I like the fact that the back seems to be also made of glass. So we got glass front and glass back and metal side - highly highly scratch resistance.

Not to mention the design should appeal more to the corporate market.

Anyone else looking at their iPhone right now, and thinking how it looks more like a prototype than the 'new' one?

Clearly.

That's crap... It's so obvious that that will never be released. Apple just had their designers make somthing fast to throw us off. But there is no way on earth that that is the final iPhone 4G. I mean look at it... That looks like a cheap droid design. Not apple, I'll put all my money on it. Heck... I'll put money on it I don't even have.

I hope so, too. On the other hand, I was certain Apple wouldn't take a backward step from the Nano iPod chubby that fit the hand perfectly and go with the leaked Nano that you had to hold sideways in front of your face to see the screen… but they did.

HTC phones look slicker than this, so either Ive is on sabbatical or it's a generic prototype shell to be formed into something more Apple-like later on.

It should be clear to rumour watchers that Apple carefully crafts leaks to build hype. Witness absolutely no rumours about iPhone until after iPad and iPhone OS 4 were released. Now, it's on for young and old, and anyone who wishes to contribute to Apple's hype machine.

Remember when everyone was certain that the iPad was the iSlate, even though Borders called it an iPad in their customer survey in August last year? Just enough hype to get the PC industry off track for CES — they all showed Slates. And this has a similar smell—Apple originated disinformation.

I like how originally, everyone hated it when it was presumed to be fake. Now that it's nearly certainly real, everyone loves the thing. Just goes to show that this website is just an outlet for rampant fanboyism, rather than smart consumerism.

I liked it as soon as I saw it in those first blurry pics ;p

But I did notice this too... Just compare how many "Positive" vs. "Negative" reactions there were to the original post on MR, compared to the ratio for this news post. I'm sure part of that has to do with the quality of the photos, but mostly I think you're right about it coming from fanboyism.

Back glass

Isn't the big news here that the next iPhone will have a multi touch back? Why else would it have a flat 'glass' back?

Can anyone confirm that it is multi touch?

I was one of the people who said "well duh" on the first post to "is it a fake?"

And I still haven't changed my mind in the capacity that I'm still incredulous that Apple would release something so fugly.

It just goes against everything that Apple has been working toward in the latest years with the iPhone. It's not very sleek, looks very 2006, absolutely not original, and certainly not practical. :-/

I'm even more pissed about the fact that I need a new iPhone soon and my plan expires in August so I was going to get the new iPhone. Now I don't know what I'm going to do...

The gaps in this are just like the gas in the macbook pros (around the screen bezel) they allow for added durability when dropped while still functioning afterwards.

Multi touch on rear

I hope you're right... That would be an amazing feature.

Wasn't there an article on MacRumors a little while ago detailing a patent for a multi touch rear? I think the patent made it look like the screen was transparent and that you interacted with the rear rather than the front??

Multi touch rear has got to be a definitely. Maybe??

I really think it's super sexy looking. The only I would do is make the Apple logo the Camera Flash if I were designing it, otherwise this thing is pretty bad ass and I will definitely be first in line :)

It's starting to grow on me.. However, since I purchased a 3GS on release, I will have to wait until next year to upgrade my iPhone, hopefully there will be an even better one out then!

It's funny how yall' opinion changes when the post is declared "official."

Maybe it, just maybe, it was another case of whiners whining, while the people who liked it didn't feel the need to repeatedly spam all threads about a possible new iPhone?

I like the new design, I even like it when I saw the blurry Engadget photos - it takes the iPhone in a slimmer less toy-like, more functional direction in my opinion...

Just for kicks I thought I would see what this would look like with a wider aluminum bezel that went around the glass more:

iphone4bezel.jpg

I could imagine this sort of change by WWDC, maybe with a bit of bevel to the aluminum.

Remember that this phone was found a month ago, and was probably built a while before that, so we could be looking at pictures of a phone built four months or even longer before the launch.

...not to mention that ridiculous backside that does not enable a proper grip, but a mere "grasp" of the phone. Never understood or cared for all that prior design, it looked cheap anyway...

I agree that the new design looks more mature and attractive, but your comment regarding grasping and gripping just doesn't make sense. I know really loads and loads of people that have the iPhone (I have one too), and I have never heard a complaint that people cannot "hold" it or that it's uncomfortable to hold. I also have a blackberry and it isn't more or less comfortable than the iPhone..

Intersting try. I don't think this will happen though, because it optically makes the iPhone look thicker than the "real" one, and we all know how Apple uses optical "illusions" to make stuff look thinner than they are: Macbook Air, iPhone 3G(S), iPad etc..

I can see (hope) the seams disappearing, but I think the size of the aluminium bezel is here to stay.

poor guy , he lost his job because he lost a phone.

the design is so sony ericsson, i used to own a phone that look like that.

I love it!

I think it looks great! I'm still using the original Edge iPhone coz I didn't like the rounded cheap plastic of the G3 and G3S so this will make me upgrade as soon as its released. The seams don't bother me either, they are probably needed for manufacturing and in my opinion, as this prototype is so well finished, they will stay on the final product. They could also be used for locating add ons. Also, I said back in Feb that the next iPhone would have edge to edge glass so I'm glad to be proved right - again.

There is absolutely no evidence for multi-touch on the back. This is clearly evident from Gizmodo's photos. Besides, a glass back isn't even a necessity for multi-touch.

Why so, do you ask have they gone with this Material? Maybe it's because of the bitching about the use of plastic after the original, the fact that it feels like a classier material and doesn't have any of the RF issues of metal.

He would still be better off than the foxxcon employee who lost the phone.

I like the 'rocker' volume control on the current ipod touch. Wonder how separate buttons will be?
