Fixed in the last beta for meWhat about the infamous memory leak bug?
Sounds good!Fixed in the last beta for me
New Macbook Pro machines came (and continue to ship) with buggy Monterey software. We had no choice. Memory leaks and slow performance are not acceptable with the new Macbook ProMakes more sense to me to just wait for a more mature version to update rather than updating immediately and then making a huge deal about inevitable day 1 bugs in the first release that are bound to quickly be fixed. Yes Apple could and should do better but macOS is one of the largest and most complex pieces of software ever created and was developed when everyone was working from home due to a global pandemic.
I‘m not sure of the cause, I have a M1 MacBook Air with 8GB of RAM. I will have only 2-3 apps open, none of them power user apps, and the free memory will gradually decrease to zero, then memory swaps. I installed a utility that alerts me to zero free ram and it allows me to free up unused RAM. I have to do this every 20 minutes or so while using the computer.I wonder what causes that? I've had my 16" Max laptop since day 1, and never encountered it...
It only enables hdr for hdr contentI am unfamiliar. Does macOS handle HDR content correctly, only enabling HDR when HDR content is played full screen, or does it leave the washed-out colors on all the time unless you completely disable it?
It's only happened to me a couple of times on my 14" MacBook Pro, I've only noticed by checking the activity monitor. No idea what's causing it.I wonder what causes that? I've had my 16" Max laptop since day 1, and never encountered it...
But periodic reboots were also a thing back then. I distinctly remember memleaks in Snow Leopard despite its reputation as the "stable Mac OS."Remember “it just works?"
Those were good times.
I can watch youtube HDR on my Mac Mini M1.Never saw this issue that some encountered, but Google still hasn't enabled HDR, you have to use dev menu- user agent to Microsoft Edge, or Chroma - Windows to run HDR YouTube, rather then the current SDR limitation on a 16" M1 Max MBP. Running RC on two M1 Macs.
Currently mine wont sleep at all. Even if i take it off power and **** the lid.The 12.1 update also introduces new bugs, such as kernel panics during sleep.
Amen. Nevermind the resources apple has and minor update's for this release overall And They set their own release date. They don’t need to arbitrarily release every fall take the time and make it right, or stop doing an annual release a new feature updates once or twice a year. They don’t need to arbitrarily release every fall take the time and make it right, or stop doing an annual release a new feature updates once or twice a year.Is there ANYTHING we can't blame on the "pandemic"?!
Come on.... I agree Mac OS is very complex and sure to have some bugs on release day. But if your software team is working from home instead of in the office, that's no excuse to do an inferior job! If they can't be trusted to test their code when some supervisor isn't looking over their shoulder in person, then they didn't hire the right people for the job.
You don't have to upgrade. Only time it is an issue is when you buy a new Mac with the new OS loaded. Personally, I like new OSes dropping every year for FREE. Nobody is twisting my arm to upgrade and I can get new features if I decide to upgrade.Amen. So it can do both SDR and HDR at the same time? Like HDR in the video and SDR on the rest of the display? It only enables hdr for hdr content
The issue is, if you play HDR content in a window, does it know to not change the colors of everything else on screen besides the HDR video?macOS Montery can handle HDR content.
However that's just the system OS.
Content from the source local file or streaming must be provided by the service provider. If that code in the medium (stream) or the source app that is displaying the source (Chrome/Safari/etc) is displaying HDR content correctly, and the OS is not 'getting it' that's what needed to be fixed I guess.
PS: How is tap-to-click a something "Major" or a major bug?
even with accessibility constraints/restrictions one could just click, right? (well those with MS may not be able to- thinking while typing).
Windows does a terrible job, agreed. Since that's all I am familiar with I am more curious with the experience of jumping back and forth between SDR and HDR content. Like, what happens when you play an SDR and HDR video at the same time? Or when you alt-tab from an HDR video to a photo? The washed out interface thing is a Windows thing. macOS has been able to display HDR since High Sierra. It's even better in Monterey now and with XDR displays.
What about the infamous memory leak bug?
what about the Memory leaks? was that too hard to fix or figure out??
What about that damn memory leak ?? Eating gigabytes of memory for no reason ?
Issues I want to see resolved on my 14" MacBook Pro:
- Memory leaks
- A slight dip in audio about 2 seconds into Youtube videos
- Safari 120Hz
How about the memory leak, SD card reader issues and systemwide 120hz Promotion…
Until they address and fix the ridiculous memory leak, I won’t buy one. Hoping they get it handled soon.
My 3 main concerns:
- No Universal Control (yet)
- Memory leakage
- MagSafe charging "bug" (have yet to use it charging from dock and external display)
My first 0% Rotten Tomatoes score for a post here. Where is my Razzie Award?Makes more sense to me to just wait for a more mature version to update rather than updating immediately and then making a huge deal about inevitable day 1 bugs in the first release that are bound to quickly be fixed. They were addressed in beta 4 so should still be addressed in RC1.For me the mem leaks are critical. They are fundamental.
Other features can wait.
Though maybe they are addressed in RC1
And that is why there is a 12.1 release coming out very soon. No OS is perfect at launch.New Macbook Pro machines came (and continue to ship) with buggy Monterey software. We had no choice. Memory leaks and slow performance are not acceptable with the new Macbook Pro
