Sorry, and I am sure this question has been asked before, but how long does it take for the Keynote to be uploaded on the web for us to watch? Does it usually happen in a few hours or does it take a few days?

For the last notebook event (10/14), it got over at 11ish, and the video was up by 2-2:30ish. So I would say a couple of hours. No more than 5. Then again, this one is longer, so it will take more time to edit and stuff...

I'm hoping for iWork (agiven), iMac updates since my next machine might be one and any iPod update. I love my shuffle but if they do something nice for that then it'll be replaced in a heartbeat :D

Not anymore

Just checked, it now says iWork '08. Possibly it was a typo, or they felt like they needed to fix it 20 minutes before they release it.

so with previous releases iwork/life they have let customers who bought within the previous 30/60 days pick up the new copy for free or reduced price. will this count this time around as well? i bought a macbook on cyber monday, will i get a free upgrade?!

if not free, I would think you could get it for very cheap. like $10 (to cover cost of the materials if you will). I've seen lots off companies do that. At least for what you actually bought. If it came on the computer they could say it was free so no go.

i would certainly stop by your local store and ask. have your receipt in your back pocket just in case they need it.

The Apple online store is closed right now.

Maybe they are not open for business as a big price cut is coming on [...]

it's hard to know. they always shut down right before anything. could be new models, could just be new prices. it's easier that way than having a ton of returns when folks see they could have gotten something slightly better. or a ton of price adjustment demands.

it's so common now that folks don't get pissed that they have to wait a few hours to buy something.

But the retail stores are open..

Damn it. I just bought iWork only recently. Too bad Apple does not offer any upgrade versions. But who knows, perhaps iWork 09 isn't even worth it.

how recent. it was within the last two weeks and they announce a new version, especially one that will hit stores this week, politely go to the store with the software and the receipt and explain the situation to a manager and ask if there is anyway you can return the old one, even if you have to pay some kind of open box fee and get the new one. I won't be surprised if the manager says yes, and don't worry about any fees.

Generally in retail, if someone comes in with a reasonable request and is polite and nice about asking (rather than demanding rudely) the management will do what they can to help you out.

and this is not an unreasonable request. had you known a new copy was coming out you would have waited, perhaps just downloaded the 30 day trial off the web site. And since it's not that expensive a program and it's theirs, it might not be that much loss they would 'eat' by giving you the exchange. very little perhaps compared to potentially losing a customer.

so see what is announced and give it a go.

This is what happens every time. If what they were doing was unusual I would think that a price cut was a possibility. But as this is what they always do, it doesn't indicate that at all.

.. and you have 14 days to return anything you bought today before the keynote. If you ordered an iMac right now and they get updated, Apple would either have to cancel your order, or try to contact you about the updated version. Much easier just to delay web orders for a few hours and save a lot of headaches.

I hope there are some significant improvements to Numbers in iWork '09.

Agreed. Pages and Keynote probably need a little tweaking under the hood but overall they are fine.

It's Numbers that is the black hole. I can do tons more in Excel so I am stuck using that. And some of what I have done won't even import correctly. They aren't macros. I know they don't work. they are just complex formulas. I worked with an Excel expert to set up my shop's scheduling on a multisheet Excel workbook where I could put the weeks hours on the first page and it would fill in the rest of the pages with who was working each day using a series of if/then tests etc. the whole thing would calculate lunch periods, hours worked for the day and week etc. then I could go to the daily pages and fill in who was working where each hour, break times and so on.

can't even come close in Numbers. Even just copying/linking cells from sheet to sheet can be a pain

and i promise to all of you, that after this is over, there will be quite a few people complaining about how "bad" it was and how "disappointed" they were with the whole thing. :p
