One HUGE advantage Apple has over damn near any company, their users PAY!!! And devs are going to jump all over VisionOS.

Also, when concerning gaming on VR. I think it's already at or close to its peak until technology takes a huge leap. Even if the Vision Pro was geared toward gaming, it wouldn't be much of a difference in experience compared to the Meta Quest or PSVR2. So it's actually a good thing Apple is focusing more of the AR and non-gaming aspect of VR.

Hey Zuck, this ain’t no Jiu Jitsu match you forced a do-over after loss and claimed 1st AND 2nd place thereafater. This XR race is OVER from the start, and there is no going back.

Well technically he’s not wrong, Apple is just doing “it“ so much better than anyone else, there isn’t anything technologically revolutionary other than basically really harmonizing the experience. It is indeed smooth.

I think a lot of people are missing the point of the “Pro” moniker used in this and really is the solution to the “there are no killer apps” grip; this is not meant really for the average consumer, these are open-public developer kits: if you build it they will come and oh boy will they come.

Pure speculation but I would wager that we will see a more friendlier priced with some striped features $1500-$2000, possibly “SE” base model with “viewing” only for watching entertainment rather than full ”pass through” vision

Playing devils advocate here: It's understandable that Meta is emphasizing affordability with their upcoming headset, considering their aim to cater to the mass market. While Zuckerberg's response to Apple's Vision Pro may downplay its features, it's important to recognize that competition drives innovation. Different companies have different target audiences, and Meta's focus on affordability aligns with their goal of making their products accessible to a wider range of people.

Thoughts?

this isn't a iPhone though, its a 3500 bucks device that has 2 hours of battery life that's seeking to solve problems that don't exist.
This is exactly on point. The iPhone made communication--and just about everything--easier and more accessible. The Watch improved fitness and health tracking and can be thanked for saving the lives of those in perilous situations, etc etc etc. AirPods are great headphones that work seamlessly with every other  thing one owns. And I think society is, generally speaking, better off because of these inventions, especially the iPhone.

I will gladly eat my words in 10 years, but I personally don't want to live in a world, nor can I imagine a world, where these things are strapped to everyone's heads. But who the hell knows.

It is funny that within 10 seconds of the price for the headset being announced Apples stop dipped. Hahahaha $3500.00
You can thumbs down my post, but it doesn’t change the fact apples stock dipped and didn’t recover its loss since the price announcement of the headset.

What I find VERY amusing is days after Apples WWDC, Meta, and I'm sure nearly ALL of the competing companies probably had all hands on deck meetings! The writing's on the wall, folks! And you better believe they KNOW it!!! Meanwhile over at Samsung:

I don't like Zuckerberg, but he understands at the core why I dislike this entire concept. "Each demo they showed was a person ALONE on a couch." or something similar.

The device is inherently solipsistic and is bordering on nihilistic/narcissistic.

I do not want a future where we're all sitting alone on a couch or at the lake (who the **** drives to a lake to hang out alone in a headset?) moving our hands around like idiots in some quasi-brain in a vat scenario that is the hilarious real world criticism of Renee Descartes "I think, therefore I exist".

The device is literally just a self-reinforcing solipsism where the user completely becomes the product. You could learn intrinsic behavioral attitudes from this headset and the privacy implications alone were not only not addressed by Apple, they have not been addressed by anyone. Eye movement can reveal health issues, behavioral styles, opinions, emotions, etc.

Then, to top it all off, all I saw were people hanging out with people but not hanging out with people. Like a Vaudevillian parody of the COVID19 draconian stay in place rules becoming normal human behavior. You just put on your jerk off headset and chat with your Tinder date? Instead of actually going out and hanging out in the flesh, like a normal social human being.

Also, the device's core functionality is redundant in that all of its core functions are done much easier, much more convenient, and far less expensive.

Messaging and FaceTime: iPhone. Or Mac. Or Windows PC with a webcam.

Desktop productivity: Solved this with the monitor, which is now lightweight, thin, and cheap. Also, mouse and keyboard are far better Input devices. iPad has touch, another far more intuitive Input mechanism.

Security: FaceID already uses eye scan technology, and retina scan is not necessary, but is a possible evolution.

Media consumption: This is ridiculous that this headset will somehow be better than a large widescreen 4kTV with HDR. Or my iPad. Or my iPhone.

Gaming: I will say this a thousand times....Handheld controllers will always be superior. If you're a PC gamer, ok, keyboard can be useful. But an Xbox or PS5 controller is a far better input device.

So, why am I spending $3499 for a cumbersome helmet when I could buy a 76" 4k HDR TV, 42" Monitor, a mouse and keyboard for $60, a PS5/Xbox for $499, and two extra controllers and still have enough for a MacBook Air M2?
You make it sound like you can have to choose one or the other. That's ridiculous. I can choose to sit on the couch alone for a couple of hours and enjoy some alone time, but at another point in time during the day meet with friends. It's not mutually exclusive. You are also making sweeping judgements without having spent 10 seconds with the device.

To paraphrase another CEO of a giant company about another Apple product:

"Right now, we're selling millions and millions and millions VR devices a year. Apple is selling zero. Next year they'll have the most expensive AR/VR headset by far ever in the marketplace. There's no chance that the Apple Vision is going to get any significant market share. No chance."
This is going to age so well for you.

It is what youtube reviewers who played with the device and journalist opinion articles from press are saying..

It is depressing sitting alone on a sofa.

They didn't demo a single game that can use the hand motion.

Wow you’re one to talk Zucc. I’m not getting a Vision Pro, way too much to spend on a first gen product. But it makes Quest VR look like a kids toy.

Didn’t Apple show an ad with a dad and his kid playing catch while wearing the Visions Pro? How is that ”isolating” and sitting on a couch?

Let’s be honest. After Apple’s presentation, I was thinking how screwed Meta and Zuckerberg is. Who really wants to make an avatar to go to a virtual office to sit next to your coworker who decided to be a cow today? Even before Apple’s presentation, Metaverse came off as just Second Life with VR headset, stuck with Facebook in the 2000s.

It comes down to VR vs AR. I am banking on AR. Yes, the Visions Pro is expensive and a bit big still. Give it 5 to 10 years, the tech will advance and the price will come down… notice the “pro” naming? There will be a non-pro version 100%.
