Nice overall design - but Not very adaptive. Looks massive on on my 2560 x 1600 what does it look like on a smaller or larger screen.

Zero width adaption wider than 1280- Bit 1999 that!
Look at my screenshot above. I use an ibook G4 12" with 1024x768.
And that is after toggling the width!

A poll asking for very specific like/dislike criteria and on which device would be perfect! The poll should be prominently placed on the home page, perhaps at the right and remain on top.

I find this new design very readable both with and without eyewear/correction, and on both my 6+, mbp15, and iMac 27.

my favorite quote from iPod discussion, 2001:

"David:

I really wanted to like it. Really. But do the math:
20GB hard drive: $199 from APS tech.

MP3 player: $50 from Best Buy.

You save $150 plus get an extra 15 Gig of storage!"

...lol. people still can't do nuance, it's all strict adherence to logic, or straight up plato's cave. i wonder if David is still lugging around his computer to listen to music on the fly.

I don't like it. What I liked most about the old one is how everything was visually bounded together, like you knew where each individual post was. Putting a border around posts would be a huge step forward.

Over the weekend, we launched a new version of the MacRumors Forums. Beyond a long overdue redesign, we also migrated to a new discussion platform called XenForo.

The MacRumors Forums have been running since 2001 and have over 800,000 members and 20,000,000 posts. We have discussions documenting the first iPod, the first iPhone and the death of Steve Jobs.

The move to a new software platform brings us a number of new features, including but not limited to:

- Responsive design
- Auto save text editor
- Social registration and login. Register with Facebook and Twitter.
- Notification system for replies, @mentions, quotes and likes.
- Improved security

The modern new design was carefully crafted by Audentio Design. We are listening to feedback and will be making ongoing tweaks. Please offer specific comments and questions in the site feedback forum or this article thread.

Now is also a great time to register for our forums. Logged-in users see fewer ads in the forums than guests, and can comment on news stories.

Existing users may have to login again if they haven't since the transition. All users are now allowed an avatar and existing avatars should be updated to the larger size now allowed. There are a small percentage of users who may have to reset their passwords due to the transition. Otherwise, we've migrated all existing accounts and posts into the new system. If you have a problem with your account, contact us through our contact form.

Thanks for the avatar.

I saw the new design this AM and thought I accidentally clicked on a new section instead of the forums and just closed the window. Then came back later and saw the new setup again and figure it out.

nice, I guess. I am not thrilled with it but I'll wait it out some and see.

You mean like I suggested? If it can be done by a user I would do it. What do you mean with "home page"? The address forums.macrumors.com where I see all the big items with small titles for all the subforums?

Could it be placed in the PRSI or current events, maybe? Maybe I'll start a poll there and if someone sees one of the several threads about the new forum style, one can post there and tell, that there is a poll buried somewhere in the "community discussions" -> "current events".

Or maybe put it here? -> macrumors.com news-discussion https://forums.macrumors.com/forums/macrumors-com-news-discussion.4/
Am I allowed to start a poll there as normal user? One could justify it by saying, that it is discussing the news, that there is a new forum style.

Apple TV is a Mac?

That's gonna make even *less* sense once this WWDC launch comes around...

While the update to the forum is nice, it’s still beyond me why they can’t implement a normal commenting system like Disqus or LiveFire for news posts.

Brave MacRumours!

I loved and have always loved vBulletin, but they screw over their loyal customers over and over again. You've made the right choice, congratulations MacRumors on a successful migration, not many can make it look so effortlessly.

The design is outstanding. It's more modern and more fun to type on. Browsing and reading isn't as nice though. The layout seems harder to process when browsing through the forums and scrolling through a page. Too busy looking and hard to quickly distinguish the components of someone's response box/name/status/buttons/signature/etc. Big step in the right direction though.

Here's my feedback.

Too much white on the sides doing nothing. Tone it down a bit. (Could use a dark mode).
In the quote notification center it's really difficult to go to the specific thread you were quoted in. Right now the only way to go there is to click on the title of the thread, which isn't highlighted or put in bold so it gets lost easily in the sentence. Make the whole box click-able.
The main forum page used to contain the thread with the newest reply. That's gone now. Would like to see it back, mainly because, well, every forum ever has that feature.
No down vote button? What?
Personally I find the letters in thread posts to be a little too slim.
The similar threads thing below each thread has threads in them that are mostly over 5 years old. Not really relevant anymore.

That's it for now.
