I was told at my local store that the app they use to check in store inventory uses the same data that the online store uses.

Were you actually able to buy one in a store that showed no inventory online? Has anyone? All I’ve read is advice that you might get lucky, but I have read any actual accounts of that happening.

I can truly tell you the in-store stock that the Apple Store employees check on their iPads does not reflect the online availability on the Apple Store Online...and iStock!

I confirmed that with an employee when I walked-in to the store hoping to get the watch I want. We checked his iPad/iPhone POS device which shows available stock that were not showing up on the Apple Online Store we checked with one of the iMac demo units.

This is reason enough to not only check online but in-store.

All three of my Apple stores are showing stainless models in stock for both configurations with the black stainless and regular, just call to verify, call the Apple store of your choice, ‘request manager’ and they will verify that they do have the stock, however; they will _not_ verify how many units they actually have.

Which stores are those

Good luck calling here in Canada. So many times they just let the phone ring until it hangs up automatically. This usually is the case during a launch window.

Score! Really need to clean my sport loop.

And so it repeats again today - basically no Gold SS 44mm in stock for pickup anywhere in the country as of 8:15 AM Eastern. I may drop by my local store when they open just to test the thesis that "'no stock for pickup' doesn't mean 'no stock in store'" - but I'm not hopeful.

Edit to add: not just "the country" but rather "the world". Except Belfast, who fittingly got the proverbial "luck of the Irish".

I'm going to do the same for SBSS 44mm this morning.

My closest store only had one model update in stock this morning - they have to have more for walk-in.

Best Buy has been having open box SS golds intermittently the last few days.

Hope you had good luck. I did not. I did ask the salesperson whether it was true that nothing showed up online unless the number received exceeded a certain threshold number - he said that was correct but made it sound like the threshold number was pretty low ("but we usually get more than two or three, so it should show up online when we get a shipment").

No luck on 44mm. They did have a 40mm SBSS though

ReallY? A 44 SS MLoop just popped up in Halifax NS...... Don't think I can justify a flight up there but that's the first one of those I've seen anywhere in NA since the second day of launch.

Yeah - and pretty much every other SS 44 I've seen pop uo today is bundled with a band (I guess Hermes?) that knocks the price up by 40%. If that's basically what's hitting the states today, it bodes poorly for what I want (I'll take a Milanese or a sport loop.)

Picked up my reserved 44 Gold SS with Milanese Loop. Decided to check another store on the way home and believe it or not they had one Space Black with sports band that was not showing online. Exchanged it for that instead. Now suddenly I’m getting lucky.

Stock is still low out there folks but try visiting an Apple Store near you with low expectations and you never know.

Good luck!

No sooner than I give up and order a non-SS, Bestbuy ships my SS. Two weeks late. Now have one of each on the way. Decisions.

I had ordered an ATT 40 MM SS but there was no ship date - I waffled so I didn't order it until the 16th from BB. After hearing folks that ordered at launch weren't hearing anything from them I cancelled my order. ATT has nothing for 40mm in SS except gold. I have the original Apple Watch SS band that I paid a lot of money for and then paid a jeweler to make it smaller for me (my wrists are 120) so I want to stick with Silver SS as long as possible. I finally decided to order again from BB - no ETA so I have no idea when I will get it. At least I had my iPhone XS Max waiting for me at UPS when I returned from vacation. I agree with folks seems it's impossible to find SS - particularly the 40mm.

Cheers,
B

Got a space black reserved finally, but still wanting to try out a gold with sport band. The pursuit continues.
I'm doing that opposite - space black is the one that I originally wanted. I am waiting to find one in store. Meanwhile, I reserved a gold stainless with sport band two days ago and picked it up today to see how I like it. Well, I like it.

Every store I have been into--in Dallas and Fort Worth on Saturday 9/22 (while looking for silver stainless 44 with sport band) has had the 44 stainless gold with sport band and in some cases milanese in stock. It's like nobody around here wants them, OR they shipped more of them anticipating demand.

That also held true of my Fort Worth store BOTH this past Monday 9/24 AND Tuesday 9/25 when I popped in and got my silver stainless 44 and SB 44 stainless, respectively. Gold is easy.......

Whew! I feel so lucky now that I was able to just buy mine on the launch day, but even then they didn't have the stainless steel so I ended up with the gold -- and I am happy with the color, so it turned out for the best. I ordered a SS 40mm with Milanese loop for my mom that same day (Sept 21) and got a shipping date in late October.

Heh, I had a change of heart... I'm gonna go silver aluminium after all instead of SBSS, I think that's overall best for me. Cheaper, and I didn't have any issues with durability with my first watch which has held up just fine for well over 3 years. So there'll be an extra stainless unit available in the general pool at some point (mine might not even be manufactured yet, I dunno...)

I just placed my order for a 44mm SBSS Sports Band with delivery 29 Oct - 5 Nov. I currently have a Series 0 AW Silver SS that I got on launch day. Finally decided to upgrade when they decided that I couldn’t upload new software.

Certainly in the UK, the “purchase for collection in-store” and “in-store walk-in” stock are different. My friend grabbed me one of 2 available SS 42mm with WSB from the Bath store last Saturday, when the Apple Store app said they had none...
