again, Apple doesn't attend macworld anymore. 2009 was the last. don't expect any excitement in this expo. without apple, it will be bunch of crappy market place. it would be almost feeling like CES. there will be no new mac or anything this time. just wait for coming summer. Apple will host a special event. I don't care how mac is good. it's only grown market share in US. for world share, it is still under 4% (3%?). it's just pathetic. it's mostly like for american people. if mac is cheaper, it will be nice. but Apple's arrogance will never allow to drop the price. nowadays, Apple business is booming. well, it's lucky. but they forget something that they have to compete with others which offer more reasonable, affordable price. that's Asus or Acer even Dell are better than Apple. so far, I have used to buying new mac almost every two years. but suddenly interesting has been cold. I would like to buy PC laptop than mac. design? it doesn't matter. today there are many decent, nice looking pc laptops I can choose from. I want performance, affordable price point. with $1000, I have so many choices I can get high end laptop which set up every max out. mac os x? I can run mac os x in my pc laptop (hacking). yeah, it's illegal. but there are so many people who already have done. so I don't care.

Um what?

How in the world is anyone supposed to think you know what you're talking about when you can't even make any sense typing out that big wall of gibberish.

If there market share is so pathetic, how is it that they are closing in on Microsoft in terms of cash and have become the most valuable company in Silicon Valley? Market share doesn't mean a damn thing when they are still raking in money hand over fist. Market share also means nothing when you look at momentum, and Apples momentum since 2007 has been pure insanity. Their sales continue to skyrocket. Any of those companies you just named that are supposedly "better off" than Apple would absolutely KILL to be in Apples position. They would kill for a similar product line, high profits, and they would kill even more to have a brand name like Apple. Low volume/high margins has proven to work pretty well for them.

To me, MacWorld Expo was a .MOV file on Apple's site with product announcements. And since they're not stopping with the keynotes and the Apple Media Events, to me, there will be no difference. As long as they keep brining out new products, everything is awesome.

An excellent opportunity for developers (iPad.)

True... the great Jazzaroni sees MacWorld awash in iMacs running the iPad SDK and showing off their latest apps.

For 2011 MacWorld is going to be LIVE in SecondLife with a blow out of a virtual trade show. Think of it as Mac Fanbouys meets Trekkies meets Furrys.

Guide for using SonicPics at Macworld Expo for reporting

Hey folks,

I wanted to point out that we have posted a guide for using SonicPics (iPhone) to do trip reports for Macworld. The article can be found here [ http://sonicpics.com/blog/?p=4 ].

Have a great time out there if you get to go!

Dave

Not wanting to fit the schedule is BS. They still released iPad just a few weeks before the expo. It was a cheap move to pull out of their own party. The expo is an Apple tradition & one that helped kept them going through the rough years.

Apple has taste, but no class.

I hope they do something about the fact you can't pair devices with the iphone unless it is a head set and have your own customised ring tones / sms tones and stuff.

I went to 8-10 Macworld Events over the years, but none in the last 8 years. I stopped going when it became more of an "iPodWorld".

I had interest in going last year as it had been awhile and also heard the focus of vendors shifted back to Mac and to iPhone rather than iPod. But with Apple pulling out it didn't make sense. If I hear good things this year maybe I'll reconsider for next (if it still exists).

But I'm still upset that Apple left MacWorld. Even if they didn't see it as a marketing win anymore with the Apple Stores in existence and even if they felt pressure to release something great every MacWorld they at least could have continued to show up at the event that celebrates every thing Apple and cut down their size and decline the keynote invitation.

I am cautiously optimistic about this years MW. Initially I was skeptical a MW w/o Apple would be worthwhile, but eventually made a 180º and now think MW might be better w/o Apple. Why? Because Apple won't be setting the agenda now. It will just be Mac fans talking Macs. And smaller vendors that usually get overcast by larger, but boring, companies, will get better noticed.

