I think iWatch as a name is interesting.

iPhone has a primary function being a phone.

Presumably one of iWatch's primary functions won't be telling the time, which you expect from a watch.

Calling it iWatch could transform what we think of watches generally. Now when we talk about tablets, we're talking about computing devices. While iWatch could be a brand name, watches could become the generic term for other devices that do something similar to what an iWatch will do.

It might be one day that when people talk about watches they'll say, "Can you remember when all watches did was tell time?"

This might be a reinvention of the watch but also a reinvention of the purpose of a watch. What is really being co-opted is the location and idea of having something on the wrist. Is that enough to take the name watch?

I watch an iCar.

PS: gotta love wine.

Can't wait...

... to not have to see news articles about pics/videos of 5S casings.

You don't HAVE to see any of it, you choose to see it so stop whining.

I'm getting excited about the 5s and hopefully it will come in the graphite/granite color.

The better question would be: who won't be waiting in line? Hardly anyone. We all want to be the first to get our hands on the 5S and the only way to guarantee that is to line up on launch day.
LoL... only suckers wait in line now. Order it for delivery on day one and it will be there.

So no features that even allows them to catch up to the competition, let alone revolutionary new features that we can't live without?
The iPhone started off great, but really Apple has been just sitting around doing nothing to truly innovate and it's beginning to really show. Compare the phone to the Galaxy S4 for example and you will see that the iPhone is missing a lot of features in the following areas: Camera, Security, MultiTaksing and Gestures, just to name a few.
This is a funny, funny post. What is offered that isn't a gimmick that you NEED to have on a phone? Ohhhh you mean like swipe without touching the phone? I guess the stop playing video when you look away thing is cool but tell me.... what do you really feel you need in a phone to make it "revolutionary"?

The words 'revolutionary' and 'innovation' get thrown around too carelessly on these forums

I don't know anyone who primarily uses their iPhone for traditional phone activities.

But I do love the idea of the WRiST

IMO, the biggest problem (by far) is still screen size. For crying out loud, only one or two lines of text are visible when typing in landscape, and those of us with just above average hand size or larger can't use the phone comfortably.
...
Make the phone itself wider (via the screen) and round off the back edges like the 5C and it'll be much, much better.

I agree... except the 5 is already as big or maybe even a bit bigger than anything I'd want to carry in my pocket. And I'm not interested in bigger or baggier pockets! So until someone comes up with a folding or holographic projection display or something so I can get my bigger display, I'm not interested in carrying a smaller iPad mini all day.

Better to squint at an iPhone 5, than not see a vastly more readable display at all because I left it at home/desk/car.

Can we shrink the heading font JUST A LITTLE BIT??

On the 5C, I am really curious to learn the final internals. Aluminum can't really cost that much more than plastic, can it?

Ughh. Sept. 10th can't come fast enough. Let's see some Mac Pro talk already. Where are the Haswell updates. Nobody wants to leak that info huh? Never seen so much coverage for a phone that is basically exactly the same as last year. I get it, there is a gold one.

no longer excited. let's see how's things after lunch.

told myself Ip5 will be my last Ip, hope I'm wrong.:apple:

Sept 10

Because Apple has made the actual announcement of this event
and everyone can therefore take it for granted.

Weeeeee :apple:

Lame 5S?

Looking at the possible 5S specs. Honestly, kinda lame. Unless I can switch TV channels with that sensor, it's a lame update. I know all S series are but they really think those functions, if true, will make the keep or gain market share for the next year?

I'm due for upgrade but if those are the specs, I'm willing to wait for the next generation to see what comes
It will sell well on launch as hardcore fans and upgrade users will flock but for the casual consumers, which are most of them, they'd be willing to wait out...it move to Samsung if they are impatient.

I really don't see any big changes coming to this one. I hope Apple will at least catch up to the rest of the industry in terms of high-end smartphones. A Full HD screen would be great:apple:.

Yes, aside from the 9 mentions of "gold", 8 mentions of "champagne", half a dozen images, and a video, we left all mention of it out.

For someone who I'm guessing is a macrumors writer, your forum posts are incredibly rude, condescending and sarcastic. Shame.

Last fall, we launched a series of roundups to help visitors more easily stay on top of the latest rumors for several of Apple's product lines, condensing months' worth of news and rumors into a single frequently-updated page for each product. For various reasons, those roundups fell out of date.

After taking some time to completely rework both the look and functionality, we are relaunching our Roundups feature today with coverage of the iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C, and iWatch. More roundups are coming soon to expand our coverage of Apple's products as the company heads into to a busy season of iPhone, iPad, Mac, and software updates.

The goal of each roundup is to simply answer the question of "What are you expecting" for any given product. That opinion is certain to change over time as new rumors are revealed, and the roundups will be updated regularly to reflect that.

Our roundup index page includes a full list of our available roundups ordered by most recently updated. Roundups are also accessible directly through the "Roundups" tab in the navigation bar on all MacRumors pages.

Given the fact that I don't need a fingerprint scanner, and the camera on my IP5 works very much as a second ( or third) option when taking pictures, I'm skipping this one and waiting for the 6.

Anyone who is excited about this, must be easily pleased. The same size phone the same resolution screen, a different colour.

So now we've got 802.11ac in the latest AirPort Extremes and Time Capsules, are we expecting to see it in the 5S? I've not seen any mention of it, but I'd be disappointed if not.

Toshiba Launches 128GB Embedded NAND Flash Memory Module

If we're not getting 128GB then I guess we also won't see the pushing down of prices that seem to be widely predicted in line with this (e.g. 128GB same price as last year's 64, 64 same as last year's 32 etc). If the 64GB is going to stay the same price then I'm going to struggle to justify upgrading for a fingerprint scanner

Storage options being 32/64/128 GB is a needed factor to help differentiate the premium from the lower end phone, in my opinion.
I doubt we will see a 16 GB 5C and a 16 GB 5S. Either the 5C base model will carry 8 GB, unlikely, or the base 5S will have 32 GB of built in storage.

Wtf are you on about? I just read an article on this site that said the 5S has a separate processor, just for motion tracking/gestures, the camera will have the same high-end features, such as 120fps slow-motion video recording, I <3 iOS 7 multitasking, & the MOST touted 5S feature... the über secure fingerprint scanner. So.... once again, wtf are you on about?

People should be "Innovative" and use other words ;)

Anything google does = innovation. Android paired with a Pentium Processor could render 1 hour of 4k video in 1 minute. Fact!

and...... INNOVATION!

I have to use a Samsung galaxy 4 at work. I found it awful, laggy, the GUI is terrible. Can anybody explain what so innovative about Samsung? I honestly don't get it...

FYI, my personal phone is an iphone 4s, running IOS 7, and in my opinion is a much nicer experience.
