What did you put in under mobile number? When I try it, it keeps saying that I need to enter a valid mobile number.

As i said in an earlier post, if it doesn’t recognise your number use the following made up number in the below format starting 07, all they really need is your IMEI number

07*** *** ***

Good luck everyone, hope you have the same outcome as me!

Great find OP. Assuming it works on AT&T phones, it actually makes me wonder if this is how the unofficial unlockers have been doing things: You can just imagine them taking $175 dollars off someone and then firing a request to Vodafone UK to get them done for free...

Phil,

That's exactly what i was thinking. I wasn't going to post it until i knew if an ATT customer was able to unlock via this route. I'm watching this thread like a hawk!

It wouldn't surprise me at all if that is what they are doing. Anyway I'm hoping we hear soon that it does work on AT&T phones, it would make things much easier for me.

Just to let you know Vodafone uk employees check forums for anyone who need help with Vodafone so be careful

Just received a third reply 24hrs after the original request:

"We are unable to provide an unlocking code as this is not a Vodafone UK device"

Well, it was worth a try anyway.

Do you think its a coincidence that this seems to have stopped working, and the people who were charging $170 ish have stopped doing it?

I'm hoping the fact I put my request in before yours and haven't got a third email as you did... I may still be in for a chance! No news is good news... right? As you say it's worth a try and no harm done.

He, he....could very well be the answer to this mystery. I still think Apple is going to make someone pay big time!!

I did enter a legit customer name and phone number but obviously not a legit Vodafone device. Hope you get a positive outcome.

Disha is on the ball. Might try again and hope that someone lazy picks up the request :)

I just tried it for the hell of it. Not expecting it to work since I am on US AT&T. I'll report back in the event that my request slips through the cracks and gets done lol.

wow looks like this worked for me! I just got an email with this message

now do I really have to perform a software restore for this to kick in? and how the heck do I test it, its not like I can borrow someone's T-mobile sim and cut it up in to a micro sim lol.

:D

This was my first thought...how does this help us?

Looks like you hit the same roadblock!

Well I just did it to boost the resale value.... I'm sure a factory unlocked iphone that you dont need to jailbreak can fetch more money.... But I would like to test it before I go putting that in an ad. The only thing I could think of is to find someone who is already using an iphone 4 on a different carrier and their sim card is already cut.

Too bad, mine didn't work:

"Not a Vodafone Device - We are unfortunately not able to unlock this device as it is not a Vodafone UK device.

I need a sim to test the unlock! I submitted 4 times to hedge my bets and got a couple of rejections but one good "youre iphone is unlocked" email!

I actually did a restore this morning, not realizing I needed a different sim to make the unlock go through!

looks like I will have to find a tmobile store

There appears to be a few troll posts in this thread.

As confirmed by a Vodafone UK Help Forum Moderator the conditions for unlocking an iPhone through Vodafone are;

1. The unlock request must come from the person to who the phone was originally supplied with a contract, or the orginal buyer if the phone was purchased as a Vodafone PAYG (receipt required).

2. The IMIE of the handset must have been logged on the Vodafone UK system and been active on Vodafone for at least 28 days.

How will that help? I dont think they are going to let you cut up one of their sim cards are they?
