The old design was easier to visualize things but I agreed it was outdated.
Ugh, it wasn't broke, but you tried to fix it anyway.
Why?
vBulletin is on its last legs and has no future. The version we are on (v3) is many years old and has been End of Lifed (no more updates). Even migrating to vB 4 or 5 doesn't offer a clear path after that.
Xenforo is in active development, and has a pretty strong community behind it. It's also somewhat similar to vBulletin in behavior/feel. There are some less-traditional forums out there, but we wanted to keep a general feel of it as is.
Aesthetically and practically, would prefer the
thread window to be narrower (without having
to resize the browser).
Shorter line-lengths are much easier to read.

pretty sure mobile browsers give you that option under their settings. "Request Desktop Site"
Desktop view on your phone.
They are actually the same. It's just how it lays out.
Yes, agreed exactlyI like this new update on full fledged OSes, however, it's terrible on Mobile. Some refinement for mobile would make it awesome.

Your friendly superhero, Spiderman.
Many of us realize that those platforms provide no value and avoid having them as part of our lives. Don't force it on us here too.
I fundamentally like it, although I'm so used to the old site - I currently find this refresh unfamiliar & a little confusing but I'm sure the more I use it the more I'll get used to it!!
Good Job!
Most of us? It is fine to have an opinion but not one that comes across in such a grandiose and self important way. Just because YOU don't like social media is no reason to belittle others who choose to or find value in those mediums.
As to my opinion on the forum, it takes a little getting used to. In terms of suggestions, I miss the latest post previews that you could see before clicking a section. Can this be brought back?
