Hmm. Were major tweaks done last night/this morning? The site seems unresponsive at times. Editing windows not closing when you click on save for example. A little sluggish. (almost posted a reply twice to one of the threads, as my edit window was still there after I clicked Post Reply - opened another window, sure enough, my reply had been posted.

… harder to read through forums …

For me, ease was regained by hiding the worst of what's superfluous, repetitive and/or unnecessarily large.

Now, with fewer distractions, there remains a question: How to add get more then 25 post per page? – some thoughts.

… a few extra clicks to get to where you want to go. …

A concern about numbers of clicks was raised on the first day of open testing, with attention to search routines: https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/21309405

The user interfaces to searches gained significant improvements around the time of migration.

Thoughts (2015-06-11 – moved by me from https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/21443469)

Primarily to designers and site administrators …

Reasonably high priority to enhancements to the site that will allow readers to have fewer distractions. (The recent improvements to https://forums.macrumors.com/account/preferences are noted with thanks.) Plus equal or greater priority to problems that cause disorientation.

High as in, make those enhancements/fixes sooner rather than later. Then eventually, things such as the number of posts per page may cease to be a concern.

Are some of you guys using iPhones or iPads to read the forums or something? It really looks more or less the same readability-wise here on Firefox. I have NO IDEA what some of you are whining about constantly.

No, desktop. To me it's like Windows 8.1. It's prettier than 7 but it doesn't do what it's supposed to do any better which is be an operating system. Some people will like it (like you) and others won't. I love change and new things, especially design but you must always keep your core business in the forefront which in this case is a forum. Reading, searching, and writing. Writing is more pleasant, searching is more or less the same but reading is more difficult in this format. It's just an opinion. Not sure what the comment "NO IDEA some of you are whining about constantly" - seems childish especially in theme change and new platform thread. It would also be highly egotistical to think a new platform can be redesigned and it's perfect right out of the gates. It's a great starting point and needs some work.

Ghosts of deleted content

… you can delete the draft …

GREAT idea! …

If more options were used, with or without a preview, then the logical next step is bugged.

Actions

01) at https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/21453174

02) click REPLY

03) More Options…

04) save then delete the draft

05) browse back

Expected

06) no trace of what was deleted

Actual result

06) in the 'Post Reply' field, representation of the deleted content

Workaround

07) reload the page

Sorry guys... Been using the new forum all week and it's not "better". I love the layout and the fonts. It's really pretty - OS X style but it's not a better forum experience. I find myself wanting to spend less and less time on here because it's harder to read through forums - the primary purpose is the forum. It was nice when the spy feature loaded up an entire page and you could read through it. Now you have to wait and there's too much information to read quickly. It's also more time consuming to get to the different areas. It looks better organized but then it takes a few extra clicks to get to where you want to go.

Here's to hoping more forum friendly changes are in the works. Cheers.

I think there is some deal about the new "forum spy" not being as robust as the old forum. I think they are working on tweaking this. As I never used it, I guess I don't know what I was missing.

Overall, my primary complaint is limits in the number of posts displayed on a page and the number of of threads listed in a forum index page. The magic number is 100. :) It gives you a better look at recent posts without having to flip back through pages. I understand this is being worked on. I believe my other complaint, turning url images into attachments (without having to download the image to your computer first) is also being worked on.

Other than that, I find the new forum to be a great step forward. It's much easier to navigate around using an iPad. I use both an iPad and my MBP.

If only life's problems were reduced to this.

The forum is great. Move on. Adapt. :D

I'm very adaptable, but that does not mean we have to accept some backward steps if they can be addressed and corrected. The purpose is of this thread is to critique the new software which most of the comments in this thread are doing, bringing up valid points and preferences, what MRs asked for.

I'm glad you are happy with it as is. I've all ready said its a great move forward.

100 post pages would be great.

Off topic: I like your avatar. Are the Ice Age films good? I've seen the trailers, and like the humour in them.

The first three are good! Scrat is a great character and I fell in love with him in the first short they showed along with the original movie, although for the most part he is a side show from the main story. Sid is good, although somewhat annoying. Manny plays the straight guy/mammoth. :)

Thanks! I'm sold.

I don't like that you can't see when someone replying to the thread is the thread starter. It used to be highlighted.
Yes please bring this back. It's so contextually important to know who the OP is, especially in multi page discussions.

While only a temporary fix, I tried AutoPagerize using Tampermonkey in Safari and it works with multi page threads quite okay.

Try "Watched Threads" to view only recent posts you're watching and "New Posts" for recent posts in all forums. You shouldn't need to look back at old posts unless you forgot something. As for 100 posts per page, that's way too many. The page loads would take nearly 4x longer and I'd be scrolling forever (and it would be 10x worse on an iPhone or iPod Touch as there isn't much space and certainly the older iPod Touch 4G crashes enough as it is seeing how little memory Apple gave it for so many modern pages (not here) that insist on coating 2/3 your screen with constant unending advertisements which you can't block on a non-jailbroken iOS device). 25 is darn near perfect for a full size browser, IMO.

Did the old forums let you set how many per page as I don't recall having more than 25 posts per page then either (assuming it was the default as I don't recall changing it). I don't know why newer forum versions would give you less features to choose from, but then again, just look at Apple!

This has nothing to do with the new software, but I would love a gallery link at the beginning of a thread that shows all the images posted in it.

This would be amazing for lengthy wallpaper threads, or "show off your new device" threads.

I noticed that due to the zoom level of the forum in Safari on a desktop computer, the EDIT and REPORT options get thrown together in a TOOL button, like shown below:

Screen Shot 2015-06-14 at 05.26.56.png

Is that due to the responsive layout for mobile devices?

And what about the icon for the Quick Navigation Menu (Styles - "MR Forums style" - Style Property Group - Breadcrumb - Jump Menu Trigger), can that icon be a bit bigger and easier recognizable, seeing as one can use a custom PNG for it and define its width and height?
