I just purchased my first Nano, and picked up a Nike+ kit while I was at it. Thanks to the original MR running club thread I decided to try the beginner's program from runnersworld magazine, and am now working up to the 30 minutes continuous run mark. I just need to figure out how to jury-rig a holder for my non-Nike shoes. A search of the forum ought to shed some light...

BTW, the new Nano is a product red 8GB model, the little brother of my 20GB 4G model. It's beautiful.

congrats on the new ipod! good choice.

glad to see you're running as well. yeah, just search the forum for a rig. there's plently around here. i actually got some new nike shoes which i like a lot.

hopefully you'll join our little challenge....hopefully this won't be our only one

Here's a list of 10 options to get you started.

Thanks Flowbee, I found your site on the first page of the thread. It's a nice resource. I went this morning for the first time, and just tucked the sensor under my laces. It worked fine, but I'll choose a more sturdy solution soon. How should I go about joining the club (I've got a whole 2.3 miles to add ;))? My Nike+ username is the same as my MR one, keeps things easier.

yeah, i've lost a sensor running like that.

as far as joining, i think 'liketom' has to add you. and i think he needs your email address, but i'm not sure

awww come on. 4 miles a day isn't too bad. and actually i'll be taking a few days off this coming week.

i also do some walking. every little bit helps
*curses* You were supposed to take a few days off this week... ;)

Not sure if anyone's noticed this yet, but there are widgets available on Nikeplus.com for tracking your goals and challenges. I've posted a short write-up on my site.

I ran, but had to walk the last 30 minutes because I got completely stiff. I've had similar runs twice earlier (17km and 23km). Why would I cheat.

well if you look at the overall leaderboard, clearly people have figured out a way to cheat.

i'm just saying that it looked kinda suspicious....and it does. clearly you don't do that very often

No, because after I do that I'm drained much more than usual for the next two days. I can't do it every day. Maybe every third or fourth day, at least until I get in better shape.

i'm curious.....how old are you, if you don't mind me asking?

29... and I just started running again after a two year break. I used to run half marathons without much fanfare during normal exercise. Well, I did get similarly drained for the next couple of days.

Oh, and in case you wonder. My running pace is and has always been very slow. Around 10 mins per mile, and since I just started running again I walk a bit every 5 minutes because my legs hurt and walking helps to give them some variation, so my average pace when running is around 11:30 mins per mile. The slow pace lets me go on for several hours.

interesting.....i think i would get bored

Yeah, it gets a bit boring after two hours, but the endorphins that are released after I've been going for about 45 mins are a bit like a drug. The next hour or so is pure joy... then fatigue starts setting in and it's all a matter of making it back home.

yeah, i bet it'd be boring....but at least you get to enjoy the scenery....i really don't get to that much

wow gekko513. Those are some seriously impressive runs. You must have a lot of spare time to fit in multi hour runs. I envy you. I barely have enough time after work for dinner, to catch up on the news, and a few lame posts on here for me to squeeze in a 45 min run before bed.

Moved up to 8th today. Only a couple miles behind 7th.

Anyone know if its safe to exercise after giving blood? I'm doing that tomorrow, so if I can't run, I won't have another chance until the weekend most likely which is kind of a bummer.

I wonder how people can cheat, but more importantly I'm still waiting for an invite. It'll be like Christmas morning when I do get it...I feel ousted!

well everyone is different. i would probably run after giving blood, but my body is probably different than yours.

you just gotta know you're body, and if you do run, pay attention to yourself and be prepared to stop early

good luck

Thanks. I quit work at the end of September and since then, the only thing on my schedule has been studying for an exam that I had last week. (6th of Dec, the day I didn't run last week). Now, I have nothing on my schedule except the Nike+iPod challenge. ;)

I don't know about exercising after giving blood. You could ask them when you do it tomorrow, or I could call my marathon running friend who also gives blood and ask. He'll probably know.

Amazingly, I didn't feel drained from yesterday on my jog today, so I did another long distance run. Around 20km in 2 hours and 26 minutes.

I thought that was me but looks like I am your next target at 6th, I've had 5 days off due to over doing it by running and playing a full soccer game in one day! Too much for me!

So I'm going to go out tonight and see if I can put some clear miles between myself and rickvanr .....AND have a go at hitting the top 5 so MRemw is my target!

twoodcc: Have you stopped running, or have you just not uploaded your runs the last couple of days?
