I typically enjoy/welcome updates... but in this instance I don't really care for the changes. It could be just an initial reaction, so I'll give it some time to see how it works.

I like it. Looks and feels much better than the old design.

However, I do miss the full width of the old design - on my display, it was wide enough to make use of my screen size, but small enough to not be the entire width. The "zoom" button at the bottom now is either very narrow or very wide for me - would be nice if there was a sortof "in the middle" option.

I tried to use the avatar editor to simply reposition my image from the squarish format to the roundish format and it would not let me simply move it where I wanted. So I had to find my original file, find an editing tool I never use to crop it fairly appropriately then upload it from my primary graphics machine. But interestingly the site is no longer compatible with older OS versions (that machine runs 10.4.11). So after some machinations I updated an avatar. Not what I wanted to do with my morning really.

Testing the edit function on the MacBook Air 10.9.5 and it does work. Everyone go back to some of my recent posts and hit like just to see how that function works. Click on my name, find all posts, click on one or two and hit like. Since it is just a test nobody will accuse you of actually liking them. :D

If you want to update something, have a less logarithmic variation of the post count naming scheme.

I prefer the old site but will get use to this one. Not too far out there. Macrumors has always been my favorite place to read topics and post. I go to about 4 sites per day but I only post on Macrumors. When you are the best be careful not to listen to the "experts" and loose your way. You have been the best for a reason.

Looks much better but has too much whitespace for one line comments. Consider shrinking the default post box height by at least 10 pixels. That shouldn't interfere with any overall formatting. Or, more drastically, reduce the size of some of the commenting features/buttons and shrink even more. This would tighten up the page and reduce visual scanning and scrolling. On the other hand, it helps cognitive processing of material to have it spread out a bit (like it is currently) so it doesn't overwhelm. The whitespace does appear to be overwhelming to many people, which increases cognitive load and stress (I had to add a little cognitive neuroscience input).

The default font size is good, at least on the desktop site. It's a welcome upgrade overall.

Over the weekend, we launched a new version of the MacRumors Forums. Beyond a long overdue redesign, we also migrated to a new discussion platform called XenForo.

The MacRumors Forums have been running since 2001 and have over 800,000 members and 20,000,000 posts. We have discussions documenting the first iPod, the first iPhone and the death of Steve Jobs.

The move to a new software platform brings us a number of new features, including but not limited to:

- Responsive design
- Auto save text editor
- Social registration and login. Register with Facebook and Twitter.
- Notification system for replies, @mentions, quotes and likes.
- Improved security

The modern new design was carefully crafted by Audentio Design. We are listening to feedback and will be making ongoing tweaks. Please offer specific comments and questions in the site feedback forum or this article thread.

Now is also a great time to register for our forums. Logged-in users see fewer ads in the forums than guests, and can comment on news stories.

Existing users may have to login again if they haven't since the transition. All users are now allowed an avatar and existing avatars should be updated to the larger size now allowed. There are a small percentage of users who may have to reset their passwords due to the transition. Otherwise, we've migrated all existing accounts and posts into the new system. If you have a problem with your account, contact us through our contact form.

Good to see some other forum than vbulletin make it to the surface...

Change is nice. Just have to get use to it, but most of it seems to be just common sense and cruising around to find how the new look works.

Is it just me? This is the only website that keeps crashing on my iPad and iPhone. Desktop is OK, but I just cannot use it on my iPhone and iPad. Anybody with the same problem?

Sounds pretty elitist to me. Don't break your arm patting yourself on the back.

Patting myself on the back hmm...

Yes you are right, I wrongfully took credit for:
1. finding a cure for cancer.
2. developing a new app that helps you get your head out of your misguided aspirations.
3. found a way to stop single socks from disappearing.

Oh yeah, I did none of these things, nor did I pat myself on the back.

I would like to see the ability to use "desktop view" on my iPhone. I posted a link to the XenForo add-on for this feature in the other thread. I almost always dislike mobile views of any kind. They are always too "big" and take up too much space, looking cluttered.

Other than that, I dig it! I like XenForo much more than the previous system, especially the alerts.

What's up with the hideous built-in emojis though? Chopped-off shadow at the bottom and no retina support.

Just want to remind people that their alternative would have been to go with vBulletin's newer versions which is a wholly mess and it's possible that the forum had been customized too heavily to support an easy upgrade to newer vBulletin versions.

Change can be hard. We'll all get used to it and sounds like the devs are listening to people about the design and missing features.

Thank you for the hard work of everybody who make MacRumors.com possible!

Everything looks clean and pretty. Don't like the circular avatars though (maybe I am too used to square)

Circles are actually nice for faces, but terrible for everything else.

I love getting news like this *after* the fact, when it is no longer news, especially when the news is about the news source itself. As if they were blindsided by this.

I like it a lot. It's finally modern, looks great from a design perspective, and I can FINALLY view my notifications more than once. I agree it does need some tweaking though, like a bit more contrast. Otherwise, good job!

I know, as humans, we typically don't like change. But just give it a little while and we'll all get used to it (save for a few) just like with iOS7.

pretty sure mobile browsers give you that option under their settings. "Request Desktop Site"
