I'm curious about something small and probably silly...but can you edit your iPhone home screen on your Mac using mirroring? Like, move the icons around with the new customizability that is coming in iOS18?

iOS 18 is introducing a universal way to do app locking. Until apps switch to that, they have had to implement this locking themselves, and it's possible that Mirroring doesn't support the one-off implementation?
It’s a different concept

Is this integrated into the control center or a standalone app?

They should integrate this into the control center

Can't test it, but it appears to be a continuation of Handoff and Continuity. What Craig demoed was your phone icon showing up on your dock and then you interact with it like an app. Hiding it in control center (on the mac) would be less useful than the current (demoed) implementation. But again, I can't test it so I'm only going off what they showed.

Just tried this and it doesn’t work. They’ll need to bring something else to make this work. Have not tried it with third party mirroring apps, though.
Thanks for trying.

was Vision Pro , Mac and iPhone all on beta software ?

iPhone mirroring works pretty well. No real setup, it's just there ready to go. This would have saved me a lot of headaches when the display on my iPhone display was glitching or when I cracked a display. I wouldn't have had to panic about missed calls or messages while waiting for a replacement.

I have the app icon in the Mac dock but when I go to settings to enable mirroring I can't see the option.
I couldn't see the option either - but after retrying to connect it worked (and has worked since) without me doing anything in the settings app.

With continuity, you are using the phone, so it knows you might want to continue on your Mac.
With iPhone mirroring, you are not using the phone. You are the one who knows the intention, there is no way your mac knows you might want to look at your iPhone.

If it’s an App, it will either be forgotten in the launchpad, or need to take a spot in my dock.
If it’s in control center, it can live next to airplay/screen mirroring and always be there.

It makes more sense to me for it to live in the control center

Has anyone tried Microsoft Authenticator? I read a claim that it might be blocked (this claim was before beta 2 came along) so it would be good to confirm whether or not it works.

It appears to me that notifications from the iPhone are independent of actually having the iPhone Mirroring app open or connected. I am still getting my iPhone notifications on my Mac even after closing the mirroring app. The notification settings for iPhone notifications are under Notifications in settings on the Mac as well. Anyone else experiencing this behavior?

Yes this was announced as a feature at the macOS section of the keynote. The Mac can receive iPhone push notifications now.

That’s why I said it’s an offshoot of continuity AND handoff.

I won’t be able to use this for years so I don’t really have a dog in this fight in terms of where it’s located, but the demo Craig gave showed it showing up in the Dock 🤷‍♂️

It works in the UK. Notification does not show on Mac, and my biggest complaint is that the size cannot be enlarged.

So far I would consider this is the best addition to iOS/MacOS in years. Only complaint so far is vertical scrolling doesn't seem to work with third party mice/trackballs. Works fine with the MagicMouse though.
Hopefully you reported that as a bug so it can be fixed!

I don't know, I think it's kinda fun. Time will tell. It may be great, but it's a new feature. Seems to work well. It's sort of like a hand-off rather than mirroring, as orientation doesn't apply ( No landscape apparently). But you can move it around on the screen (thankfully) and it seems responsive. Another option. I've got a feeling it's going to be something I use all the time.

But, if I had a nickel.....

How far does the phone have to be to
The Mac? Can it work if your phone is way on your 3rd floor and your downstairs; does it have it be in the same room?

Anyone got this to work in Canada?
It says I need to turn it on in system settings, but I do not see any toggle?
Is the reason regional or am I just not seeing something in the settings?

Works with an US Apple Account
Both devices right on the same US account right? Even returning to the EU account it goes away right? Too bad, can't have my devices running on an empty account with no apps no docs no nothing...
