Massive Stainless Steel Unavailability

Looking around near me, it seems that the 40mm SS versions are fairly readily available, though not all colors and band styles. 44mm, on the other hand, has been very scarce.
I got very lucky, last week, and found a SS SB 44mm with sport band at my apple store by watching istocknow.com I cancelled my online order and picked that up.
You have to setup iStockNow email alerts. They will email you as soon as the product you've selected becomes available. This is how I scored my SS 44mm last weekend and was the same way I scored a Nintendo Switch back during that craze. If you're only checking the iStockNow page a couple of times a day you're going to miss it.
I got the iStockNow notification at 2:38p and was able to place my order for pickup by 2:54p, when I checked after placing my order at 3:00p they were already showing out of stock again. Just goes to show how popular these things are and how quickly they can be snatched up.

I may call my local Apple Store later today and see if they will do it... if so, I'm doing it tomorrow morning. It will give me a solid 2 weeks to either try to find some stock or give me 2 extra weeks with my current S4 while I wait for the one I want.
Or, you could buy a new one every two weeks and keep returning them!! Jeez man pick one and stick with it.

I’m signed up for the email notifications. There just hasn’t been any watches in my area for them to send one.
There haven’t been any in our solar system.
I may just order one from Apple, with a delivery date around November 1st. But that feels like defeat!
Is there a way to check other stores? I’m only seeing the option to search for apple stores.
In the UK, it looks like the SS drought is over. SS and SSSB in both sizes are showing as available to reserve for pick up today from Apple Stores in the North West of England (Liverpool / Trafford Centre / Arndale) - this is the first day that I have seen any SS or SSBB available to reserve. Also, I walked into the Trafford Centre store yesterday & left with a 40mm SSSB

Its not so much the 40mm that are in short supply. Its the 44mm that are hard to get
Yeah, it sort of does. I kind of feel if I order through Apple now - then wait 3 1/2, 4 weeks, these SS MAY get a boost in restock within a week, maybe 2 - while my order sits and processes.
The iStock page just refreshed. NO 44mm SS...again, few more 40mm SS today however.
For those in the PA, NJ area - I do see quite a few Nike 44mm for the very first time though. Especially Quaker Bridge Mall in New Jersey, Center City Philadelphia - Also Apple Store in the Christiana Mall in Delaware (Also 0% Sales Tax!) .

Yep - just snagged a SBSS for delivery by next Friday. Looks like they are gone now. Nice to save the 5%.
I thought for certain that a new wave of SBSS stock would arrive with the Nike+ today at Apple stores but I just went in person to a flagship store and can assure you that I was wrong. I’m very surprised. It’s been more than 10 days since their stock has been “replenished.”
Apple is still very backlogged on the SS models for preorders. I expect some of the stock intended for retail may be routed to address that first.
Well, I'm glad I got my hands on the 40mm Silver SS. It's just too like the SS model I had from Gen 0. Going to return and delete istocknow.com from my history and bookmarks until next year. Love my SB
Every single year for the AW we get a SS backlog that lasts usually around 2 months. Aggravating to say the least.
After 4 iterations of the Apple Watch, you would think that they'd figure out that they need to produce more silver stainless steel models for launch to prevent this. But every year, it's this one model that is backed up for weeks while everything else starts rolling into stores.
