Next 50% of people traveling will be arrested because their hair dryer looks like a gun..... and the other 50% will be like :

"It's dumb to bring hair dryer when traveling, you must be a moron to do that!"

and

"Police or criminals might shoot you thinking you're a threat .....to wet hair!

Nobody will be intimidated since they'll realize you're an idiot the moment you remove your dryer to dry your hairs!"

Yep. And people confuse cars with tanks constantly too. /s

The fact is, like it or not, a gun is a gun and carries a certain connotation and causes chain reactions. Things that, even at a glance, replicate a gun will trigger that same reactions. Whether people agree upon whether those reactions should happen or not, people should not question that the reaction will be there, especially in public places. It's as guaranteed as needing oxygen to survive.

Not justifying the guy, but I expect
1) a "professional" to distinguish a real from a fake
2) a metal detector to identify a real gun (in case number 3 is not followed)
3) an Xray to see trought the plastic and see if it is a real one (yes cellphones have to be passed in the xray machine and not in your pocket.)

So IF the officers do the right job, then there should be no alarm!

All in all I think .....a slow news day.
o_O I think you should just withdraw from this thread. Hopefully you are just having a bad day.

My brother-in-law would love this. He also thought it was funny to dress in full full gang regalia to go visit his grandpa in a west Chicago hospital. (and no, he wasn't in a gang- he was just a dork..)

You have the right to remain cholesterol free!! Put down that .....hmmmmm ehmmmm cholesterol firing device!

I believe mustard does not contain cholesterol though. But this sure is funny as heck!:D

If the dryer is molded to look like a gun they should be arrested. But most hair dryers look like hair dryers, not guns, just like most phone cases look like phone cases.

I think your point is still searching for a relevant situation. This one is not it however, & also is not humorous given the real threat airports and passengers are under right now.

Just wait until some guy mistakes his real gun for his iPhone, tries to answer a call, and blows his ear off!

I normally cringe when I see "Darwin Awards" because sometimes they blame the victim, but this is not one of those times.

This looks like an easy excuse for police to shoot you.

Apparently, only if you are black.

Has idiocy become a political issue someone upstream said. You betcha! Cause sploading heads are a sploading, and Obama is a Muslim socialist Kenyan illegal alien lizard person that wants to take ALL of our guns and round everyone else up and put them in FEMA death camps, and that's only a small sliver of the conspiracy theories flooding the right wing fringe element websites and YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Breitbart, Stormfront, Fox News, etc...

Idiocy is what one party has carefully watered and fed to get them into a lather, and they intend on riding them into total power and then take all your guns, round people up, bankrupt the country, etc...

And the divisions are tearing families apart. I had to block my brother on all of the social sites, and even block his phone numbers. I'm apparently 'ready to die' because I think Obama deserves to continue to draw breath.

It's damn shocking the level of vile and offensive things going on around politics. I've never seen it so bad...

But, yeah, this 'gun case' is another in a long line of 'stupid human tricks' designed to inflame an issue.

I did hear a local politician gun nut (what I like to call an ammosexual) talk about how he wants people to be allowed to carry guns in airports, and on planes. Really. And people, not very intelligent people, are backing his siren call... It's like 'common sense' has become 'uncommon', and for some, totally foreign.

In UK they don't carry guns.

Yes they do. They didn't used to a while ago. That changed. Now many actually do carry. I haven't been back in a while, but I've heard people say that most do now because of the violence problem.

It's a damn shame too.

I went on holiday to Cozumel, and was horrified at the number of AK carrying police and military looking people were walking around. It wasn't like that the first time I went there. It's sad...

People have committed "armed" robbery using toy guns. Now try that on an airplane...

Carrying four ounces of hair gel through airport security is illegal. Why would carrying a fake firearm in an airport be legal?
No obviously not at the airport

You have to be a moron to use those.

Police or criminals might shoot you thinking you're a threat.

Nobody will be intimidated since they'll realize you're an idiot the moment you remove your phone to answer a call or post a selfie to social media.

Bulky.

Bastard went full retard.

But it's to 'prove a point', which isn't the one the owner is seeking so desperately to prove...

Sooo it's not okay to have a phone case that's shaped like a gun but it's okay to have a gun shaped like a phone?
What if I eat my kid nibbles his pop tart into a gun? Would they arrest him?
Insane. It's not the gun that is evil folks. Very rarely does a gun go off by itself and kill anyone. It's 99.999% the other way around.

That sounds like the NRA position that 'Guns don't kill people'.

Well, yes they do. The bullet didn't come out of a drinking straw.

I like the Lynyrd Skynyrd reasoning. 'Hand guns are made for killing. Ain't good for nothing else'.

But that's a topic for a different website.

A gun phone case is really stupid, and evil. I'll bet the first cops that shoot someone dumb enough to have one will be sued, when the people who should actually be sued are the people putting out this crap. Stupid human tricks...

An old saying; If you look like a duck, sound like a duck, walk like a duck, you better hope it is not duck hunting season. This fellow may have learned this lesson.

Sad commentary on society really. Doesn't matter if it's real or not. The fact that people panic if someone is carrying a gun is pathetic. People used to carry guns all the time, everywhere. How have we sunk so low? Time to move to Texas.

Speaking of white-only products:

Actually, seeing that reminds me about a middle-aged businessman who was dragged from his car, and made to lay in the road spread-eagled, all at gunpoint, because he was wearing such a phone holster, and it was mistaken for a concealed weapon. (In the UK)

Your ignorance of the very tough job officers of the law have, is really the sad commentary on society.

Sad indeed. I mean your attitude.

Are you saying i cannot hife a gun in a hairdryer??

Are you saying that if they cannot spot a plastic cover from the real thing they will be able to discover my modified hairdryer?

Again IF checks are done correctly there should be no alarm!

Given what happens lately I know that checks are NOT done correctly and that is the problem, NOT a plastic cover.

What if the person carrying the case is inside the airport but has not yet gone through the security gates (where the checks you mentioned would happen)? I believe the recent Belgium airport attacks took place outside of the gates.

However, even if someone were to get through the security gates with this kind of case, are you saying a police officer who spots this should ignore it and assume all safety checks should have already occurred properly?

I think you're being incredibly myopic (or trolling) by taking your stance.

The point is that he was in UK, a place were civilians aren't allowed to have guns.

In that airport, there was only two options; a disguised police (who would be concealing the gun) or a criminal. And we all know which kind like to go to airports in Europe to commit attacks.

That is completely besides the point here. You can't walk around an airport with what looks like a firearm handle sticking out of your pocket. It'll cause panic in this climate and especially in countries where handguns are banned. It's just stupidity.
