Folks, as we noted in the article you presumably read before posting in this thread, you can toggle between fixed and fluid page widths at the bottom of the front page.

I have a 27" monitor and have fluid page turned on, half of the page is white space.

I guess I am in a minority.. I definitely prefer the old design.

Me too, but... whatever. I'll get used to it.

However, I think the "recent comments/posts" sidebar font is WAY too big (there's a LOT to scroll through) and I've noticed a date sorting issue because the May 3 article about the new TB iMacs is appearing as a "new" news in between articles dates May 12 and 11.

I like it just fine. The main content area hasn’t changed much, so it’s nothing jarring to adapt to. Sounds like a big job, too!
