...some people, they are here to contribute, engage in good discussions, become educated, educate others, and all that - the majority of people here probably don't even care about their rank or their post counts, and find it irrelevant.

I still semi regularly check to see if the contribution option is open again... not for the ability to change my status... or to jump the ability to get an avatar...
but for the reasons you listed. Since I switched just over twelve months ago - I have found these forums to be an amazing source of info, news, goss, rumours (yeah UK / Aussie spelling), ideas, and general banter and chats. I have learnt alot, and hopefully started to be able to help others as well. I don't post enough to worry about rankings / status / titles... but I am more than happy enough (and still quite willing) to financially help support a site that I get so much out of!

There aren't many sites that I check most days... nor are there many sites that I automatically turn to if I want to know something. So when the contribution option returns I for one will contribute.

Are Moderator, Contributor, etc. considered rankings?

Are the rankings only newbie, member, regular, and the processor numbers or is there something else besides those that also represents a rank?
These are "off-the-scale" rankings, achieved by doing something other than increasing your post count (since all other rankings are based on post count). Therefore, they don't contribute to the post count ranking scale.

That's a cool idea too. :) What was the Forum about? Or just general stuff?

I was just general stupid stuff. I tried to get it going between some friends at school and some friends from back home, mostly so we could all stay in touch during our busy lives....but it just didn't really take because there were only a few people involved (roughly 8 or so :p) and it just didn't warrant good communication and ''active'' posting.

I liked the Caesar rankings because I love the 'Gladiator' type movies, Gladiator included.

Yah, it can be tough sometimes. My firend did essentially the same thing, and although it worked well for our out of town friends, the novelty kind of weared off, so there is far less posting on it now than there used to be at its inception.

A friend of mine, who happened to be one on my forum as well, started one just a little while before mine however and his worked...oh well, another thing I would have had to check anyway, time is short as it is.

I hear ya - I wish I had more hours in the day. I have so may interests, so may things I like to do... and the there's work as well... I guess in a way it's a good problem to have. ;)

I can't believe this thread is still going... even though it's now gone off-topic. :p

Well, it hasn't really gone off topic that badly. Doctor Q himself posted 5 posts ago, and we've been answering questions, having discussions and the like. It's all good.

At this point, it looks like jefhatfield will be the first non-moderator, non-contributor to reach 10,000 posts. However, jefhatfield has yet to break 8,000 posts...so there's a ways to go yet.

That's true... I wasn't trying to say this thread deserved to be wastelanded or anything. :)

No worries! :)

Yep, it looks that way, but with members with insane posts/day counts like mkrishnan, PlaceofDis, etc., who knows if he may be overtaken! ;) I'll be keeping a close eye on things when that happens. Of course, perhaps the three of them, (and everyone else near that 10,000 mark), will decide to contribute to the site, all become Demi-Gods, and then we'll never know! ;)

i'm a contributor/Demi now so im out of the running, but mkrishnan posts even more than i do, i wouldn't be too surprised to see him overtake jef in a year or so maybe..... but then again who knows what will happen....

Ah yes, so you are - congrats, and well done! :)

Looks like you'll be a Demi-God sooner than you thought DJY!

Mmm just had a look... and rather than once off donations - it seems to be an annual subscription... and in USD - which for us Aussie's hurts! Good old conversion rates and all! Will have to do my sums.

Well, make the choice that's right for you. If you simply want to financially contribute to a site that you find value in, perhaps a one-time donation will be adequate, even if the result is only a year's worth of "exclusive membership benefits". But in the end, crunch your numbers, give it some thought, and make the best decision for you. :)

Great post, but it does raise the question as to why you have chosen not to contribute as of yet? Just puzzled by the well worded post. Not ragging on you.

No no, perfectly understandable. It's just something I haven't decided to do yet, that's all, can't really explain it much further. :) (And technically I could point out that it's easy for someone to make that comment who has already contributed themselves. ;))

Maybe Shard's leaving open the possibility of becoming the first person to surpass 601 incase jefhatfield never does :)

Damn, you figured out my master plan! ;) Nah, that's not really it. (Plus, others like mkrishnan are on a far greater pace than I am to accomplish such a feat!) Although I do like having a processor ranking, I know that technically you could probably ask the MacRumors Gods to not change your ranking to Demi-God/Goddess/Contributor even if you have contributed, so that wouldn't be a big deal to me if I ever did decide to join the Contributor Club. ;)

But what if they all contribute? You're our only hope to find out the mystery of what's next! :D

Geez, when you put it that way... I don't know if I can handle this serious responsibility... ;)
