are there any US gatherings by chance? For those of us without passports haha

So get a passport then :p.

There are some Macrumors members in New York who might well come so if you arranged a picnic thread for New York there's a good chance of it happening ;).

I'm almost certainly coming to this in London btw.

I feel I may try and come to this, it'd be nice to meet some likeminded people that don't actually hate macs! :)

I love the city and I love Macs, so why not combine both?

Why not indeed? It's usually a chilled-out sort of day, just loafing around, drinking and eating, listening to music... playing football badly.

I think you should. :)

I'm doing an Inter Rail around Europe and I'm starting in London, so that I can go to the picnic!!!! :D

Excellent. I'm jealous of the Inter Rail ticket too. We'll see you there. :)

Keep track of this thread as we'll be posting maps and so forth in 2-3 months time once we've managed to do a little exploring first. Wherever we eventually choose to hold it, it will be very easy to get to.

As it goes it looks like I'm dragging my friend as well who is a new recruit to the mac world :D

Darned it, if it were only 1 month later, I might have had an excuse to sneak away from my sister-in-laws pre wedding stuff in reading and even have a sneaky visit to an apple store or 2.

On travelling around Europe I have a few tips (as I've just travelled around the world.)

1. Buy earplugs. They are useful for the flight and noisy dorms.
2. See less cities and spend more time in each place. In cities like London and Paris you could easily spend 5 full days (or maybe more.) without getting bored.
3. I remain to be convinced of the value of the Interail pass. €11/day is a lot of money for rail travel in Europe (except the UK. As an example Prague-Vienna is €29.) especially if you follow point 2 - I don't know why the seat61 guy recommends it as he usually proves to be very solid. Of course if you've already bought it don't worry. It's not that bad a deal.
4. Get an oyster card for London at heathrow if you can as otherwise you pay 3x more and get the smart card for other metros if you can figure out how to get the card refunded when you leave the city as they make travelling much easier.
5. Keep your valuables safe. Don't put your passport and other valuables in your pocket but keep them under your clothes.

Sounds like the perfect opportunity to try out the new MMS location sending in iPhone 3.0 :D

I may well pop over for a few hours. Should be fun.

Awesommme!!

what would be fun would set up a mini generator in the park, and have some mac pro server malarky going on.. we could be the apple store mobile.. or just play games or sommat i dunno..

now that im done being a geeeek.. yep i will be there :)

^ That depends on your definition of fun. :p In the past I think the geekiness is typically kept to a minimum, but nothing is ruled out. Laptops have made appearances but mostly it's just the iPod speaker thingy for tunes and other random typical and non-typical picnic activities. :D

sorry was using the term fun very very very loooossely.. :) i will just bring my ipod nano along thats all i will need

hmmmm

We have, on occasion, had multiple bags.

Skips?? Quavers?? i wanna know what im getting in for!!? heh nah i jest :)

cakes?? jaffa cakes??

btw.. do we have to go round introducing ourselves with our aliases from MR forums?? that would be weird lol
