I have a 27" monitor and have fluid page turned on, half of the page is white space.

True...the fluid aspect is within a range, and that's something we can probably adjust very easily unless there are specific design constraints I'm not aware of.

Page Load Times - Pages will load faster and the site will be able to handle more traffic.

Just ran your site in YSlow (website performance analyser Firefox addon from Yahoo) you you got a Grade C. Here is what it said:

You scored an 'F' on "Make fewer HTTP requests"
  • This page has 42 external Javascript scripts. Try combining them into one.
  • This page has 8 external background images. Try combining them with CSS sprites. (ME: 42 JavaScript files, seriously!!)

F on "Add Expires headers"
  • There are 57 static components without a far-future expiration date.

F on "Use a Content Delivery Network (CDN)"
  • There are 73 static components that are not on CDN.

Otherwise, I do like the design, and it does seem to load fast. Keep up the good work ;)

Really weird going from one thread page to another and going to a whole new design. Was really confused for a second there. But definitely approve!

I don't like it :(

I feel as if the stories need to be centered. It's too left right now.

It also broke a Stylish addon theme I was using for the site called "Macrumors complete redesign" haha. Now that skin was awesome.

I liked the old style to be honest.

I like the new look mostly. Nice work Arn and Co.

Seems the pages have a yellow tint and wicked light bleed on lower left.

I very much prefer the old version. This new thing has far too much blank white space on the sides. Is there a way to still view the old version? Like ca.gizmodo.com?

Its nice, but even on my 20" screen i have big white borders each side, it feels like its been designed for non widescreen displays?

Running a browser full-screen is a waste, unless you have a tiny screen. Also, having massively wide columns with hugely long lines of text is harder to read.

Up with the times - love it

Love the sleek new design! The old page combined with slow work internet gave me AOL flashbacks - no one needs that :). Load times for me are ~10x faster, thanks!

Congrats on the design. Now has a lot of unused space. Not sure if it's good or bad.

The older design allows seeing more items. The new sidebar text is as big as the main articles. Gray area of sidebar don't really need horizontal lines.

And it's slightly too wide on 1024 display. (um vertical scroll bar takes pixels)

#1 is due to twitter/facebook/ad includes
#2 and #3 - we do use a CDN, they just don't recognize it. And I believe it uses etags, not expires.

Please bring back the voting option!!!

The main appeal of MacRumors was being able to see the general consensus on each story. Please bring back voting positive or negative on stories! That's what makes news stories interesting to follow.

Yes, bring back the voting

The votes are the first thing I look at because it gives me an idea if the article is generally market supported or not, and really, that's the bottom line.

Even when I read something that seems positive, a largely negative rating will help me realize that, for example, some great new service has hidden charges.

It's like taking "likes" away from Facebook. You can rarely find a site without such a feature anymore. What would Amazon be without "helpful/not helpful"? Talk about going backwards in social media. I'm hoping it's just a temporary thing in the transition.

Voting was an inane feature. I'm sad to see the post up and down made it in the redesign.
