Parallels Desktop alone costs $79.99. If it gets unlocked, it's like getting everything else for free.

I really don't care for any of these apps though, except maybe Parallels. I think for me, it's better to go through the developer if I only need just one app.

So if they don't meet their sales goals, you're basically screwed and don't get many of the apps they're claiming to offer? Sorry, I'll pass on BS like that.

They are very clear about what's in the bundle and when. If you want Parallels, then check occasionally to see if it becomes part of the bundle.

this strategy sounds crazy. the unlocking threat seems more likely to encourage individual purchasers to hold off, until enough of us have jumped in on the gamble that all the features will eventually be unlocked.
or is there some genius marketing principle i'm missing here?
happy to buy the bundle; not willing to take part in some weird consumption gamble.

It's not a threat. I'm sure they're aware of the risk. They probably have to have a certain number in order to justify the expense.

This has been done with previous MU and MH bundles before, I really don't remember there being comments like the previous times.

What % of the profit are the developers getting? Not less than the organizers I hope.

That's the developer's prerogative whether or not to participate. I think the guy that runs Pangea said that he got more from MacHeist and their bundles than he did from Apple bundling his program with every Mac.

I don't, I'm a mac user, not a Windows user. And I'd prefer it that way, or I wouldn't had bought this mbp.

Sometimes there's this one app that a person needs, and it's worth the emulation. I keep a few Windows computers around anyway though.

This PT Barnum style of selling a bundle is a real turn-off. If you want to sell a bundle, sell it. I'll be damned if I'm going to take a risk on it being unlocked or not, and buy before they all are unlocked. I suspect lots of people feel the same way.

Frankly, it's a turn-off even if the entire bundle is unlocked. Buying into this marketing scheme is just validating the method these clowns use.

I'm in the same boat. I just obtained my MBP two days ago and in the main bundle one app is a must for me, the other two I would like want are BannerZest and PD3, yet I can't drop $65 for a definite one product (which I can buy at $25) and hope I get the other ones.

This could be like an ebay blitz at the end though :D

Its like with any other bundle before:

Sluggish sales at first, speedy sales towards the end.

I am very confident that the Parallels mark will be reached :)

Parallels is the least interesting one for me in the bundle. Why in blazes would I want to run Windows on inferior Apple hardware?

Hazel and Leap, as well as MenuCalendarclock hold the most interest for me and I liked Sound Studio, but not enough to pay for it's full price over Audacity.

Purchased my bundle yesterday.

Hazel ($22) and Typinator ($30) are almost worth the price alone - love these apps!

MenuCalendarClock is a nifty app that I would never have shelled out $20 for. A nice bonus.

Art Text will be useful down the road in making fliers and Keynote presentations. Not having (or really needing) Photoshop, this app fulfills a nice need. People in my situation will like it a lot.

DVDRemaster is another app I would not have paid for alone ($50), but it is faster and a bit more versatile than Handbrake. This one stays on my hard drive.

Leap is an app I have toyed with for a couple minutes. It has potential to be really useful, but for now will not be heavily used.

Story Mill is the only app I have no use for, but my wife might very well use it to fulfill her English major dreams of writing a novel. So it wasn't a complete waste at all.

The other three apps will be nice additions when (and if) they are unlocked. Sound Studio probably won't get much use, but I would like to get Parallels Desktop and BannerZest (for that web site I've been meaning to create).

Overall, a very nice bundle that has already paid for itself imho.

Reduced target for Sound Studio

For those not watching the bundle, at some point today they've dropped the number of required sales to unlock Sound Studio from 5,000 to 3,800. Which they're now just 10 sales away from reaching.

Update: Sound Studio is unlocked, Banner Zest will be unlocked if they make a further 789 sales from here, to reach a total of 4,600. The target for Parallels has not yet been disclosed.

A price tag greater than $50 really kills the appeal of a bargain bundle, imo.

and none of the apps would be particularly useful for me.
I'm going to pass on this bundle as well.

I bought it last week for Art Text and Story Mill mainly (justifying the cost straight away at $40/$45 each usually), and with Soundstudio now unlocked (usually $80, and which I've always wanted but could never justify buying on its own) I think it's really great value. I've never bought one of these bundles before.

So why does the ad on the MR front page say Parallels and 9 other apps with no mention that Parallels and one other app are still locked?

Isn't that misleading advertising? Seems pretty bogus to me.

I didn't make the ad, but it seems clear all apps are going to be unlocked. They unlocked soundstudio early, and bannerzest is about to be unlocked.

Why?

So I have all the apps I actually want - quite apart from the logic of running Windows on inferior Apple hardware, I also have Parallels / VMware licenses coming out of my ears because we buy them just in case. I'm happy.

Wow, 11 to go before we see what is needed for parallel and there site is having "loading problems" too many refreshes I think.

*** ONLY 1500 TO GO FOR PARALLELS ***
A goal I think is easily reached.

Maybe you could use StoryMill to write a novel about a troll?

BannerZest is unlocked, the Parallels target is 6,100, meaning 1,438 more sales than they currently have.

Awesome idea. "The Troll Who Had A Clue" in the non-fiction category... I'll get right on it.

On a related note, I have been playing around with Storymill and it could come in very useful for me and not in a storywriting scenario. All in all, I think I got a deal - a better one perhaps than MacHeist.

Maybe consider "The Troll Who Can Take a Joke" — that's even rarer. But you've won my respect either way.

I agree with your thoughts on the current MacHeist bundle. The last one was quite good, with Pixelmator and VectorDesigner, but this one seems to have abandoned full applications in favour of games and little helper utilities.

Actually, I was referring to the Pixelmator one - it wasn't a bad bundle, certainly worth the money for me but I'm already taking more of an active interest / use of the programs from this bundle - I didn't know they were doing another bundle. Having looked at it though I'll completely give it a miss. Devonthink is worth having for some, but others in the bundle... meh.

Edit: way too many bundles in this post. But you probably know what I mean.

A few posters have said "why would i want to run windows on inferior apple hardware?", sorry, but did i miss the sarcasm or did they mean it?

Terrible things, sarcastic Dell-loving trolls.

I mean, why would I not run Windows on hardware which sacrifices any number of things for looks and (achievable through other means) silence?

Parallels is unlocked.

Well... looks like it's time to whip out the wallet now. There's no more excuse for the "wait and see" crowd (myself included, admittedly). Hopefully for the developers, there will be a flood of orders now, and the volume will help compensate for the discounts.

Argh. The amount of bundles sold is going amazingly slow! We won't reach 15.000 sold if this keeps up. Buy people! BUY!

Well I bought the bundle before the first apps were unlocked with the mentality that if people don't buy till stuff is unlocked then nothing is going to get unlocked ;)
and also for my early adoption I got a free app thrown in :D

"Early adopters of the MacUpdate Parallels Bundle are being rewarded. The first 3,500 faithful get a free copy of WhatSize. When MacUpdate
ran WhatSize in the regular 24-hour promo, it ranked in the top 2% insales popularity and positive user comments. We think it's a killer app. Essentially, WhatSize is a powerful tool that makes it really easy to see what files on your Mac are taking up all of your disk space! Then you can remove/move them if you choose. I know my hard drive fills up very fast, and I'm often puzzled what is taking up all its free space.WhatSize is the perfect companion for downloaders on MacUpdate, orpeople who love using iTunes or other utilities to "get more stuff.""
