I just hope that any new Macs also include 10 GBE. I'm just looking for an excuse to upgrade my GBE switch (and my server, which is really old and should be replaced)!

Do not worry guys, all this extra performance and speed will be crippled by standard 5400 rpm and 7200 rpm drives on minis and iMacs. Some things will take years to change!

I really do sympathise with your situation. I'm hoping that a significant CPU boost, larger storage options, and even quicker SSDs should soften the blow. It's only a matter of time until Apple do away with all this stuff, I'm afraid. Best look at the positives.

Remember the fallout with the first rMBP when they got rid of Firewire, Ethernet, the optical drive, and the Line In jack, all in one move? It's not perfect, but it's gonna happen; for better or for worse. Let's see how the performance is! :)

Sure, that's why I'm talking about purchasing a backpack - as I have a MB Air now, I usually carry a small box in my backpack containing miniDP -> VGA/HDMI/DVI-D adaptors, USB cables of all kind, two USB hubs, TI CC-RF chips debugger (soon to be accompanied with Cypress BT LE MCU debugger), 30 pin + Lightning Adaptor cable for iOS testing and iPod Nano 3rd gen charging (the best thing Apple has ever manufactured, hopefully it will last at least another 9 years...), USB to RS232 adaptor... And probably this collection will have to be expanded with several USB-C to USB-A adaptors and TB3 to TB2/DP adaptor or with a whole bunch of new displays USB-C/TB3 adaptors... The good thing is that USB-C could last at least as long as USB-A.

Oh boy… you'd be better off carting around an iMac and a UPS when the new MacBook Pro comes out! :D

Apple's Metal came WAY before Vulkan, and supplants aging OpenGL. I do hope they put new GPUs in the next Macs. Seems likely.

I hope they do not choose AMD Polaris which (as usual) is way inferior to the Nvidia Pascal :-(

Thunderbolt is kinda losing purpose now.

Yeah, Thunderbolt 3 is 40 Gb/s, compared to this new USB 3.1 spec at 10, but DisplayPort 1.3 is already at 32 Gb/s, and USB is catching up faster than Thunderbolt devices are coming out that actually take advantage of the spec.

And DisplayPort already supports daisy-chaining displays. The only advantage of Thunderbolt is that you can slip a hard drive in there with your monitor's daisy chain, yet Thunderbolt doesn't provide enough bandwidth to drive more than two 4K displays.

Meanwhile, the price of Thunderbolt hardware is price prohibitive. I'd hoped Tunderbolt would create innovative things like external GPUs (buy MacBook Pro with integrated GPU, have a GPU in your dock at home to make it a gaming or CAD monster), but they're so expensive that they're not getting to mainstream users.

Thunderbolt 3 can hit 40Gbps with an active cable. So theoretically it can do 2 streams of DisplayPort 1.2.
Yeah, but DisplayPort 1.3 is 32 Gbps. I'm not seeing a big advantage here.

Well, I usually use only some out of these at moment :D
But common setup with an Air is: TI MCU debugger + iOS device connected in a USB hub and a external hard drive or USB flash drive in second port, external display in the TB/DP port... If they'll keep at least 3 data connectors, I'll deal with it somehow :) (at home I use U2515H's USB hub for connecting all of this stuff)

Anyway, going a bit offtopic. I think people should buy a Mac when they need it, and shouldn't wait for a new model just because it has new features. Unless of course, you do care about having the newest of the newest OR if your current one is pretty old already.

I absolutely agree. In everyday use most of the features are something you play around with for two or three times and after this you rarely using these features. I don't really care if it's a Broadwell, Skylake or KabyLake CPU in every day use. Because at least 90% of the time my CPU is at about 10% charge or less. And I don't care if the battery lasts 7, 8, 9 or 12 hours. For all day usage it's more than enough.
I bought my 15" MacBook Pro even knowing Apple is probably releasing a new MacBook Pro this fall. But I needed a new laptop right now and I think my MBP is enough for my usage in the next couple of years.

And Super Speed Plus...really? Why not "Super Speed Plus Pro Turbo Extreme +++"?

I like your thinking. Like:

A new iMac by the end of the year would be nice.
There's always talk about the MacBooks but not a lot about the imac's. I could use a new one and if they are updating soon, I can wait a month or two for the USB c ports (although the last time I bought one I kept waiting for USB 3, gave up and never got anything that needed 3)

It's not going to be Pascal, unfortunately. The power draw on the mobile Pascal chips announced so far is just too high for the TDP of the MacBook Pro. The Sierra betas also contain Polaris driver support already so it's basically 99.9% confirmed it's going to be a Polaris chip in there.

The code shows support for USB 3.1 Gen 2 but I haven't seen anything related to TB 3, which is up to 40 Gb/sec. Seems a little presumptuous to make a statement like "code confirms Thunderbolt 3".

No suitable Mac --> No money from iOS Development --> Sorry Apple, no iPhone. :)
Conclusion: I don't care about iPhone, I need a work machine! And I need MacBook Pro, no HipsterBook™ "Pro" :(
The new Macs are 1000000000000000000000x more exciting than iPhone 7.

1000% Agreed I'm with you and This September and October I'll have hard earned money to BURN I want to exercise, work and hibernate and develop this winter!!

Wondering if "Magic Keyboard 3" will have that OLED touchbar in the future :D

Would be nice, but not necessary for me. Besides looks too much like the early 2000 generation HP EliteBooks; Yuck!

USB is so confusing. USB 3.1 gen 2... What's next? USB 3.1 gen 2 rev b?

Ya know?! Sounds like those old Pontiac cars: GTS-X Premium Fuel this dat then on top of what junk!

Kaby Lake natively supports USB 3.1 Gen 2 and Thunderbolt 3

Confirmation all new iMacs and MacBook Pro's to get Kaby Lake and not Sky Lake? Could explain why it's been so long with no new hardware updates.

Bring it!

I hope Apple is on point ... would be great to see Apple SVP of hardware marketing Schiller say once again "Apple can't innovate my ass!" LOVE this guy! In my mind HE is the only REAL Apple employee left the inner guiding spirit that was left from Jobs' untimely exit.

Lol it's not going to be Pascal, man. The code discovered already makes it almost certain it's Polaris, Gurman said on Bloomberg it's Polaris, and the TDP for Pascal is double/more than double than of Polaris. Maybe what you need is a gaming laptop, like Razer Blade or Gigabyte Aero.
