I just donated last week! Therefore i dont have any thing in my arm anymore, all i can do is post a picture of my donor card.

I also would like to tell everyone who's not sure if they want to donate, that they should. It's incredibly rewarding, and a huge satisfaction knowing that you can help save lifes that way.

Well played MR for starting this awesome campaign.

The ash cloud kept my wife and I from our previous donation appointment so we are going next week instead. Picture to follow.

I'd love to know the answer to this question as well. Although I didn't live as long in England, I'm not allowed to donate blood for the same reason. The irony is that my wife and I were starving students back then and couldn't afford meat (this is when we were introduced to quorn).

The last time I checked the UK 'visiting' limit is '3 months or more' between 1980 and 1996. From: http://www.redcrossblood.org/donati...ligibility-criteria-alphabetical-listing#arc5

I haven't eaten meat for 20 years, well beyond the average incubation time of CJD. I'd like to give but the Red Cross doesn't want my blood.

Nice credentials, xplor! Does the donor card let you check in more quickly? I just show them my driver's license and they look me up in the computer.

Give Blood

"Give Blood" is a great song by Pete Townshend and also a selfless act of heroism as you can give to those in need and you do not need to do much other than lay back and relax. Clinic held at work today was an easy way to give. Donation #51. Done!!:)

Congratulations! I have added your name to the honour roll! Was it the MacRumors Blood Drive than encouraged you to give blood for the first time?

Was it better or worse than what you were expecting?

Yes, I usually just walk by the drive but after noting the MacRumors campaign, I decided to give it a "shot"- and was much better than I expected! Thanks!

Regular donor here...

Going again 16th June as it is the soonest session near me after I am able to donate again.

Three cheers for our two dozen donors so far! You're what this is all about. Not only have you helped dozens of injured or ill people who can't express their gratitude to you, but imagine the thanks you'd get from their family members if they knew who donated the blood.

It's very gratifying to see first-time blood donors like iMaxwell.Morgan as well as longer-term donors like -=bitbucket=- represented here. Congratulations one and all!

-=bitbucket=-, you are one seriously dedicated donor!

I'll be donating double platelets at our school drive this coming Monday, May 10th. The high school is a great place to have a blood drive. We received over 190 units in December of '09. All the kids want to get out of class and get snacks!

I wish I knew how much I've given in my lifetime. I'm 47 now and started when I was 17. I haven't been consistent, though. We now live in an area that has a donation center in town so it's much easier to give than trying to battle a poorly-staffed portable blood drive.

Really trying to build up the courage to do one, especially now. For so long I have been meaning to do one, its just I'm afraid. I don't mind the injection part it is the feeling of the blood dripping out of me. It feels so unnatural, yes I know make fun of me however I have fainted on numerous times for blood tests, I have also fainted watching my partner get a blood test

However I really really want to do one, I might do it soon :D I hope that if I faint they will continue while I am out?

Really trying to build up the courage to do one...
If you faint at the sight of blood or the thought of being hooked up to a tube then you aren't a good candidate to be a blood donor. Donor safety comes before anything else. They would immediately disconnect you if you fainted after starting a donation.

I think it's just a sign that you're human. I heard that we're biologically programmed so our blood pressure drops (which is what makes you faint) if we see blood, as a basic survival mechanism (in case we are the one who is bleeding). I'm not a medical doctor but it makes sense to me.

My suggestion: don't put yourself at risk. Instead, help the cause by encouraging others to donate. The same goes for those who are underweight, underage, or disqualified because they belong to a "risk class" (fairly or not). Not everyone can donate blood, but everyone can help spread the word.

Since I was elegible to donate blood (oct '09, 18 yo), I'm donating blood too. I'm also an organ donor since my 18th birthday. The first time I donated blood was about 2/3 months ago and yesterday I got a new appointment in the mail.

May 11 2010 is my next elegible blood donation. I will be giving half a litre (maximum) of blood (group O+). There needs to be a space of 2 to 3 months between donations.
I'll make a photo:D

I hope more people give blood too! It is for a very good cause and here in the Netherlands it's regulated very well. You even get something nice to drink and eat afterwards and the doctors are very friendly.

I'll post back may 11! Sign me up:D

P.S. I hate needles, and I hate the whole process, but put myself over it for the good cause it delivers.

Hey guys, just to say congratulations this is the MR community at it's very best.

I regularly donate (since 1994) however I'm currently out of action after tearing a muscle in December, still on anti-inflammatories for it.

Not sure if this applies outside the UK, but we petitioned my work to allow the Blood Transfusion service park their bus in our car park. This means we get an hour off work, a wee lay down and a biscuit!

As a regular donor, I'd like to say how nice it is to see a group of people embrace blood donation so readily. So I guess this is the part where I attach the photo. 19th donation lifetime.

I never post in the forums, but im a daily reader of the rumors. My donation went smoothly at the American Red Cross. My second time donating but it was the first time at the Red Cross. It was about 45 minutes from the time I walked in to the time I left. The majority of the time was the initial paperwork.
