 2021 MacBook Pro models, there has been an ongoing YouTube problem that can result in HDR content from YouTube causing the machines to panic and crash, an issue that is addressed in macOS Monterey 12.1.

14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro users have also been dealing with an issue that could cause charging to stop when the lid of the machine is closed, which Apple has fixed in the update.

There are several other notable bug fixes in macOS Monterey 12.1 as well. It addresses an issue that could cause the Desktop and Screen Saver to appear blank after selecting photos from the Photos library, and it fixes an issue that could cause external displays to not charge some MacBook Pro and MacBook Air computers when connected to Thunderbolt or USB-C. There's also a fix for an issue that could cause menu bar extras to be obscured by the camera housing on 2021 MacBook Pro models.

macOS Monterey 12.1 is available to developers and public beta testers at this time and we're expecting to see an official release next week ahead of the Christmas holidays.

I'm also seeing panics if my 2021 MBP 16-inch is charged with a 3rd party 100 watt PD 3.0 charger through the USB-C port. It panics if the lid is closed and the charger plugged in after closing the lid. If you uncheck the anti-aging battery check box it seems to solve the problem.

Had a new one today, looks like the network stack crashed. Lost all connectivity. Wi-Fi off, and on didn't do anything. Other machines kept working fine, but it took a reboot for this one to come back.

Happy tap to click is fixed finally. I reported it but it had been acting up over several betas to the point I thought I was having a hardware issue.

I am unfamiliar. Does macOS handle HDR content correctly, only enabling HDR when HDR content is played full screen, or does it leave the washed-out colors on all the time unless you completely disable it?
The video element plays in its own colour space, while the rest of the content on screen is at its correct colour space also. Quite odd at first, the video element plays much brighter than the rest of the screen content.

It handles hdr the same as iPhones. You’ll never notice colour issues.

How does it handle it the same as iPhones when iPhones are OLED and each pixel has its own backlight. If your monitor only has a few zones it can't always localize brightness to the content. Right?

It still works the same way. But prob won't be as localized since zones etc. But in my experience. Since your eyes adjusts to the very high brightness on the HDR window . You can't really tell where the HDR content brightness ends and the SDR content on the outside window starts . Since your eyes are already compensating for the very bright HDR content

What about the USB hub issues? Are these addressed by Monterey 12.1? I'm still on Big Sur exactly for that (lot of devices connected through hub)

Are my posts invisible on here or something lol??

Is anyone else’s MacBook slow and laggy? Trackpad is terrible and typing isn’t much better.

Idk since I'm not on the RC yet but. You should prob share what it is you're using. The model etc with the specs. So people with the same hardware can check too

Thanks for replying. I’ve got a MacBook Pro and I’m just using Safari, Mail and Photoshop most of the time. All of them are slow and laggy since the Monterey update. Trackpad isn’t working properly. It’s a nightmare.

What year of MBP? Yeh Monterey has been a wildcard for many. On some it works okay. On some it's so bad. Gonna take time and updates for it to be a good release I guess :p

2019. It’s a joke. Pay over a grand for a decent laptop and they kill it with a stupid update nobody asked for.
