Tempting... I would like to update my Fusion 3 although I have no use for the other apps... for the same price plus contributing to MR... tempting indeed!

This to me looks like I'd be buying VM and getting a lot of "bonus" spamware.... am I missing something in that line up?

It's exactly how these bundles work.
One worthwhile app, one maybe and a lot of fillers.

Bought two or 3 bundles in the last 2 years and ended up using maybe 4 apps. regularly.

Now I use the bundle info to check out apps you'd normally never would do research on.

I think this is a great value bundle...

I have a recent version of Parallels, but I'd be interested to use VMware Fusion. I have the PS3 version of SW: TFU and it was a great game (shame the sequel was so lacklustre), but I never bought the DLC so I get the mac version with that included, great. Worms was always fun. And I've been thinking of getting PDFpen for a while.

So even if I don't use the other apps (which I still might), it was an easy decision for me, bought with the MR link.

I like these MacUpdate bundles. It's nice to see VMWare Fusion in one, since Parallels Desktop is a frequent inclusion. PDF Pen is also useful.

That said, since both VMWare Fusion and Parallels Desktop will need to be updated for Mountain Lion, it would be nice if these companies would announce their update plans. Parallels tends to release a new paid version every year, while VMWare has usually released a new version every other year. Will it be a paid upgrade to keep it working with Mountain Lion, or will VMWare release a patch for Fusion 4?

Any info on Drive Genius 3? I would buy it for VMware Fusion 4, Drive Genius 3, PDFpen 5 and Worms Special Edition, but like people mentioned before: VirtualBox does a lot of the work. VMware worth it?

As for Drive Genius: Never maintained my Mac in the past 3 years. Still running like a peach. Do I really need this?

I find the suggestions to simply pirate the software telling of the ethics of some people. As if ethics is even a factor in their thinking ever. I don't believe karma is efficient, but if it were, someone would break into his house, steal his computer and review the keylogger they installed to log onto and erase any backups he might have made.

That said, I have bought about half the MacRumors offers made and I simply consider it tithe. I do it to support the cause. I think I have used a couple of the apps for a while, one to solve a specific issue I had, and VM Ware would be my motive for this one, despite the price of entry being reinstating a windows experience to my world because a couple of vendors I need refuse to have either a Java or iOS solution. Trading software suggestions solicited.

I encourage those who are on the fence to simply pull the trigger as it supports an important programmer and publisher community.

I did something similar years ago on a usenet site which I called Buying Frenzy Fad. I selected one vendor for all readers to order from that month. It had surprising uptake and in a small manufacturing environment allowed the vendors to focus on specific products which provided much needed revenue, profits, new customers, and product feedback which lasted for years afterward. Dozens of vendors benefited from that and near as I could tell about 1/3 of the regular visitors and a shocking fraction of lurkers took advantage of the offer or suggestion. BFF is a good idea that could and should be implemented here at Mac Rumors. The targeted vendor is selected by a benevolent dictator from online voting and feedback, after checking with the vendors to make sure they are on board to fulfill.

It was one of the more interesting online things I did.

Anyway, support your small programmers and the site you visit at the same time.

Then get pizza and beer too.

VM is more profesional. On a performance base I am not too sure if VM wins or both are even.

Kind of confused by the “more professional” comment[?] They’re both great products, I wound up with Parallels because we had a promo offer. Not sure if VMWare now supports this mode, but I like the Coherence option in Parallels where Winders© windows share the same desktop space as native OSX (and the system/start/services are on the native OSX toolbar).

Me too. I have no illegal software, music, or videos.

As a software developer and small business owner, I’ve always made a point to pay for software. I also don’t have the option for an app (especially my OS) to go pear shaped because some update zonked my bogus license.

I’ve pretty much trimmed back my illegal music acquisition to nearly none, and in fact, have even gone back and purchase a few things properly as part of iTunes bundles.

On topic: seems like a decent bundle, there’s a couple of other groups offering their “spring bundles” too, none quite as a good as a few from a couple of years ago. There’s a couple of apps I’m looking for to be in the same bundle: 1Password and TextExpander together and I’ll buy ASAP!

