As long as it inconveniences someone else it's okay, right? ...
It's not about inconvenience. It's about public safety. Getting into the mall on a weekend (or anytime) is not a right, and I'll bet discrimination based on age does not apply to minors. No kid's life is going to be adversely affected because they can't hang at the mall on a Saturday night.

Being black isn't something that causes a disturbance, the cause of any disturbance would be racist notions of other people. Likewise, being a teenager in itself does not cause a problem.
But a teenager is still under a parents rule. They are not on their own.

i would bet its a few that are causing the problem, not the majority

regardless this is age discrimination whether you like it or not and should not be tolerated.

you solve the problem by getting rid of the trouble makers not anyone who is under 18
How can you discriminate someone who is not legal age?

life affected by kids at a mall?? give me a break honestly.

all you do is just beef up the security at the malls in question

im honelstly shocked at how some of you advocate for this:confused:

What does this have to do with my point?

Well the majority can ruin it for the few.

So what you're saying is that you'd take away freedoms of one group because of the actions of a sub-group, this would retain the freedoms for the majority? Someone wiser than me once said that a people who take such a course are neither deserving of liberty nor likely to retain it.

Legal age? What do you mean by that? There is no legal age to go shopping. The fact that they can't drink alchohol or partake in other activities is neither here nor there, there is no such thing as an age where you are legally considered human (no pedantics mention foetuses, thanks).

With that, I'm off to bed.

There is age where you are considered adult though. And that counts for a lot. Adults set the rules kids live by them end of story.

legal for what? last i checked you have "some" legal rights when under 18. driving a car, working, getting married, etc

when you are 18, you still dont have the "legal" right to gamble in vegas, drink alchol, rent a car, etc

fact is in the us, we have a gradual rights acquirement as one gets older

but if a 5 year old can buy candy at a store, how can you set a legal age of 18 to shop at a mall where it is just that, shopping?? needs to be consistent

You can't get married under 18 without parental consent. You can drive but you have restrictions. While you have some rights it is not a lot.

A 5 year old will most likely have a parent present. I don't think any kindergardeners go to the store alone to buy candy.

Yeah, it's 18, and according to the story these legal adults have to wear scarlet letters in order to be allowed to shop for jeans.

Discriminating against under 18's may be legal but I still maintain it's morally objectionable and not a good lesson for our children. "Someone else who looks like you messed up, so now you nor anyone who looks like you is allowed." Profiling and discrimination, straight up. Just because it's legal doesn't make it right.

As for a legal adult being forced to wear a wrist band, I can say that I would take my dollars somewhere else. Have fun shopping in your consumer paradise where the next rights abrogated can be your own.

As far as I know, the only laws preventing age discrimination protect people over the age of 40.

i bet that it first came up to do with job retention. it would be interesting to see a court's point of view

when i was 16, i did not have any limitations on driving.

yea a 5year old will most likely have a parent present, but what about the 10 year old who goes to buy a comic book? you missed my point im afraid meaning there doesnt have to be an adult present to partake in buying goods

If you go to an 18 and over club everyone 21 and over wears a wrist band to buy drinks, is that wrong?

lol thats because the bartender does not check id's....it's the bouncer that does the checking

i mean clubs sell a lot of alcohol and it is illegal to drink when under 21 simple as that so they need a way to quick check who is legal to consume

Driving restrictions started because underage kids were killing themselves with all their friends in the car. A 10 year old getting a comic book is not hanging out with 50 of his friends. He is buying and leaving.

it happens at college football games here for tailgating. just implemented 2 years or so ago that in order to drink, you must have a wristband on. failing to do so you can get in trouble regardless if you are 21 or not

that really irks me

They you, my friend, were very lucky. PA puts a curfew on all drivers under 18.

oh there are restrictions now, such as for first year, you can not have any passengers in car and curfews

i dont agree with it

so tell me why you should deny that 10year old from buying a comic book if he is not the problem and instead, get the security and just toss out the trouble makers??

Why, the point is so underage kids are not drinking.

Did I say deny him? Where did I say that!!!!!!!

What is wrong with driving restrictions? You want stupid kids killing themselves behind the wheel?

yea its just like a bar, but in a bar and you dont have a wrist band and you were to get caught, you wouldnt get in trouble if you had an id showing you were 21

at the game, i could still get in trouble if i got caught even after i showed my id

thats the difference

deny him by not letting him go himself, yes
