Overall, I like the changes, although I was fine with the old forum, too.

The one thing that really bugs me – and it may just be my own OCD or something – is how the icons are replaced by text when you hover over them on the main forum page. I find myself responding by rapidly moving the cursor back and forth to see what I missed. It's distracting. I'm not an expert, but I suspect it is also considered poor UI design to replace content with other content when it has focus.

I prefer the old design over this new one. The new one looks a lot more clean and modern (which is good), but it feels like it lacks... contrast? I imagine it would work/look a lot better if you added red in some places (between posts, for example).

I can tell you this for sure, Facebook and Twitter are garbage mass consumption time wasting social media platforms and seeing all online sites go to them as the defacto login option is a horrible idea. ESPN you can only sign on with those. Many of us realize that those platforms provide no value and avoid having them as part of our lives. Don't force it on us here too.

Logging in through those services isn't forced; it's optional. Also, Twitter is actually quite nice if you follow people you care about. :)

I appreciate the new design. But as a long time reader, I'm more impressed with the moral courage any kind of change to this forum requires. Let's be honest, MacRumors readers are a volatile bunch and who hasn't been impressed by the expressions of rage when iOS gets an updated font?

Still, it's a grand opportunity for all those people (you know who you are) whose eyes hurt/bleed whenever they see something just slightly new to let the world feel their pain.

Give some constructive criticism in your post:p. I like the new layout, it feels fresh and new. One thing I would change would be making the borders darker. It's a little hard on the eyes and would separate each comment better.

I agree. While I like the clean design, I feel that there is so much empty space, especially in comments with only one line, it gets to be a chore to scroll through all of them. I think they could still have the clean design but have it a bit more compact so there' not sooooooooo much empty space on each thread.

Launched. It's like coming out to your car in the morning. You can't find it because someone painted it a different color while you were sleeping. That's what this 'unannounced' change was like. You announce it before you do it, not after. This isn't actually news anymore!

MacRumors announced that it would be switching to XenForo over 7 months ago in November 2014.

See here: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/migrating-to-xenforo.1823418/

I think that is more than enough notice.

I like the new forum, looks very nice. It would be good if the design would be optimised and more compact, saving space and allowing more posts to be viewed without scrolling. Other than that, love the changes!

Actually the brighter the background and thinner the font, the greater the eyestrain. While this is the current design rage, it is actually a poor choice visually.
My eyes are on fire after a session with the new boards.

It pretty much destroyed all the sneaky custom code work users in Digital Photography had done to override the thumbnail quotes of images, but the current double click to view full size is actually more efficient. Some of us still like to be pirates.

I had to redesign my avatar, but that was, like 10 minutes work. Some of the extra options in notifications are a bit confusing like getting notices of all new posts in a thread instead of just quotes. I know there are tick boxes for those but I would have preferred them to be off by default instead of all on. I've seen the quick reply box in my model car forum so that's OK with me.

My main complaint is that it has an overall FaceBookish/Twitteree thing to it in terms of look and feel and I just don't do Social Media.

And I'd like to see more MacRumors, but I guess that's up to Apple.

EDIT: Just found the Toggle Width button in the bottom corner. That helps.

Too bright, too white. Can't focus my eyes on anything. Are you guys trying to give me a headache?
This new forum layout has horrible readability. Makes me want to double puke.
Some have a problem adjusting their eyes and some don't seem to bother. I wonde,r if this comes with different screens/resolutions, different devices, or maybe whether one wears glasses or not. I wear glasses and all the free floating elements on white background seem to distract somehow.
I feel like I have to squinny / squish my eye lids together. And the worst thing, one can't to anything about it. I have bent my laptop screen a bit backwards, so that it looks darker. Helps a very tiny little bit.
(funny the spell checker doesn't know "squinny")

Too much white space.

Data density is bad.
Exactly: data density. apart from getting used to all the white, I feel like I can only read one post at once and have to scroll for every other post and I already toggled the width on the bottom page.
I know I am not a normal person, but I really have problems to understand how twitter or facebook works (because nothing is clearly differentiated and self explaining for someone so stupid and "conservative" like me and now this forum got closer to the aesthetics of it, which interact with usability.

I've been here for a long time. I really like this update. It looks really nice.

Oh, and it's really nice to have an avatar finally!

Funny to read the first comments on the release of the iPod.
The design of the forum may have changed. The comments surely not!
