As far as the placement of the security cord - I think the person that mentioned it looks like it is corded, hit the nail on the head. If you place the security cord on the top - it looks just like it is a corded mouse.

Not to mention it would defeat the whole purpose of having it out on display for people to try out. I would imagine it would be quite difficult to try and swipe with that nub that attaches the wire in the way. And it would be on top of the touch sensors. Look at the teardown pics and you'll see that where they've placed the security cord is on the part of the mouse that doesn't have the touch sensors under the surface.

I saw one today. they have it thethered to a security wire.

I was impressed with the scrolling. Side swipe is tough though; them mouse kept moving. Overall very responsive.

What I wasn't at all impressed with was the feel of the mouse. It's far, far too flat. I was getting carpel tunnel just using it for 5 mins. In that respect, the old Mighty/Apple Mouse is far easier on the hand.

It's real, real flat. There's almost nothing to hold in the palm of your hand. It was so disconcerting I don't think I'll be picking one up. Or if I do, I'll have to retrain my hand somehow.

From pics it looks to be about as flat as the keyboard? Hard to imagine quite what that would be like for prolonged use.

Tried it out today at my local store when i got my Macbook air fixed. The scrolling is cool but its not at all comfortable for mouse use (way too flat). Maybe if they made it trackable in air like the logitech MX air... might be an interesting mouse then.

Because the stores have the new iMacs, they have the new Magic Mouse, too.

I think the new scroll mechanism is awesome. I am so sick of having to clean out my mighty mouse roller ball thingy.

The only complaint I have about the Magic Mouse is that its edges, where your hand will rest, are sharp. I am not sure how comfortable it will be for extended use.

I went to a local Apple store today to check out these new iMacs and the mouse is somewhat impressive for what it does but I still like the typical scroll wheel on other mouses better. When doing all the gestures, my fingers rubbed too much and felt awkward. Maybe after a while I would get use to it though.

I checked one out today and my first impressions are it was a little funky to do the 2 finger swipe and was a little to small to be sliding your finger on. But after a few minutes it got much easier and I think if you use one for a few days it might get to be a really quick and easy mouse.

I tried it today in the Bullring, Birmingham.

It's uncomfortable. Two finger swipe for back-forward is impossible as the mouse wants to move around so much (and didn't even work in Safari). It's got sharp edges, and it pinches your skin each time you click.

I won't be getting one.

On the upside, the 27" iMac was as impressive as I was expecting, and fingers crossed, we can get the i5 version for work :)

After using the new mouse I have to admit that apple now makes a great mouse. Really like it and its scroll feature is very sweet with no moving parts. Its a huge improvement over hocky puck mouse, mighty mouse and any other mouse apple has made the past 15 years. Good Job Apple!

For those that have tried it, how is the Bluetooth lag? I'm tempted to get one of these to replace my horrid Mighty Mouse, and the one offputting feature would be if they haven't fixed the laggy movement. I want a bluetooth mouse that is almost as responsive as a wired mouse, which shouldn't be hard considering bluetooth has well enough bandwidth and speed.

Wow, just got back from the Apple store and I tried one, I like it, unfortunately they didn't have any in stock or I would have bought one.

I currently use a mighty mouse and am in that small group that absolutely loves it. The magic mouse actually feels more comfortable in that I don't have to "claw" my finger over the nub anymore and can just rest it on the flat portion of the mouse. The scrolling felt very smooth, and the 2 finger swipes for forward and backwards are very easy to do, much less of a pain than the mighty's squeeze buttons.

From an ergonomics point of view it fits in the hand just fine, not as nice as my MX of course, but you have to have tradeoffs if you want something thin you can slip into your sleeve. I use my mighty mouse for hours at a time and have no issues ergonomically, and the magic mouse feels much better ergonomically, especially as they got rid of the squeeze buttons which is really where the stress to my hand and wrist were on the mighty.

Overall I'm going to buy it as soon as it comes out!!

That's odd, I have absolutely zero, zilch lag on my mighty mouse, but then again Im using it in Windows 7 so I'm not sure if that makes a difference.

Got them down here at southcenter mall Apple in WA.

I'm actually on the 27in in store right now.
This magic mouse sure is nice. :D

Still none at the Apple Store in Tulsa, OK. I'm not expecting them until after the software update. I was expecting that on Friday though.

You probably have some other devices on 2.4GHz which are causing interference. I've never had any lag on any of my Bluetooth mice (Apple & Kensington) or Apple Keyboard. (I've used the BT Mighty Mouse w/o issue since they first shipped.)

Just wireless keyboard and wireless network. It doesn't feel as though there's interference, it more feels as though it's slightly "heavy" in movement if you know what I mean? Unlike the movement of a wired MM.

It sounds like slow tracking speed (which you probably know can be adjusted in System Preferences). I thought you meant it was not keeping up with your movements - jerky, laggy, lack of responsiveness.

Nope, I've got the tracking speed at the very max, which is fast enough for me just about. The problem is what I'd describe perhaps better than 'lag' as 'low refresh rate' of onscreen cursor, which makes it appear laggy. Horrid things these bluetooth mice.

There's something amiss with your system. The only other remedy I can think of, at the moment, is to delete and re-pair both the keyboard and mouse.

They should both work as smooth as silk. I notice no difference between cursor movements with the trackpad and my Mighty Mouse (and, it's not even on a trackpad - I use a cotton towel draped over couch's armrest). Just as another data point: years ago, I used to have a small Kensington running through a D-Link adapter - same performance, and that was on a PB G4. In any case, Bluetooth doesn't perform as you've experienced.

They have the new mouses on display with the new iMacs at the apple store here in Tampa, but they do not sell them separately yet.

Yeah I went to my local store and they had them on display on the new iMacs but don't carry them in stock alone. Played with it and it does take some time to get used to it since it's so flat.

When I went to the store yesterday to test one out there was zero lag time that I could tell. I tried to do almost everything I could think of with the mouse and mess with settings to see if there were any major initial flaws I could find but there weren't any for me.

Major Downsides:
• No center click (for dashboard or whatever else you might use it for)
• No side buttons (big bummer!)

The inertia scroll works REALLY well.

And no, they were not out on the shelves as of yesterday morning in WI.
Anyone have an update for today?

Nothing in Dallas, Texas either. The infamous get me goin in the morning when they say call later after the shipment arrives, and then when I call later that person is always clueless, and it takes them 5 minutes to tell me "Nope. No idea when we'll get 'em."

Based off another thread - I don't think we're going to see these mice until the update is pushed out. Currently this mouse is only compatible with the new iMacs.
