Well, make the choice that's right for you. If you simply want to financially contribute to a site that you find value in, perhaps a one-time donation will be adequate, even if the result is only a year's worth of "exclusive membership benefits". But in the end, crunch your numbers, give it some thought, and make the best decision for you. :)

Well I chose... and have contributed.
Will decide next year whether I continue to contribute or not... but am happy to put something back into a website that I do visit regularly, enjoy, value, and hopefully value add back to it occasionally as well.

Well, it may be a uncalled for on my part (seeing as how I haven't contributed yet), but Thanks for contributing! :)

Now I feel all guilty :(

Perhaps it's time for us to put up, or shut up!

If I still own a Mac when I graduate from college and get a job... in 2 years. I'll contribute. I promise. :) (Considering I've been a Mac user for life, I'm fairly certain I'll still own a Mac) ;)

That wasn't my intention mate - sorry.
It's no problem. Somehow, I find the energy to carry on. :p :D

So... back to the topic. :D Is the general concensus that the duration a proccessor was used will remain proportional? There is already a drastic gap between ranks, and it is only likely to widen if it remains proportional.

If this is the case, eventually, we will hit a plateau... All of the active posters will be at the same rank, but have post counts varying by 5-10,000 posts!

I'm not so sure I like that idea.

That seems to have been the case with the 65832 and 68010. I don't know how long the 601 was around though in relation to the other processors, so I'm not sure what will happen. Guess we'll have to wait and see! It's nice knowing that a person can't simply be a post-whore and rise up to the top ranks instantly - it basically takes years of dedication and devotion to attain the higher ranks, and I like that concept - it makes things more meaningful.

That being said, once I'm a 601, it probably will be a few years until I see another rank after that, so I'll probably lose track of things and the whole "ranking" issue won't even be something I think about. ;)

True. However, even though the rank isn't a big deal, it still drives activity on the forums. As (most) members are approaching a new rank, they post more but don't start spamming. If we hit a plateau of rank, I fear there won't be as much "incentive" to post.

I'm just thinking it would be silly for the way ranks are processed to cause a negative impact on future MR growth. :)

I think that's true at the initial 6502 (get 'tar) level and then perhaps at 65816. After that, I'm not sure how many people really keep track of their postcount.

But that could a good thing if it means we get rid of people who post simply for the sake of posting, albeit after 5,000 posts. :(

I think it would be difficult to find many spammers at that post-count level. After getting to that many posts in a community like this, they most likely respect the rules.

I'd agree with this. Until Doctor Q's latest rankings came out a week ago I had no idea how many posts I had, and wasn't really too concerned about it...

I wish I had been posting for as long as i have been reading I coulda had a cool avatar.

Don't worry about it, all in good time. I lurked on MR for a LONG time before I joined, and even then, I only started posting about 4 months after I had my account. Just enjoy the site, post when you want to, and the rest will fall into place. ;)

Im about 5 away from 68000, so it will be a while before a new rank so I wont give post count much thought for some time.

Just curious to hear people's feedback on this.
I, too, would like to know this.

ps. I didn't bother to read the rest of the posts to find an answer. Perhaps someone could summarize this whole thread in 20 words or less. Thank you. ;)

Welcome to the 601 Club Lacero! There are only a few of us, so enjoy! And at your current post/day count, you'll eventually surpass me I'm sure... ;)

As long as it takes for Apple to release the PowerBook G5

it ain't gonna happen:rolleyes:

You're absolutely correct, no one will ever reach a "G5" ranking, (nor a G4 or G3 ranking), as MacRumor rankings only go by processor architectures, not by marketing names.

As for someone becoming a MacRumors 970 however, that will indeed happen. Just not for a long time...

No one has reached 10,000 without being sideswiped into becoming a mod, contributor or demi-god. Want to race to 10K, Shard?

Let's not try that :D

Yes, I think if we engage in such an "amazing race" neither of us will ultimately win, other than perhaps becoming the record holders for "members with the highest post counts who have been banned". ;)

And this would be different from any other thread, how, exactly? ;)

Actually, this is a bit higher than I originally thought. Yeah, I did a good job on this one. But at least it has spanned several months....