I've never been to a SF MW, but I did go to a few Boston and NY MWs. What happens is that all the excitement and anticipation is bundled in the Jobs Keynote. If the Keynote is a hit (good products) MW is bubbling. But if only some lame speed bumps were announced it killed the show's espirt de corps.

Expectations are obviously low b/c no one knows what to expect. We'll see if Mac fans can have fun w/o the reassurance daddy is still in the room and has not left them alone.

MacBook Pro 2.16, 12" Powerbook G4 1.5, TiBook 867, iMac G3 600, G4 Cube 450, 2 Powermac B&W G3 450 & 350, iBook 366, Beige G3 350, Powerbook G3 233
-> John Sculley would give you a midrange tower <-

Yeah, you're mired in the past, alright, with that equipment list of yours. And Leawood (Apple's only store in Kansas) isn't exactly next door to Wichita.

In case you hadn't noticed, those rough years are over. The party's moved to Apple's stores and Apple's own events.

Now why would they do such a thing? . . . Oh yeah, TO MAKE A LOT MORE MONEY!!! TO REACH A LOT MORE PEOPLE!!! TO DISTRIBUTE MUCH MORE PRODUCT!!! TO OFFER MUCH BETTER CUSTOMER SUPPORT!!! TO REACH MANY MORE NEW CUSTOMERS THAN A STUPID TRADE SHOW EVER COULD!!!

In case you hadn't noticed, trade shows are SOOOOOO '80s. It's a new SECOND decade in a new millenium! Time to move on, pal.

Apple is "too good" for MacWorld. Their arrogance is getting sickening.

No, MW is an unnecessary expense for Apple. It's stupid to take Apple's pulling out of MW personally. It was a business move made because, well, Apple is a business.

This isn't Uncle Steve not coming to your graduation or wedding. It's a company evaluating a whether spending money to go to a convention is efficient marketing. Based on how quickly word of the iPad got out a couple weeks ago I'd say Apple made the correct decision. MW costs Apple many tens of millions of dollars. Having a press event at the Yerba Buena center costs them a couple million.

This....

Just don't get the anger from some - it was a business decision - nothing more

A Release on 2/9 would be perfect

I would still be within my 14-day return window.

Come on Uncle Stevie. You screwed me over by holding out on MBP updates in favor of the MaxiPad announcements. Please make it up to me. :D

What is with all these commenters talking about new Apple products?

Apple isn't going to be at MacWorld!

This means NO new Apple product release at MacWorld!

Apple's decision to not be at MacWorld doesn't restrict them from updating their website.

Apple is "too good" for MacWorld. Their arrogance is getting sickening.

Wait a minute, I thought Apple was arrogant when they attended MacWorld because they had a trade show all to themselves, which conflicted with CES.

I wish you people would just make up your mind.

lets make that +3 :)
i won't buy my first mac...because this will be my third :) !!!

+4. I'm going to forgo an iPad this time around for a 13" MBP.

What's the point of Macworld without Apple?

I guess there isn't one if you think Apple is the only worthwhile exhibitor and all those developers that help to elevate the Mac count for jack, and the Mac community itself is worthless as well.

Apple is "too good" for MacWorld. Their arrogance is getting sickening.

Their explanation for their decision was sound. If you cannot comprehend that all I can say is I am sorry for your situation. But if your motive is simply to slander, then I understand completely your feigned disgust.

Macworld should tell where Apple to go

Apples sheer arrogance is yet but another example of their complete dismissal of the very people that have made Apple so popular, its fans.

It's time for change, time for Macfanboys to stop praying to their demigod Steve Jobs. The Macworld exhibition needs to name its event to PCworld or Googleworld exhibition, for I feel Google will be the company that gives Apple a run for its money.

Think different, don't think Apple

Dismissal of their fans?

Who are these people?

"The very people that have made Apple popular" are the consumers that buy their products.

And getting great things like the iPod Touch, iPhone, App Store, and a regular stream of other great products hardly feels like a dismissal.
