I decided to order an orange Executive case and try it out since I've liked the Field case so much. It came yesterday (eBay). I didn't think I could like a case any more than the Field, but I actually do with the Executive, because of its slimmer profile and smooth back. The Field case is pretty slim itself. Also, the Executive doesn't have any "flashback" problem that I've noticed, but the orange Field case did (a very minor issue to me since I rarely use the camera).

What color is this?

I believe that's the Foliage color.

That looks way too dark to be foliage.

There were a couple of pictures where my first thought was OD Green. But then the first picture and the last few look like Foliage, so I thought it was just my eye playing tricks on me. :D

*sigh* Posting this again (pardon me if my white balance is off)

With flash: (Black, Foliage, OD Green, Flat Dark Earth, left to right)

Without flash:

And in case you're wondering whether I know my iPhone cases...I do.

^^^ And your OD photos looks exactly like the color in the photos in question above. That case is too dark to be foliage, it is definitely OD Green.

----------

No need to repost that comparison or try to educate me on those colors - I have known them all intimately for years.

And I stated that I thought it MIGHT be OD Green. But if you look at the pictures further down in that original post (that was quoted), the color looks much more like the Foliage.

The only one that definitely looks OD Green to me is the 2nd one (showing the mute switch and volume side).

The only reason I reposted those photos is that you seem to chime in every time I say something about the Foliage color (my white balance is off, I'm wrong about the OD Green/Foliage). I'm just trying to help here and you seem to take offense when someone other than you tries to help someone with a color.

I would assume, by your post, that you're either military or ex-military. If so, thank you for your service. But those of us that aren't can still tell colors apart (even "military" colors like these).

I don't take any offense, but if something is wrong, I will say so.

The only reason foliage is an issue is because it is a color a lot of people get wrong. That and FDE.

Ok. We're good then...lol. Sorry, I didn't mean to sound like a prick before. I was just trying to help that guy out. Carry on, everyone. :D

Sorry for the delay in response... And since there was a bit of a "dust up" regarding the color of my particular case... I took some new photos of the case along with my AR15 which just happens to be covered in matching Magpul furniture.

The case is indeed Foliage Green, as is the Magpul furniture on the AR. And no, I'm not mistaking it for OD, or FDE, or any other color ;)

Hopefully this puts this issue to bed. Enjoy!

Thanks for clearing that up.

You put a bolt release in the trigger guard? How well does that work?

I put my field case on last night and have to say firmer is almost perfect. The only issue I have is the cutout for the camera is off center and is causing flash back but people already mentioned that. Feel in the hand is great and it fits perfect around the volume buttons. It has just the right amount of lay on the table design.

Hey R.J.S,

I don't mean to go off topic... (but since you asked ;))... it's the Magpul B.A.D. (Battery Assist Device) Lever and it works amazingly well.

It doesn't get in the way of pressing the trigger (even with gloves on) and allows you to operate the bolt catch (both to lock the bolt back AND to release the bolt) without ever changing your firing grip (assuming you're right handed).

With a firing grip, you simply extend your trigger finger and push the BAD Lever up while pulling the charging handle back with your support hand to lock the bolt back. And when the bolt is already locked back, you simply press the lever down with your trigger finger to release the bolt.

There are many in-depth reviews out there and you should check it out. It has made what used to be a pain-in-the-a** into something much more ergonomic and efficient (thus quicker).

ETA: Here's a quick Youtube vid of the BAD Lever in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G02WjXBmoss

Beautiful piece, man, and all the Magpul bits look fantastic.

I'd never even heard of the BAD Lever...that's a pretty slick contraption. Thanks for all the info. Oh, and r.j.s. and I weren't really arguing...lol...we were just having a discussion. :D

I ordered an orange Field Case last Wednesday and it said it was in stock online. I just got my shipping notice today, almost a week later. Has anyone else experienced a long lag between order and shipping?

one order from botach came in 3 days from cali to ny. the other order for the same thing took 7 days.

usps is pretty inconsistent it seems as botach shipped both same day.

Use black Sharpie on all cases.

Received the Field Foliage and Exec Field FDE colors Friday. Already had the Exec Field in Black.

All fit perfectly, esp around the volume. Found that the Field case, with the 1mm thicker lip than the Exec, makes the case the same thickness as the Incipio NGP case. If that helps anyone. Length and width is the same too, on all three: Exec, Field and NGP.

