Exactly my thought.

The so called "Early Adopters" must either have money to burn or keep forgetting that one should never buy the first generation of an Apple product.

Many times prices drop, features are added and the kinks get removed within the first 6 months.

So, WAITING is key for me.

I really don't understand this. When have early adopters been so unfortunate, that you can say with such certainty never to adopt early?

Technology products improve often, nothing wrong with that.

How about: won't buy one but here's for hoping they release the new Mac Pro's as soon as the ipad release hype settles down..

No. Bought this:

acer-aspire-one-netbook.jpg

It's like an iPad, but with a keyboard. And a SDHC slot. A camera. 3 USB ports.

There should be an option for both wifi and 3g, which is what I've ordered.

For the iPads Apple has listed:
Location
* Wi-Fi
* Digital compass
* Assisted GPS (Wi-Fi + 3G model)
* Cellular (Wi-Fi + 3G model)

What I want to know first before I decide is if that "Assisted GPS" and "Cellular" modes listed for the 3G device a) Give me much better location awareness (I'm sure this is a yes) and b) Will they work without having a current paid access to the AT&T 3G network.

Meaning that if I bought one of the 3G devices and then purchased a GPS program for it, would I have to have paid 3G access in order to use the thing when I'm away from any Wi-Fi nodes even when I have all the needed maps loaded onto the device.

If I can get the better location awareness with the 3G model without a paid plan I'll go with 3G as I like the better option for that and I can see the 3G coming in handy sometimes. If not then I'll spend the extra cash to get more storage on a WiFi only model.

No...just can't justify it in its current state. I wouldn't mind getting one for free tho :p

As others have mentioned - no final UK date - just late April. Oh and a price that is so good it's unbelievable :)

My wife is buying me one for our anniversary in august. (She gets a wedding ring upgrade) so I do not care about being an early adopter. I can always sell the first gen on ebay and get at least half for it and then upgrade to gen 2.

An option is missing:"Waiting for the 2d generation iPad"

Except no one would do that because we'll know in the first couple of weeks if there is any problem with the first generation and there are no details on what the 2nd generation will include.

Maybe you mean wait for a camera?

I'm not buying unless someone hacks it to run either OSX or Windows.
The price is just too high for a device that I don't know what to do with. If I was a student I might have bought one and used it instead of a laptop but I'm not so the main thing I would have used it for was to watch movies and run bittorrent etc... But that's not really possible with iPhoneOS, atleast not in the way you can do it on a laptop. I honestly don't see why people would buy this when Hanvon and HP is realeasing full windows 7 tablets that will be able to do so much more than the ipad.

Am I getting an iPad?

Well, no, not right now. If my MacBook ever dies, I'll consider an iPad (as long as the wife agrees to it!)

Its a pretty cool product, but it would be redundant right now. I think it would be a great device to sit in front of the TV with or to watch movies on (if my kids ever give me time to watch movies, that is). Also, reading newspapers would be amazing on the iPad I bet. I think newspapers and books are going to do really well, as well as the new Netflix app.

No plans as of yet but I have seen myself warming to the idea of getting one. It looks like a solid little device.

Count me as a Maybe! :p

For an obvious first-generation product, I'm not going to go all out and spend a ton of cash on 3G + data plan only knowing I'm going to sell it to upgrade next year with a model that has a webcam (and hopefully Verizon network).

Plus, if I really need internet access, I have my iPhone.

Actually, I'm thinking of getting a Novatel MiFi 2372 and just swapping my iPhone SIM card into it for when I'd rather use my iPad for data. But $250 is a tough pill to swallow. =/

I want to meet the guy/girl who rates these posts as Negative. I don't get it. Nonetheless, I ordered the 32GB w/ 3G and patiently waiting for a shipment notification. Got one this morning and nearly screamed -- too bad it was only for the dock that I ordered.

really?
No camera?
Heavy handed overbearing application approval process?

Are you really shocked that some of us are not thrilled with this?

I am a huge apple fan... have owned them since 1984.
iPod
iPhone
macbook
desktop

I am a big fan.

But I did not wait 5 years for a mac tablet that was nothing more than an iTouch on sterroids.

(btw... I did not rate this story one way or another)

It's $130 total you'd be paying for 3G. There is no obligation to get a data plan. And it's not really a "plan". It's a month by month service. You can have none, limited, or unlimited for any or all months of your choosing.

I'm not getting 3G because I want to develop for it ASAP. :) Maybe later.

I'm not buying one (at least no plans right now) because I own a portable (MB 5,1) and an iPod Touch. If I owned neither, say an iMac, I would consider the iPad as a mobile device. -GDF

I work at home on my iMac, and I've been thinking that I should get a Laptop, so I can bring it along to client meetings and demo websites and show off artwork. It would also be nice to work on the train, surf the net and maybe do some light work on the go. I think an iPad could work for me!
