These days it seems most posts are useless "me too" ... posts.

this is like when you were a kid and your mom marked your height on the wall then goes "aww look how much you've grown... it just seems like yesterday..."

Congratulations MR. I'm proud to have contributed at least 6 or 7 quality posts to that total.

Yes, but how many of those 4,000,000 posts are actually worth reading? These days it seems most posts are useless "me too" or "I'm getting out my credit card" posts. Usually, out of a 10 page thread there are only 3 or 4 intelligent posts. It's getting so bad that I'm starting to skip reading the threads entirely.

I think part of the problem is the insanely high post count required to change status here. People are just posting any crap that comes into their head just to raise their post counts.

I agree it can be a drag sifting through the repetitive nothingness but those posts mean something to the contributors that make them. In fact the "intelligent" ones are probably useless to more people than the "me too" ones.

All in all the tone of the site is brilliantly easy going and I love it despite having to trawl through the crap, and admittedly submitting the odd peice of crap myself.

Cheers All.

I think the popularity is largely due to Macrumors concatonating from other sources and ranking their accuracy, thus adding value. That attracts the smarter and more motivated posters and contributors and the resulting good CONTENT attracts the lurkers.

Also Dr. Q's various avatars are a sight to behold. As we see today, timely too. Where's the thread just showing them one after another?

A video I posted to Google videos and linked to MR about the first AppleTV commercial was ranked 3 nationally as a result.

Rocketman

I'm sure I speak for many when I raise my glass of Tequila and say thanks to all the administrators, moderators, etc. for the hard work done to make this site the excellent destination that it is.

You drink that stuff straight?!?! Holy crap! ;)

Looking at the graph makes me think of the # of iTunes song purchases graph that came out a few days ago. Well, shape wise, MR has a long way to go to get to 3 billion...

wow, i'd completely forgotten i turned up before a million posts :)

congrats to all, especially our resident post whore™ mad jew on the new milestone. let's hope it doesn't all break down and head in to "me too" and one word posts. i'll continue to do my bit for that by, as devilot pointed out, clicking the little report post button :)

would it be a good idea to also mention to everyone to keep up to date on the forum rules? i've certainly noticed a few more breaches of them regularly

I've been a reader - and occasional poster - here for a long time, but I must say I don't know much about the report button. I'd be surprised if I was the only one. Maybe a link to the rules of when, why and how of reporting would be useful. I tried to click the FAQ/Rules button but, for some reason, it doesn't seem to work at the moment.

$ I've never been able to access the forum rules, and didn't know what the little guy was all about either = me too!
