I hope that the people doing the work that Ives gets credit for don't see that cake - if they do we might see another wave of Flower Power and Dalmation Imacs!

Those blue roses in particular give me the shivers....

Congratulations MR! Thanks for doing a great service to the Mac community, you guys rock. Keep on keepin on :)

i just wanna say thankyou to all of the volunteers, especially ARN! they devote their spare (and working) hours to keep the site going. this forums is getting bigger and bigger, that many people rely on it for their news.

i think the next step is to bring a short 15min tv (postcast??) show called MRN (MRNews) that highlights all of the latest news for the week.. haha, or maybe not...

thank you MR and all mods. you ROCK!

Well, we are on page 5 of the congratulations, I'd like to put in my two pennies.

I love the site! I visit 2 - 3 times a day, more on those busy Tuesdays and Apple Events. I love the news/rumors and love to read the commentary the forums give in relation to those rumors. When I have a question, I don't hesitate to ask it on the forums because most everyone here will answer quickly and politely.

THank you MacRumors and Thank You Community!

P.S. Keep the clean web design...and if you change it, keep it clean! :)

Yes, but how many of those 4,000,000 posts are actually worth reading?
You don't know until you read them. And what you find interesting might not be what someone else finds interesting.

This is all relative anyway: the 4,000,000 has to be compared to other forums and the number of posts they have - with the same spread of different types of posts. It's not an absolute. It's not something like this. :D

Just wanted to say, I've been a very long-time reader and new poster, but even us quiet folk appreciate all the effort that goes into this site. Rock on guys!

After Jan 2004, spymac basically said to its members that it was more important to grow in size thanks to their new 1GB email service rather than keeping the community that was. I had lots of fun and interesting times there, but after their "version 3" launched, the community was gone. We had lots of spammers come in and most of the old users left. Some of the best we had couldn't take it anymore. Since then, they have launched a Myspace/Youtube hybrid looking site which has essentially taken spymac out of the mac community for good. It isn't even a mac site, anymore. The forums are still there somewhere, but last time I checked, the most recent threads were from June.

It's sad that the owners got greedy and ruined one of the best mac community on the net from 2002-2004. I racked up 10,000 posts there before I left. Now, no one I know is there.

SpyMac was the first Mac community site I joined after I got my iBook. I remember joining because it had forums, email, and an RSS feed on the front page that could monitor all the other Mac sites. Then they started trying to be .Mac only better and I stopped visiting when they got all fancy with the login. You not only had a password but had to verify pictures and on top of all that it just became hard to navigate. The rumors and news seemed to get posted a day after being posted elsewhere and they were "encouraging" everyone to become a paid member. The SpyMac webmail still works though. And it even supports advanced features on Firefox now.

I started visiting MacRumors in March of this year, after abandoning Apple only sites, mainly because its the only rumor site I need to visit. Anything worthy from ThinkSecret or AppleInsider gets posted here and the forums are pretty on point too. Then there's the buying guide. The ads aren't leaping into your face. The site just works.

Now MacRumors and MacWorld are the only Mac only sites I visit regularly.

Yes, but how many of those 4,000,000 posts are actually worth reading? These days it seems most posts are useless "me too" or "I'm getting out my credit card" posts. Usually, out of a 10 page thread there are only 3 or 4 intelligent posts. It's getting so bad that I'm starting to skip reading the threads entirely.

I think part of the problem is the insanely high post count required to change status here. People are just posting any crap that comes into their head just to raise their post counts.
That's when we ask members, as part of this community... to help by clicking on this little guy:

Are you serious? You want us to report "me too" posts?

Congratulations MR

great job, and keep it up!!

As for the negative voters, I do not understand you, you are either: Mac haters, Mac rumors haters, or just plain "W**ers", and I understand even less, what on earth you are doing on this site.....:apple:

Kudos to MacRumors! I am new to Mac and I'm happy to have stumbled upon your site. I check the new entries every day and this is where I get all my information.

Are you serious? You want us to report "me too" posts?

Oh yes. We haven't got a chance of finding all of them with out your help...

Ooh, look, bigandy's mentioning the Forum Rules again!

If you actually read them you'll see the whole lot of 'not to do' stuff right up to 'instantly bannable offences':

MacRumors Forum Rules said:
Useless posts. Do not bother making posts with only one or two words (e.g., LOL) or a smilie, or post simply to have the first reply in a thread. Such posts waste everyone's time and will be deleted. Posts saying "I agree", "me too", or the equivalent are also routinely removed.

Reporting Posts
Posts that violate any of the forum rules should be reported to the forum moderators by clicking the Report Post icon (
Report.gif
) on the bottom left of the offending post. If you are unsure whether a post should be reported, report it anyway and a moderator can decide whether any action needs to be taken.

If the post is a duplicate thread, please provide links to any existing threads when reporting the post. After reporting a post, avoid replying to the offending post to state that it breaks the rules or has been reported. This gives more exposure to the post and makes more work for the moderators.

;)

MacRumors is an excellent site and sometimes very addictive. You all have done a wonderful job keeping it organized, free of spam, and very very interesting. Thanks you!

Are you serious? You want us to report "me too" posts?

Absolutely. A Forum such as MacRumors is only as good as its members. The Mods cannot catch every single offense, useless post, duplicate post, etc. so everyone is encouraged to help out as part of the community - it's only right, actually. :)

Read through the Forum rules (something you should have done when you initially signed up on MacRumors anyway) and you'll fid all the rules, etc. explained.
