You can be SO forward-thinking that you have NOTHING ANYONE WANTS OR NEEDS TODAY.

QUIT being such a friggin' blind unthinking fanboi. Internet delivery home speeds will not be anywhere NEAR what it will take to deliver a Blu-ray movie in less than a full day, for at LEAST EIGHT YEARS.

Make that TWELVE YEARS worldwide. And in some parts of the world, NEVER.

And with the governments of the world taking more and more steps to control the internet, your and Steve's futuristic vision of FREE FIRST-RUN BLU-RAY DIGITAL MOVIES through torrent distribution ain't never gonna happen.

NE-VER.

Oh, people may TRY to find a workaround to steal, but this time, they're not gonna pull it off.

Reality. Live with it.

:apple:

Blu-ray, the format most people dont give a damn about. Reality, live with it.

Single point in time

Apple was trading at around $15 before the iPod became ubiquitous.

Now it's at $90 and was much higher before the economic implosion.

Apple is now, first and foremost, and MP3/Cellphone maker/Music Retailer.

You may be right, but you cannot make that conclusion based on the stock market price at a single time point in history. Apple has been up and down in the stock market roller coaster more times then I care to remember.

Almost half of their revenue still comes from computers, peripherals and software and I would argue that the iPhone is actually the start of a new generation of small computers that will put the iPod to rest. So yeah, right now they may be exactly what you said, but in the future they may well be a computer company once more.

Blu-ray, the format most people dont give a damn about. Reality, live with it.

Blu-ray, the format that killed Apple.

That's a promise. How much have you spent on Apple?

I've got $15,000 that's been waiting for two YEARS now. And the Apple store carts to prove it.

And there are hundreds of thousands of pro content creators, both audio and video, just like me.

That's quite a base to be kicking.

Of course, to be in that club you have to have TALENT and a BRAIN.

No wonder you'll never understand the obvious.

I have to admit the whole event was a bit of a let down. Not one of the announcements were special, the 17" aluminum MBP should have been there from the start and 09 software was inevitable. I can't believe they're leaving the mac mini the way it is and it's 2009. The specs on it are terrible and it's long overdue a revamp. I was refreshing the live update page on another website waiting for something exciting to be announced and when it finished I was sorely disappointed.

Ive spent about $400 dollars for my touch at apple, my only purchase from them in a few years.

And to the underlined

There is no way in hell lack of blu ray is going to come anywhere close to killing apple. Hasn't slowed sales down currently either.

That exactly describes me yesterday. Hitting refresh thinking there was going to be the big mini announcement I've been waiting for. I'm really disappointed.

Awesome! What a MORONIC business to choose to leave the high-end computer workstation and pro content-creator market for. Music SALES worldwide are crashing, and will continue to crash. The music INDUSTRY is DYING.

95% of all music today is stolen via torrent download. That might change with tighter government controls, but not for the immediate future.

If Apple's chips are 100% in THAT losing basket, then they aren't 25% on their way to Amigadeathland, they're 90% there.

Why do you base your arguments off a post from someone that clearly has no clue what they are talking about???

Apple still gets the MAJORITY of its money from hardware sales.

That's a considerably different comment that doesn't nearly mean the same thing. Internet speeds are regulated by governments and managed by service providers. I'm sure you're well aware that the US military uses some of the fastest non-commercial Internet connections available, right? It's the sort of connection that actually would be able to download Blu-ray quality movies in a short amount of time.

Do you think that consumers will ever see this at a reasonable price? At the very least, within a decade? I think not.

ALL APPLE'S HIGH END SALES ARE DOWN.

And to YOUR massive $400 purchase which will singlehandedly keep Apple afloat, right backatcha.

The prosecution rests.

:apple:

Is Blu-ray actuall useful on a Mac?

Blu-ray distribution of video has some definite advantages over internet distribution. But is has disadvantages, too, of course, and watching Blu-ray movies on a Mac isn't very compelling.

And while BD-R for data backups is interesting, hard drives are probably the better way to go for most situations. Maybe Blu-ray has a place in data archives (long-term, read-only backups), though I haven't heard any solid info on this--that is, are there discs and burners available that make this practical?

I think this Philnote got more applause then any stevenote I have seen in the recent years.

On the Blu-ray note. Blu-ray is still rather expensive, this is probably why steve doesn't want it right now. SSD is already expensive enough, why would you want your mac to cost more then it already does? If you want it so bad, go to fastmac and get it yourself.

