only took 2 screws to get it off if i remember but yea it won't fit with it on

thats what i did to mine, too the front plate off..

im still having NO response from it at all... the HD spins up but doesnt come up in the Finder/Disk Utility/anything.

very annoying.

does anybody have any ideas?

edit: getting no response at all, its like there isnt enough power going to the caddy.. odd..

my project is a big failure 😡 the caddy doesnt work - im not sure what the problem is. i have contacted the seller he said to run through these tests, if it doesnt work they will send out another one for free. very nice of him.

i actually think that it is my MBP that is causing the problem though - but i have no way to tell...

Thanks for this thread. I used the NewModeUS caddy in my 13". I added a 500gb along with the stock 160gb. I plan to upgrade to SSD soon and I'll swap the HDD into the stock position and SSD into the caddy.

Woah that looks like a clean fit. Question though, do you end up having OEM screws left over when you do the swap?

Yeah I had the screws that held the optical drive in place left over. The caddy doesn't have tabs/holes for those places like the optical drive had. It still feels snug up under the speaker piece and around the edges so I'm not worried.

just make sure that you cant hear the HDD in the optical smashing around, i found that happened with mine.

I have moved it around a bunch today and haven't noticed any noise. I think it's fairly snug.

excellent news, i noticed mine was about 2mm away from the top, i can hear it hit the keyboard when i turn it upside down

Just turned mine over and shaked, looks like I'm good haha. You could try getting some adhesive foam strips to raise the height up a bit and cushion it against the bottom plate. I noticed apple has one about dead center on the logic board.

LOL! its PATA!

the caddy converts the PATA into a SATA connection... but they said they tested it and everything was working.

hey Dofy got the 250gb 7200.4 in the mail yesterday and its nice as hell! boots into my desktop in 30 secs compared to over a minute before! its pretty quiet as well but it definitely seeks louder.

also without getting too far off topic have you ordered Snow Leopard? has it arrived yet? mine is hopefully arriving today.

the ebay seller i bought from has sent off another caddy for me!! how nice is that of them! they have 100% feedback after 4 years so no wonder they are so good. i sure hope that it works *touch wood*.

i havent ordered SL yet, dad will get the $69 family version eventually - is there a date that you have to order it before? there is an apple store near uni - i dont want to go there (they didnt hire me and im dirty at them) but i might have to aye...

**** thats a really good deal! you have a C2D though so you will see some nice benefits, my machine is only 32-bit 🙁, no OpenCL, i really only benefit from GCD.

ahh nice aye, i dont have uni 2day so if i did get it it would be more towards tuesday/wednesday. i wonder if you need to show proof to get the cheaper version.. hmmm