Flash. In a semi dark room (imagine a bathroom, lights off, with door open shoulder width), even the Field Foliage and Exec FDE will show flash fogging of the photo. Field worse than Exec., despite the bigger opening. Sharpie solved this completely however, as good as a naked iPhone.

In normal circumstances, I said the Black Exec had no flash issue. Still true. But in the above situation (pretty dark room), I could see flash fogging on the Black Exec. Black Sharpie (2 coats on the inside ring) solved the problem; photos looked as clear as with a naked iPhone.

I would do the black sharpie trick on all of these cases.

I still say that these are the best cases, and my favorite. Offer as much protection as my NGP. My favorite is still the black Exec Field.

Can someone detail the sharpie trick?

what would you like to hear?

Get a 'Sharpie' fine point permanent Marker from CVS, Staples, etc. The pen is about 1/2" thick, but the felt marker necks down to a fine point.

With the Sharpie's broad side fill in the slanted, beveled part of the open ring around the flash opening from the back case side. Also do it from the inside case side. It helps to lay the case over the edge of a table for stability. Go around a few times, and let it dry ( 10 seconds) and repeat.

The Sharpie gives a almost flat black to the ring. Careful not to slip and coat the outside back of your case. It is permanent. Some alcohol (vodka) will take it off while still wet, but with some difficulty.

I'll get a photo in a minute. The photos make it look very noticeable, but without the flash from my camera and in normal use, one cannot really see it. I angled these photos so that you could see it ;)

Need Rugged Iphone Case

My phone is always in my left rear pocket. I have wrecked all phones except the military phone. Like when I am under a car on the garage floor.Need to have Iphone. Don't need to see screen. I will open case to use.
I believe the phone should be my servant and not the inverse.

Any help/suggestions here? (Be nice!)

Only thing I can suggest is a super protective case such as Otterbox Defender or those like it. There are many heavy duty cases on the market. Still can not be sure you will not break the phone, the iphone is a bit more fragile than a normal flip phone.

On a black iPhone you would not even be able to see the sharpie ink anyway. A lot of cases on the market now with a clear or colored back have this area blackened in by the manufacturer.

I certainly would move the phone (or anything) from your rear pocket if you are laying on a garage floor. There are several front/back covered phones out there with clips to secure them...maybe front chest pocket in your overalls? or Front pants pocket instead?

My orange Field case showed up on Saturday. This case is quite amazing as many others have stated. Great feel, not too bulky, very light weight, great protection, etc. I really like that while it provides a lay on the table design, that the sides don't come over onto the screen. It is a perfect fit in every way. No wiggle at all. Buttons all work easily.

I had been using a white Candyshell which I really liked aside from the eraser effect on the rubber ring. The Candyshell added a fair amount of weight and bulk which I didn't care for but it was a fair trade-off for the protection it provided.

I can't say enough good things about the Field case though now. My only "wish" was that the camera cut-out was bigger like the Candyshell to allow for easier wiping clean of the lens. But I can deal with it! I just went ahead and ordered a Field Executive today to try one of those next to swap between with the orange Field.

A big thank you to all the positive reviews of this case on here. Otherwise, I would have never come across what is quite possibly the perfect case.

Where did you order from? The orange case you received is just the field case right, the tad bit bulkier one that is out with the ribbing across the back like the pmags that magpul makes?

I ordered direct from Magpul. Took a long time even though it was in stock. Yes, my orange one is the regular field case with the ribs across the back.

I got mine and purchased 2 black exec. field cases in hope that at least one of the cases would fit well, and I was right. As some have already reported, the edge around the volume rocker may stick out a bit and you can clearly see a gap between the phone and case. Case 1 displayed this issue significantly where as case 2 was close enough to a snug fit. There is only a very slight gap near volume controls so i am keeping case 2.

Even before fitting the cases, I held the 2 cases up and compared them side by side and i could see that the mould of case 1 was not quite right and already sticking out.

I recommend purchasing these instore so you can inspect yourself or ask the online retailer to do an inspection themselves and ship a case where the sides are not sticking outwards. The sides should be fall straight down or curve inwards. Curving inwards should be a non issue as after installing the phone, the case would conform to the shape of the phone.

Finally i agree with all the positive ratings of this case. The biggest positive in my opinion is its slim form factor. It has good grip & ever so slight lay on the table design but its enough.

I haven't tested out camera, headphone jack or docking sections yet.

Just make sure to get a case where the sides don't stick out and most customers should be happy :)

Does anyone have any tips on how to fix the mould if they have a case where the sides do stick out?