I discovered 1password through a bundle. I ended up paying again for the App Store version, with a smile.

I made small calculation for programs that i use on daily base...some on work some at home some at work and home...

Windows 7 Ultimate 300EUR
Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise server edition 3600EUR

Linux Red Hat, CentOS, Fedora 15, Debian, Ubunt not much but lets say between 500EUR-1000EUR

Now HOT programs i wish i can get bundle like this for small bucks.

Autodesk Maya 2010,11,12 only for 2012 price is over 4000EUR if you bundle all version before it will be around 12.000 at list for this program only there is also option to do only upgrades but that will reduce price for maybe 3000EUR

Autodesk 3D Max 2010,11,12 same story for this as well around 10.000-12.000EUR

Autodesk Zbrush around 400-500EUR

Photoshop CS4 and CS5 CS4 around 600EUR CS5 around 500-600EUR as well....

Thoes are only more serioes programs that i use on daily base and price when you bundle all prices togather is....close to 30.000EUR in period of 3years time

It means 30.000/36month= 833EUR per month for 3years time you need to pay to cover only this couple of software...

I understand that piracy is bad but some time prices of software are idioticly high and that is reason why people turn around more and more to download ilegaly...

Don't get me wrong most of the software here special for work company will cover but at list half of it i need to cover myself :)

To bad Autodesk dont provide freeky bundle like Macupdate did :)
I would be first one who will buy it :)

Don't really need any of these. Would've jumped on board if i didn't already have VMWare. Maybe next time.

I've always been told that all the IT nerds use VM and it offers more nerdy tech options. I have never used either though just from several articles I have read is my source. If I had to install one I am leaning to parallels.

Don't tell me you all here are buying all software that you use...i can put my money on bet that 99% of population here have some cracked software or ilegal copy of some program that you use on daily base..

Stop trying to make yourself feel less guilty for stealing stuff by telling yourself "everyone is doing it". No, we aren't. You are the minority.

No need for explanation I did bought bundle already, and I understand your point but some people cannot afford to pay full prices for every software that they plan to use so they turn around to alternative (pirate side)...Plus there is no difference if you download movie or TV show and not pay for it or software...piracy is piracy so no need to categories it.

That's your argument? It's ok to steal if you can't afford it?

Thanks for the followup.

Maybe there was some kind of under-the-hood mojo you could do with VMWare that wasn’t present in Parallels at some point. At least in the current versions, both seem to support dozens of settings, and have a number of tweaks for memory, GPU, power management, HDD, ports, network, etc.

I’m in Parallels pretty much daily since I need some Windows tools for development (VS2010, SSMS, EMS Oracle), though everything else I use on the native OSX side (i.e., mail, browser, iTunes, calendar).

Out of curiosity, how old are you and what do you do for a living?

Cannot tell this sorry lets say 30+ and working in server industry that have big mix with broadcasting companies...

I don't trying to feel less guilty at all :)
You didn't hear in any of my comments that i actualy doing anything that is connected with piracy...I also wish that you are right for this minority but if you check latest Megaupload scandal you will see that there is much bigger number in other side....

Just a couple weeks ago Apple announced 25 billion downloads from the App Store. That is what the majority of people are doing, downloading legally from the App Store...

So tell me, why are you defending this practice? Why are you excusing it because "lots of people are doing it"?? If not guilt, what is your motivation?

By your rule, I should be able to walk in to an Apple Store and just take a 27" iMac because they're overpriced. Oh, no, wait I'd get arrested. Just because stealing software is easier and you're less likely to get caught doesn't make it any less of a crime.

What's better, VMware or Parallels?

I'm running Parallels 5 (in order to access my Bootcamp-Vista) and since I upgraded to OSX Lion it isn't working anymore.

In my experience (although I haven't really used the latest versions much), Parallels has more features and some really nice integration, but VMWare Fusion is leaner and faster, so if your goal is just to get in, do what you need to do, and get out, VMWare is probably better. If you need to have Windows running most of the time and you'll switch back and forth a lot, Parallels is probably better. They are pretty similar overall, though.
