Thanks alot. I think i'll have to stick to walking. This is the second neck surgery in 30 days and I am just hoping it heals this time around. It's no longer about how great it looks...though the plastic surgeon will say different.

I appreciate your motivation :)

yeah there's nothing wrong with walking. and you can still upload data from walking. i hope it heals well this time also....good luck with your recovery....i hope it's a good and fast one :)

you're welcome :)

true there - I walk/run the dog to the park everyday. I end up getting an extra mile or so on my stats. I've run races with my dog before and I'm hoping to get her back up to doing a few miles.

guess i need to start using the sensor on my twice daily walks to/from the metro then eh? ;)

bigprince- 10 minute miles are not very slow. especially not for someone who's just getting (back) into running. i've been running off and on, and playing soccer and basketball regularly for months now and i still maintain a just under 10 minute/mi pace when i'm actually running (when i average in the walking it tops 10 min/mi)... so just keep at it and don't expect to get down to 6' miles too quickly!

If you're listening to your iPod, why not. :D The farthest I've run with the dog is 2 miles so far and we did it around 20 minutes or so. I'd love to be able to bring her into a 5k so day :D

hey, every .mile counts......:)

20 minutes for 2 miles with your dog isnt bad....you'll be doing a 5k with her in no time

Several years ago we ran in the Penn. Ave 1 Miler - they have about 15 different 1 mile races on Penn. Ave in DC and we mangaged a 6' 08" mile and came in 4th. We could have come in 3rd, but I didn't want to crowd the finish line and pass the guy and dog ahead of us. She pulled me a bit at first but I was pulling her at the end.

Anyone fancy a quickest 5k race? I don't mind being in charge of it.. :) I'll set one up if enough people are interested.

6'08" isn't bad with a dog. that's how it is with my dog, he starts off pulling me, and i end up pulling him..

that might be a good idea, but it seems that we should do that after this challenge is over? or we could do 2 at once if everyone wants too.....

Why not just list your fastest 5k? I've never used the Nike+ so it might be nicer, but it seems simpler to simply do a post your fastest 5k (or 10k, HM, M...)

Since you've not used the Nike + you haven't been involved in challenges, that's what makes it interesting. You can list your best here if you like, but this whole thread is for the Nike+ challenge anyway. You can compete against yourself and others....

well the point is to challenge you to do something now, not what you've done in the past. we could list our fastest 5k's, that'd be interesting too, but a challenge is also good.

but this does have a disadvantage.....you can't really run as fast with an ipod

my fastest is 16:35 .....not with an ipod

Speaking of personal bests........
Are the "My Records" stats correct on the Nike+ site?
My fastest mile says one thing, but i can find a faster mile in my individual runs.
There is no way to see which run its talking about.

believe me, that's very good. i've yet to break 30.....

thanks. you could break 30 if you really wanted to .....(with some work of course)

not quite sure. the sight is supposed to be right though. but neither my nano or my site is right......within a run i ran i know under 5:30 (5:21 to be exact) and it still says my best is 6:32 on my nano and 5:57 on the site

believe me, that's not that good.....i've run with some people that run under 15:00

I ran in a race where the winners were in the 12's - that sick.

I never ran 5k at my peak, but the first 3 miles of a 10k I was under 18' - I couldn't keep that pace, unfortunately.

D

This weekend I ran twice outside in the afternoon with a friend and it was wonderful. Tuesday and Wednesday I went back to the treadmill in the evenings and it was brutal.

So I've come to the conclusion I won't be overly upset when the snow melts and the sun stays up past 5:30.

and i'm sure that they weren't running with an ipod.....the top times on the nike+ website cannot be real....someone ran 1000 miles in one week....

that's not back for the first 3 miles of a 10k

in college we usually run 8k (sometimes 10k)....i've split 16:06 for 3 miles of my 8k before.....and i couldn't keep the pace either....

hey i'm hoping for sleet here tonight and the morning....hopefully we'll get out of class :)

but i know what you mean.....it's hard to run in the cold.....but you gotta do what you gotta do.....

I've not really had issues with running with the ipod - it doesn't slow me down.

As for the 10k - I wish I had run a few 5k back then (20 years ago). I'd have come in on the top 10 in a few - that would be quite cool. No way that's happening now. I'm just hoping to get under 20 this year if I can.

trust me, you can run faster without an ipod.....

hey....you can get under 20.....just keep working....

Well this thread is making me want to get a Nike+ so I can join in on the excitement. It's only $30, and the nano is small enough that I could stick it in a pocket or hold it. It would also be interesting to compare GPS to Nike+ We'll see.

My best road race 5k: 19:00
and on a cross country course: 18:23
