Why are most in here are acting as if they can't run Monterey anymore or won't see any security updates for Monterey post Ventura release?

Apple is not dropping support entirely for non-Ventura compatible Macs just yet. You're "just" not getting Ventura.
Exactly.

Besides, something like Stage Manager can be mimicked with "Hide Others ⌥⌘H" (standard menu option), possibly combined with AltTab.

Using your iPhone (or Android) as a webcam on your non-Ventura Mac is also possible.

Oh wow, my 2016 Macbook is finally non-upgradeable. Tears. Luckily, I was able to replace the top and bottom parts of my 13 incher for free (been very problematic but appreciate the free replacements) so it should last me a few more years.

Apple sold the 2014 Mac Mini until 2018.

If you purchased it then, your machine got... 3 years of support.

That’s absolutely brutal.
No, it got 8 years of support and anyone buying it in 2018 should have had their head examined as there were still better choices. And other than Xcode which is brutal about dropping support for the prior OS version, what suddenly makes it an issue when it will still have Monterey and security updates for at least the next two years. Are people actually going to need the latest OS for a computer that will be 10 years old by the time it loses even security updates. The dual-core is going to be chugging at any rate.

I will concede that the 2014 Mac mini is a severe indictment of Apple under Tim Cook…I honestly wish there was a way to force them to trade those in one for one with a 2018 mini.

No, it’s not. There is zero reason for a governmental body to take interest in when Apple ends support for certain devices, especially when it’s transitioning from one CPU architecture to another. Trying to use governmental power to force Apple to support macOS ad infinitum is just sour grapes and whining at this point. Of course support for Intel-based computers is going to end eventually. Do you think it won’t? That smacks of naivete. Or worse. Stop whining to the government about your sense of entitlement.
I don't know about others but I was obviously joking. I just get a kick from seeing articles about the EU here. It's a meme at this point.

Although it's ironic and hypocritical for Apple to pander to the climate change crowd and at the same time not extend support even just for security updates for older perfectly functioning machines that cost a lot of money.

Something like 5 years of OS version updates and 5 years of extended security support would be fine for a lot of people that just want to feel safe and don't care about having the latest. I bet you a lot of people would even pay for the option to have those security updates.

They’re still selling brand-new Intel Macs today.

I‘d bet that they will be supported for more than one year (on the newest OS).
They are also selling Watch Series 3 today and yet it isn't supported in watchOS 9. So they aren't above doing that. But I'd argue that with Macs it is much harder to justify. Especially since they are also much more modern than Watch Series 3...

WHAT!?

This is a far more aggressive loss of support than I dreamed.
The 2013 Mac Pro was old, but it was still sold until December 2019. If these system requirements are true Apple just set a new record for "fastest drop after discontinuation". It just lost support for running the newest release OS even faster than a 2005 G5 PowerPC!

Similarly Apple also just set a new record for fastest-drop-after-release (for a 64b intel Mac) after dropping the 2017 MBA, crushing the dishonorable record Monterey set by dropping the Mid 2015 5K iMac.

Looks like they are cutting out as many Intel Macs as they can, I bet that all Intel machines are about 2 major releases away from being done.
Well, they're not quite done actually selling Intel machines. Yes, though, this is a dramatic change. It looks like the cutoff now is in requiring T2 chips.

2015 MBP was a great purchase
Had mine since 2017, still runs everything I need, perfect machone, no Interest in replacing anytime soon…

QQ wonder if universal control works between Ventura and Monterey ?

And this should come as absolutely NO surprise to anyone in these forums!!! Why are people getting upset that this is actually happening? Was no one paying attention for the past 2 years?
Why are you so mad that people who bought their devices for $1000+ to even possibly the tune of $10000 and higher are mad that Apple is speeding up the deprecation of their devices? An architectural shift for your new devices increases the speed of deprecation for your older devices... how exactly? The "they have M1/M2 chips now so of course Intel will be left unsupported faster"-argument you're coming with is just not an argument. Never mind that it goes against Apple's entire "but we're eco-friendly" claims. Nobody is arguing that Apple shouldn't have deprecated devices from back in 2014. But that's not what they're doing, is it? There was no reason for people in 2016 up to 2019 to believe that Apple would be planning to deprecate their devices years ahead of what they did previously, even *with* the knowledge that Apple was moving to their own architecture. That's just nuts.

They dropped Haswell-era, Broadwell and Skylake era Intel CPUs whether for security reasons or another esoteric reason. It’s completely logical that support is dropped in a graduated manner like this. Why is any of this a surprise to you. Intel support is going away. Apple is actually moving slower than most of us thought they would.

Heck at this rate my 2020 M1 MacBook air might be on the chopping block next year if this continues.

Really hope they keep supporting the M1 for a while.
It would reasonable to expect that M1/M2 machines get 9-10 years support. With Intel, Apple is constantly working around Intel-specific security holes and patches, as well as some architecture limitations. Since they own the Mx series end-to-end, I would expect them to have (greater than) iOS-level of support, which is usually 7 years. Many people don't keep phones 7 years, but it's certainly expected for a computer.
