Still waiting for email 2. I used a random UK number and iPhone 4 as my model.

Well here's to hoping we both have something to celebrate soon :)

I sent my request in at 10:55am EST on Friday. When did you send yours? I'd imagine you'll here something soon since I did today?

Another AT&T user here and I'm giving it a shot. I certainly don't have any expectation that this will work but I guess I have nothing to lose. I did get the "Thank you for your mil regarding your Network Unlocking Code..." email so we'll see what happens. Will be monitoring this closely.

Yeah that is an automated email that fires off every time you send them one (I got a second one when I responded to the CSR when he asked for my make/model).

I am hoping that the reason why he emailed is because everything else was somehow in order but they needed this info.

I'm trying not to let myself get disappointed but it's hard lol

Please make sure you post back either way. I see that you're in the US and on AT&T as well so we're both in the same boat. If mine gets rejected it's not a big deal since I'm jailbroken and unlocked via ultrasn0w anyway (only installed ultrasn0w to fix the one signal strength bar issue though) but it would be nice if I could have a factory unlock and just update my bb from now on. I guess a factory unlock would make my phone more valuable on ebay too vs. a software unlock via ultrasn0w.

In my experience hardware unlocked iPhones fetch about $250-$400 more than locked ones. My hope is to get this unlock, sell the phone for a "buy it now" of $800 (which should sell quick since others are above that currently) and go get my white beauty :D

Wow! By hardware unlock phones I assume you mean factory unlocked or carrier unlocked, right? My phone is obviously software unlocked so if getting it unlocked by vodafone will make it that much more valuable than merely unlocking it via ultrasn0w, I really hope this somehow miraculously works;).

That's half the reason I want to do this. I own multiple iPhones and I do buying/repair/reselling and if this works for my main one, I will be trying this method on the rest that I currently own in order to up the resale price.

$800 isnt realistic.... You can get brand new factory unlocked phones for less in Canada

Bought a Gevey SIM advertised as one of the new ones that unlocks the new iOs 4.3 etc and all basebands and does not have to be cut.

I'm pretty sure its not one of the new ones and its actually one of the old ones and it definitely needs to be cut.

be very careful when buying these SIMS that you ask for one of the new ones. Check that it doesn't need to be cut and will work with the new iOs and bband. Maybe ask when the seller bought their stock - these real new ones have only been out for a short while.

Rejected...oh well it was worth a shot. I wonder what ever happened with the Dev Team unlock, it went from regular updates about 2 months ago and possibly being able to 'permanently' unlock the phone to complete silence..i guess in this case no news is bad news.

That is just the second email, I think that just forwards your info to someone in Voda to check wether the phone is theirs. The third one is the one that says Sorry no Voda phone

Thats odd that you guys are waiting so long. I had the first email and then the unlock confirmation email 2 days later. When I get home today I'll post screen shots.

Can someone clarify things for me.

I bought the iPhone 4 on launch day at an apple store, it was a generic off the shelf model, and an Orange UK sim was put in, is mine now locked? i thought the ones from the apple stores were all unlocked no matter what contract/PAYG/Sim free because they were all the same

In the US, all iPhones are locked and cannot be officially unlocked. I think in England all iPhones from the Apple store are unlocked, so you should be fine, you can always check with another sim to see if yours works.

Negative. Any phone any where can be unlocked. It is all a matter of whether the carrier wants to allow it.

As far as UK phones, and others that come unlocked, I think the minute that you put an official SIM in and activate it is then locked to that carrier. Not positive though.

I am hopeful that I haven't heard back since my last question from them!

If you bought this in the apple store in the UK and it was unsubsidied, ie cost you £510 16gb or £612 32gb then it is 100% unlocked,

Unsubsidised phones from Apple in the UK (and presumably from other countries) are unlocked for life, and don't get locked when you put a carrier sim in them

This is from Apple's site

Why does the price of iPhone from the Apple Online Store differ from its price from a carrier?
Carriers typically sell the iPhone with a contract that subsidizes the initial purchase price of the phone. By purchasing your iPhone without a contract, you can use any SIM or micro-SIM card from a compatible carrier, including your current one.

I've got an unsubsidised phone from Apple, and normally have an O2 sim in it. However, I've also used it with a Vodafone and 3 sim with no problem

I know when to take my medicine  I stand corrected!

Now, on to my quest to get officially unlocked. Let's say that it works. If for some reason Apple/AT&T/Voda figures out it was an error, could they re-lock it? Would they even figure out it was an error? I am sure that if Voda accidentally does unlock my phone that neither them nor Apple would ever even look at me as a mistake. But could AT&T somehow find out? Especially if I sold my phone to someone else?
