I can't wait to upgrade my first generation iphone to this thing. I actually think it looks really good, though I'd prefer no seams and an alu back. Happy to compromise for better reception and battery life. Other than that I'm really glad the stupid chrome frame is gone and I always though the plastic of the 3g and 3gs was ugly and cheap looking. I love it. Is it as 'ergonomic' as the older ones? probably not as comfortable to hold since it's flat and square, but I don't think any of the iphones are comfortable to hold without a good case so I don't see how it will make a difference. I can barely keep my 1st gen iphone in my hand -- it slips all over the place.

Finally.

Apple decided to make a phone, instead of these "toys" they've been coming up with the past few years. I've simply refused to buy iPhones because they simply look like jokes and playthings, not to mention that ridiculous backside that does not enable a proper grip, but a mere "grasp" of the phone. Never understood or cared for all that prior design, it looked cheap anyway.

Will definitely be buying this. The iPhone finally grew up.

Not likely...

You know what, I love it. The fact that is a lot compact than the original is better, but I think that with today's technology it seems a little chunky and square, why not make the illusion as Apple always do with the iMacs, small at the corners and fat in the middle to create a more slick device?

It looks different, but it doesn't look as Apple innovative kind of different. Anyway it was time to change and bring a new device that create another standard.

It is possible that this device is the long time rumored iPhone Nano? the limited version open to the others carriers?

I would imagine that a nano would have to be significantly smaller than a regular iPhone to earn such a moniker.

It looks very un-Apple like to me. I definitely don't hate it, but it is very plain, run of the mill looking like so many other bar-form smart phones out there. Nothing really sets it apart from anything else that's out right now.

It just looks uncomfortable to hold. And how do you tell the difference between the front and the back just by holding it? The body is symmetrical in every dimension.

Apple made this revolutionary device called the home button... not to mention, one side has a shiny :apple: logo.... jus sayin.... think.

there is a reason most of you are NOT professional designers, industrial or otherwise.

Most of you only like what you are familiar with.

that new design is sweet...and again, design is not just looks.

It's not thickness that makes radius good, it's width. Flip your phone over to where the screen is against your palm. It's the WIDTH of the phone that makes you feel the edges and want a radius.

According to Gizmodo, the width of this phone is about 1/10 inch less than the current ones. Not sure if that's what the other poster meant, but it goes to the basic point that this phone may not need a curved back as much for ergonomics.

i'll be posting a list of those who gave a definitive "this is not the next iPhone" and acted like a total douche to anyone who thought it might be. :apple::apple::apple:

I still believe this is NOT THE NEXT IPHONE. You'd be amazed what the tech factories in China can cook up. After all where do you think iPhones are made?

And has anyone seen this thing turned on yet?

Physical keyboard is on the way.

I'm a huge fan of the iPhone, and my only complaint is the fact that there is no physical keyboard...tactile feedback would make this phone perfect...

Physical keyboard is on the way. OS 4.0 allows for Bluetooth keyboard connectivity so any third party can make a snap on BT slideout keyboard or incorporate it into a case.

My prediction: Apple will sell a slide out keyboard accessory that will fit perfectly against the flat back of the new iPhone, hence the loss of a curved back.

I think the upgrades are all good, but the glass on the front is too close to the edge. Drop that once and it's done. How will they get a protective case to stay on with sharp edges on the screen? I don't know, call me realistic?

I'm very surprised the majority likes this design.

Kinda defeats the unibody mantra of Apple, doesn't it?

planned media leak

Exactly. Free publicity.

I wouldn't be surprised if Jobs was reading all of this as we babble on about the new iPhone. Probably jotting down some notes as he goes along...

What better way to get customer response?

again, design is not just looks.

Ummm.... am I in the right forum? It might not be all, but usually Apple takes looks pretty seriously. Compare this thing to the magic mouse, Macbook pro, iPad....

I hope the case is just temporary and the real one will be more sexy like the existing. Nice smooth design like the rest of their products - this thing is starting to look like some boring Android product.

This would be the first Apple product that deviates from their typical eye catching drool inducing design.

Here's hoping this is fake or just a temporary case.

The rest of the specs seem ok.... although I was expecting a bigger screen.

Slide out keyboard = BS, don't need one, even as an option.

For sure its some kind of knock-off. The whole design is completely un-Apple, and it resembles many of the knock offs already on the market. I don't understand why everyone is falling for it. This is not Apple's design at all.

If this was "real," why wouldn't Apple Legal request to remove this?

Because even it might be a legal case, it will be against the person that allegedly lost it.
And it might be that they release it on purpose as a distractor to keep the 2010 :apple: buzz...iPad...iPhone OS4....new MBP....new fake iPhone Hardware...

god or bad press...it's free advertisement.

The day Apple decide to put a QWERTY keyboard on the iPhone, that's the day I stop upgrading.

You might have called the purpose of flat back... nice. However, it could be a method for conductive charging. Or it could be to waste less space thereby making it thinner. Or it could reflect gloss better - we all know Steve likes the products to be super thin, lightweight, and super glossy! This looks like it will sparkle from a distance. I am surprised they don't cover it with glass that looks like diamonds sparkling, joking.
