Use SAM to deactivate. In Cydia install the Bingner repo and then install SAM.

What about those people who don't jailbreak or don't know how to? If vodafone does unlock it, can you just plug it into iTunes and just do a fresh restore?

That's the way I read the instructions. Since you aren't jailbroken at worst you waste 30-40 minutes restoring.

Your yourself said T-Mo said it can be 24-72 hours

This is true, the phone either says 'invalid sim' or has 1 bar of service or sometimes says 'no service'

under phone in settings, it doesnt detect a phone number... maybe the sim just isnt activated yet. Guess i will just let it sit for a while. unless anyone has any other ideas?

Approach a stranger in the street, ask if he/she uses T-Mobile and ask if you can cut their sim card up ;)

at the risk of stating the obvious, have you rebooted your phone after inserting the T-Mo sim card? and also have you tried putting it in and out of airplane mode?

yes I have tried everything..

reboot, hard reboot, airplane mode, toggling 3g and cell data. I JB and deactivated using sam prefs, then restored etc.

the phone is sitting saying No service, which I hope means the phone is unlocked and the sim is just waiting for tmobile activation.

Did you disable 3G? I know with ultrasn0w you're supposed to because the different 3G bands confuse the phone, perhaps the same thing applies to official unlocks.

Also, does the carrier menu appear?

yes i disabled 3g... no havent seen a carrier menu.

No dice for me either, getting the same thing as diamondschwin just one bar with no service.

**** I hate to see the bad news... Oh well hopefully it will work out eventually. I'm still waiting on the e-mail, we'll see.

Also, is it possible that this would work overseas but not in the US? I'm hopefully going to use this when I'm in London in the fall... We'll see.

I just received email #2:

"We have submitted request for NUC (Number Unlocking Code) & reference number for the same is xxxxxx. The turn around time for the same is 48 hours."

Sounds like this isn't working, but I don't see why it wouldn't. I'm still hopeful!

I'm planning on doing the upgrade to 4.3.3 this weekend, buy I'll wait until I get the confirmation email that the process is complete.

I'm an optimist. This will work!

I just got the email too for both of my requests on one iPhone (Sent request twice), and one on a 3GS (submitted request once).

I just noticed that in my email it says insert foreign sim card then activate via iTunes. I activated with the AT&T sim inside so maybe one of you guys want to try it the other way around and it might work

Dear Customer,

Reference number: 2*****
Mobile number:NA
IMEI numbers: 3*************

The iPhone has now been unlocked – Please replace the SIM (use a SIM which has never been used with this iPhone) and connect to iTunes or perform a software restore via iTunes.

So has anyone here actually managed to get their iPhone fully unlocked? It looks like some people got emails saying so but that their non-UK Vodaphone iPhones didn't actually unlock.

I know on another forums, someone had done a way of unlocking their AT&T iphone via O2. free. you would go on the site, and a chat rep would message you, you would sweet talk your way into unlocking the iphone without giving the o2 number etc. and if you were lucky your AT&T iphone would get unlocked. it dont work anymore....

Wait, why did you reactivate with your AT&T sim card when it says specifically to use a sim card that's never been used before (and preferably a t-mobile one)?
