After 4 iterations of the Apple Watch, you would think that they'd figure out that they need to produce more silver stainless steel models for launch to prevent this. But every year, it's this one model that is backed up for weeks while everything else starts rolling into stores.

I'd agree, they literally sold out of pre-orders on SS models in minutes. My only guess at this point is they simply run out of time to produce product in time for the planned/committed launch.

what's the difference between checking store availability on apple.com and using istocknow?

it's the same data

No difference. iStockNow pulls their data from Apple. But iStockNow is faster to refresh and see detailed inventory at once by clicking on the markers for each store on the map.

I see, so basically not worth using if you're just looking for 1 particular model, way too much information on that website

Please bear in mind that the Apple website and iStock does not account for walk-in availability. You still have to check your store to be sure.

You can refine your search down to one specific model (size, material, color, LTE/wifi, and band type) so that the store marker turns green only if that specific criteria is met. For instance, I want a 44mm silver stainless steel, but I had stores around the country turning green because they had the Hermes versions available. So I narrowed it down to only the SS with the white sport band or milanese band. Now those stores no longer show available stock as well.

But then again, it probably is faster to just keep one page open on the Apple website and just refresh that. What I wish iStockNow did was show watch inventory for something other than the Apple store. I know they can do that for other products, but right now, it only seems to show the Apple Store for the watch.

Yeah, I gave up on that :) I've walked into both Apple Stores within 30 minutes of me every coulpe of days looking for the SS watch and both have said each time that they haven't received any since launch. One had a Gold 44mm and a Space Black 44mm when I walked in, but neither have gotten any silver.

Oh man, I wanted the gold but they only have the silver here...LOL

For what it's worth (which is a lot of cash but at least in my case not much else) the Hermes versions (for that much, do I have to say "Editions"?) are somewhat available, if you want to throw down $1300-1500 for a piece of tech with a fairly short obsolescence timeline.

The 44mm silver stainless steel isn't even available as an option on AT&T's site anymore.
It's better to sell people the models they can actually get sometime this century. People aren't gonna wait for 2 months for an SS. They're gonna either buy what's in stock or find it somewhere else.

I saw that. I checked yesterday and ATT has an insane delivery date of late Feb 2019. Either a site error or they seriously can't get a hold of one.

I called the local Apple store, nothing there and he then checked the 12 stores in the area for any 44mm SS (Silver, Black, Gold) Simply nothing in stock, they haven't seen 44mm SS stock in over a 1 week 1/2.

His advice, place the order via Apple.com, as of now it's a Nov 2-9 delivery date, at least you have your name, watch order in the queue. If a SS comes in the store before then - maybe a week, or 25 days from now - the online order can still be cancelled.

Yep - just snagged a SBSS for delivery by next Friday. Looks like they are gone now. Nice to save the 5%.
The Apple Watch I ordered this morning from Target will be delivered Tuesday. However my 14 day return window for my current watch closes tomorrow. I spoke with a manager at the Apple Store where I purchased my current watch and they are going to make an exception to their return policy and allow me to return it next week after my other watch arrives. Way to go Apple!

I ordered the Silver SS 44 from ATT at 3:01am with a delivery date of October 1-8 ... its the 5th now with no movement ... I ordered my wife a Gold SS 40 at 3:30am and hers delivered 2 weeks ago ... GRRRRR

The Apple "Premier Partner" I thought I preordered through on 15 Sept notified me just today that they aren't able to order a 44mm SS for me unless I have it shipped to my home, therefore, they never ordered it. I also can't pay with the special financing plan I have through them by going that route. Had I known then I would have just placed an order with Apple, and I would likely have my watch in the next week or two, not the next month.

I'll keep watching iStockNow in case something becomes available before the first week of November, but the nearest Apple Store to me (hour and a half drive, one way) hasn't had a single 44mm SS model (SS, GSS, or SBSS) available for pick-up since the Series 4 launched.

I've been following Best Buy, Target, Apple, etc for stock and had zero luck with finding an in stock 44mm Black SS model.

Something weird happened though with Best Buy. I was able to add it to my cart, and then checkout with it. Order status keeps saying "In progress - We'll let you know when it ships".

I'm kinda confused though, does this mean I'll be getting it as soon as they get a restock? Or will it ship in Nov like the Apple Store would? I'm not sure why they'd let me checkout with the watch if I had to wait until Nov, especially considering you can't even add one to your cart right now (Says "Sold Out")

Anyone had any experience with Best Buy on this?

I think that means once they receive a restock, they will ship your order immediately. If you need verification on that, you could call their corporate facility and their customer service can maybe explain further or check the status of the order for you.

Has anyone been able to pick one up that's open box from Bestbuy? Online it says that there's one available at a store near me, but when I click to pick it up at the store and click add to cart it says "This item is currently unavailable for online purchase. The item was not added to your cart." Any ideas?

When I see Open Box items online at my nearby Best Buy, I simply just drive there and I've been lucky with the item in stock. Very possible someone just returned it and picked up a different model, and there's nothing wrong with the watch at all.

Makes sense, fingers crossed :D

The weird thing is that I've been checking the item page on bestbuy.com and it rotates between the following statuses:
-"Sold Out"
-"Getting more soon"
-"Not available for delivery"
-Add to cart, but then stops me and says this item is not available for delivery

Not sure what's up with their status system lol

I couldnt find a SBSS 44 within 5 hours of me I have been on istock all day everyday and on apple.com and calling the Apple stores to check inventory. I decided to let it go and order one through ATT estimated delivery is the beginning of November. I hope it comes before but I was driving myself nuts looking for this watch. Checking Best Buy, Target walmart, and sames ect. I ordered a new Macbook though to hold me over lol. P.S I did find my wifes 40mm SS Gold at my local store via Istock.

I ran into the same thing and started a chat session with support to order and reserve the open box GSS 44mm at a nearby Best Buy.

Funny how the conversation has started to switch over to other retailers. I have begun checking Best Buy and Target more.
