I'm curious if Steam will consider it a new title so they will not have to give you the MacOS version if you own the Win version.
Not Valve’s decision. On the contrary Steam has always Steam play. There are only two Mac games I know of with separate purchases.

I expect it to be free on Steam for those that own the Win version. When it's released on the 17th, I'll get the answer to my question.

For those who bought it on Gog, please indicate if you get the MacOS version for free if you own the Win version.

Very curious to see how this performs. To my knowledge, this is the first AAA game to use TBDR. That is a lot of work.

My impression is that all games that have "native Metal API support" use TBDR on Apple Silicon, especially new ports that only have Apple Silicon support. Only games that have non-native Intel ports use Immediate mode rendering (IMR). It would be very strange and a waste of time to make a Apple Silicon only port but use IMR for traditional GPUs. @leman may have a better answer?

TBDR is an aspect of a hardware implementation. It's not that you are free to use it or not, it's how the hardware works. The graphical API mostly abstract these things away. With Metal you can opt in to optimize your rendering by making use of the hardware's particularities.

I hope so, because I won't be buying/playing it, if I'm required to rebuy the game. We'll find out tomorrow, looking forward to seeing it performs.

Hmmmm.

uh woooow, it doesn't say is this is "regular" ray tracing, or if this is for path tracing. For upscaling to 1080p at 60fps on a M3/M4 Max I'd expect it to be using path tracing.

The App Store storage requirement blows (compared to the other stores). I wonder why you can't just choose a voiceover language to download.

Here's a screen grab for anyone wanting instant gratification
Looks like you'll need a Max class machine to run this game beyond 1080p. Not surprising tbh, my own experiences with a M4 Pro and M4 Max are clear that the GPU performance for a non-max SoC just don't provide the processing power needed for many AAA games.

None of the auto settings turns RT on, it appears the performance hit is quite high.

I'm not sure where my Mac Studio M2 Max (64 GB RAM) falls on this chart ?

REDstreams — Update 2.3 Overview

At 43:40 CDPR talks about the Mac port of Cyberpunk Ultimate Edition. They confirm that they worked closely with Apple to get the best performance optimization and visuals on Apple Silicon. That's another AAA game developer collaborating with Apple since the introduction of Apple Silicon. They also confirm that you get the Mac port for free everywhere if you already own it and it has cross-save so you can use your old save files on Mac.

"If you've been playing on ANY console or ANY PC or on Switch you can use that save and continue on Mac now" with 2.3 update.

Better that than the mandatory RT in AC Shadows. Also the performance numbers are before Tahoe and MFI so I think the numbers will double with frame interpolation.

The chart is somewhat incomplete but I think it mentions the minimum HW for each category. Recommended requires M3 Pro but doesn't mention M4 Pro so you need at least M3 Pro but M1 Max is on par with M4 Pro in games so that and your M2 Max could handle the recommended settings and with Tahoe and frame interpolation later old Macs can do better.

"Cyberpunk’s graphics settings show where the Mac could have advantages as a gaming platform, though. Like PCs, Apple Silicon Macs are available at all kinds of price and performance levels, from the low-end fanless MacBook Air to the top-tier M3 Ultra Mac Studio. But unlike PCs, where developers can’t account for all of the possible CPU, GPU, motherboard, storage, and RAM configurations, Windows versions, and graphics driver updates, the Mac comes in a more finite number of configurations with more tightly controlled software. This makes it easier for developers to target and tune for specific hardware."

"Case in point, Cyberpunk’s “For this Mac” preset. Unlike the PC game’s Steam Deck preset, this isn’t a fixed collection of specific settings made with one particular hardware configuration in mind. Rather, it’s a dynamic preset that chooses different settings based on which specific Mac hardware you’re running the game on. An M1 Mac using this preset would get different settings than an M4 Max Mac using the same preset, and players can choose it knowing that they ought to get reasonably smooth and consistent performance with the best settings that their individual Mac can reasonably handle."

On my RX 7800XT, performance is quite high with no RT as well.
Gave the benchmark a try this morning on my PC, got 84fps average at 4k with DLSS set to Auto. RT Ultra Preset. When I get home I'll dl the macOS version on my M1 Max just to see how it fares.