Blu-ray really isn't catching the world by storm anyways, so why work with something that isn't really a huge market?

My purchase was only in response to YOUR question, it had no relevance to the discussion.

All sales down?? Yet marketshare is continuously rising well above industry standards.......

Somthing doesn't jive there.

I respond to you, and you clearly have no clue what you're talking about when it comes to the nirvana of DD.

Why should I discriminate?

Now you are just trolling. You based that post off false information and your mock outrage from it shows you are only interested in ranting and whining.

Bluray isnt the huge market you make it out to be, and flash drives, FLASH DRIVES are quickly going to overtake there capacity.

Bluray is merely a flash in the pan product that is only going to "take off" once DVD's are no longer sold.

I'm actually feeling very satisfied by this Macworld.

17" MBP? Fine, but I have no interest or use for one.
iWork '09 - great, but for practical reasons, I live in Office land.
iLife '09 - great , but I have no time to mess around with these apps.
DRM Free iTunes songs - great, but I always play music off my iPhone or from my Mac anyway. I like the idea that my music isn't artifically restricted, but, for me anyway, iTunes DRM was restricting anything I actually wanted to do.

Normally after the Macworld keynote I'm a ball of envy and materialistic greed for at least half of the products Apple announces.

But today I'm resting easy. :D

For all the fanbois who don't understand the need for Blu-ray DELIVERY

Here. Go here. Spend an hour. It's OK, it won't hurt you. It's on the Apple website. No, really.

I KNOW you've never been there before. It's OK. No, really. I KNOW you'll never be able to afford any of it, nor ever have the talent to DO any of it, but take a little trip into the world of people who spend $20,000 to $25,000 around every five years for Apple products. I guarantee it will be a real eye-opener.

You'll probably learn something, but really, don't be afraid; it won't hurt.

Who knows, maybe you'll discover something about yourself you never knew before.

At least you'll stop spouting masturbatory futuristic dreams of DD and a cheap T1 line in every home on the planet based on the fantasy of free torrent Blu-ray movies downloading in a half-hour or less, and see exactly WHO Apple screws over when they market like this to a market they CLEARLY don't give a damn about.

And a market that has needed Blu-ray authoring and delivery LAST YEAR, THIS YEAR, and will need it for at least the next THREE YEARS, possibly FIVE.

Because Blu-ray will last LONGER than DVD for three reasons:

1. Greater capacity

2. Increasing governmental control of the internet throttling and eventually eliminating torrent downloading slowing down development of high-speed DD for the foreseeable future.

3. Consumer familiarity... most high-end customers (50" Plasma TV, Blu-ray players) aren't familiar with flash technology or development. Those plastic discs will be with us much longer than most people expect.

:apple:

It does not matter if apple feels that blu ray is dead.. because there pro market needs the support to run video businesses. If they do not support blu ray soon, all the people doing HD will have no other choice but to migrate away from apple again.

also.. not even a word about what is going on with the mac pros? wtf?

Otherwise known as the AGLH.

The event was an utter let down. As for all my time I spent keeping track of things leading up to the event, I feel it is wasted time that I will never get back.

I think I may build a system and boot with EFI-X.

Thanks for nothing, Apple.

This made me laugh :)

Do you think that consumers will ever see this at a reasonable price? At the very least, within a decade? I think not.

Oh, you mean like how we'd never get to use GPS or then we'd never get to use ACCURATE GPS? Or how we'd never get our grubby little paws on all that VHF band? Oh wait...

...have faith in the corporate system...it moves mountains if there is gold beneath them.

Well, implied in every one of MY posts is Mac Pro abandonment. It goes with the territory of Apple screwing over its Pro base by continuing to heavily market to them while abandoning them.

That's the only computer I'd be buying for more than $10,000 tricked out.

But Apple missed my own personal deadline. I've waited long enough. I'm going elsewhere. I don't know where yet, but when I do, rest assured I'll be posting everywhere what I platform I found and what I decided on and why.

:apple:

There's a reason that Apple is black; it's DEAD.

How so? Unless I'm not following this discussion correctly or you don't understand your own analogy, it's everyone else who is arguing against people needing this newfangled disc format (just like the IBM guy arguing against people needing these newfangled computers.) It seems xbjllb is, in fact, the only one here who doesn't sound like the guy from IBM.
